Күн бұрын

In this video we will be talking about how to have a fulfilling life from the philosophy of Plato. His philosophy is often referenced as Platonic idealism. For Plato, one of the main purposes of learning philosophy is to enable one to live a fulfilled life.
The state of fulfilment or well being was named by the ancient Greek philosophers as eudaimonia. For Plato, eudaimonia is strongly related to virtue. Plato’s main ethical view is that the unjust man's soul, without virtue, is chaotic and at war with itself. Even if we satisfy all our desires and wishes, if we are not in harmony with ourselves and with the community of people around us, we cannot achieve eudaimonia.
To help you better understand what Plato believed defined a fulfilled life and how can we achieve eudaimonia, here are 9 lessons from the philosophy of Plato:
01. Educate yourself
02. Have an active life
03. Avoid anger at all costs
04. Be content with little
05. Live honorably
06. Be in charge of your own happiness
07. Find inspiration in music
08. Find your soulmate
09. Care about the happiness of others
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope these 9 ways from the philosophy of Plato, adds value to your life and helps you in living a fulfilling life.
Plato is one of the most famous philosophers of all time. He represented the philosophy of ancient Greece, belonging to its Classical Period. He was born into an aristocratic and influential family in Athens, where he founded the Academy, the first institution of higher learning in the entire Western world. Along with his mentor Socrates, and his student Aristotle, Plato is one of the most influential individuals in the entire history of humankind. It can even be said that he is one of the pillars of Western civilisation. His philosophy is often referenced as Platonic idealism and his biggest contribution is the Theory of Forms or Doctrine of Ideas, which asserts that the physical world is not the real world. Instead, ultimate reality exists beyond our physical world, in the world of ideas. Plato was not only a prominent figure of philosophy, but also of religion and spirituality; so-called Neo-platonism deeply influenced Christian theology. Plato invented the written dialogue and dialectic form of philosophy. Some of his most famous books are The Republic, The Symposium, The Apology of Socrates, Allegory of the Cave and The Dialogues of Plato, in which the main character is Socrates, who influenced Plato’s philosophy to a great extent. His entire work has survived for more than 2,400 years and has remained very popular the entire time. Like his mentor, Plato was a practical philosopher and there are many life lessons to learn from his philosophy.

I being feeling tired and sad because its being almost 2 months without a job. Almost like a dead body just letting life go. Sure, I do like to improve myself, could be studying or training, but anyway, after all this knowledge and tiredness, I don't find myself satisfied. Spend long amounts of time per day just looking at what I lack and not what I have or can achieve. Gotta get out of this destructive cycle. Thx for the vids! 😎👏

how can I be happy if I did someone wrong, I asked for forgiveness, and told me that I have been forgiven but is also guilt-tripping me every now and then and shades on me a lot, but is still holding on to me? doesn't want to let me go and would tell me that will give up on life without me?

@@mitsie3773 If someone isn't willing to choose the right thing, you have to be willing to choose the difficult thing. You're only responsible for your own feelings. How many feelings do you have in these situations that are genuinely yours? And what feelings are they not taking responsibility for that have been engraved in you to believe are yours but are simply theirs? You have to rid the toxicity in your life and never let loneliness and/or misunderstanding drive you back to toxicity. We can only know someone to the depths that they know themselves. As plato says (not verbatim quote) ~ people are like dirt. They either help us grow and nurture us or stunt our growth We learn wisdom through being a fool. Until the penny drops. Time and focus is the soul of the universe and I hope you're in a better position within yourself and your life. Forgive yourself. Forgiveness isn't for the other person it's for yourself. Forgiving yourself is apart of the journey and the same concept of learning to love yourself. Hero and cowards share the same fear, the difference between the two is their strength and/in response. Sending peace and love ❤️

I couldn't help but notice he didn't once mention family life or having children as necessary elements of a fulfilled life, and yet in modern society we are constantly being told - through advertising, government policies, etc - that having children and a family are the foundation of living a fulfilled life. In fact society deems family/children as being so necessary to fulfillment and success that those who do not pursue this path are seen as misfits and even failures in life. Food for thought.

That's because this was an expression of philosophies not real life examples by Plato. Don't add the concept of children as if it's presence (or lack of) even matters. Your issue is yours that's why it wasn't included. Yes economic slavery is real and every working man/consumer who doesn't understand why they work is a slave. But having or not having kids is its own issue. And theirs a good argument for not having children being very selfish.

"These three great Masters remained individuals. Once in a while somebody was impressed by their writings, but it remained intellectual, so there is no hope in the near future of Lieh Tzu, Chuang Tzu or Lao Tzu being born again in China, or their influence in any way changing the course of China’s history, because in fact they have never been of any great importance in China’s mind. Confucius and Lao Tzu were contemporaries. Confucius had even gone to meet Lao Tzu, because Lao Tzu was certainly a man of tremendous qualities. Confucius was a great thinker, but only a thinker. He had nothing as far as his own inner consciousness is concerned, no experience, no idea who he is, but he had planned for the society perfectly well, a very mannered, cultured society. Hearing that Lao Tzu was nearby, living in a cave beyond the lake, he went to see him. A few of his disciples also went, but he told them, “You wait outside the cave.” They said, “Why? It will be good, we can listen.” He said, “You don’t understand. I will tell you the reason later on. Let me go first. If I feel it right I will call you in.” They stayed outside, Confucius went in. Lao Tzu was sitting silently. He did not say to Confucius even to sit down, and Confucius was man of manners, etiquette. He had not expected that a great sage, Lao Tzu, would not even ask. He did not say hello or even hi - even that short form, “hi.” He simply sat down, looking at Confucius, and Confucius said, “Sir, don’t you believe in manners?” Lao Tzu laughed. He said, ‘I thought you knew all the manners - what is the need for me to tell you? If you feel like sitting, you will sit down! You are not a man who does not know manners. If you like to stand up, it is my etiquette not to disturb you. You can stand up!” Confucius said, “But you… you did not even say hello.” Lao Tzu said, “I said it. You could not hear it. It was a test: I said it silently. I wanted to know whether the famous philosopher Confucius understands silence or not. So you understand only words - that much is decided! And you have expectations. You cannot sit down on your own, you have to be told. This cave does not belong to me. When I came here, nobody said ‘sit down,’ because nobody was here. Why should I say it? It is not my cave, nothing belongs to me. Just the way I am sitting, you can sit down. You are not a child to be told.” Confucius had never met such a man. And on each point he was rebuffed badly. Then Lao Tzu said, “If you really want to learn anything, first go and renounce all the idiots you have collected as your disciples. You don’t know anything and you have thousands of disciples. It is hilarious! You just go and tell them the truth, that you don’t know anything, and then come, because I teach only if somebody does not know. If he knows it already, why should he bother me? An old man… Leave me alone!” Confucius came out, and he had not the courage to say to his disciples that he did not know. He had thousands of disciples, he was the most famous man at that time. Very few people knew about Lao Tzu. Confucius has remained a shadow over the whole of Chinese history. It is only somewhere in the footnotes you can find the name of Lao Tzu. Confucius was not courageous enough to say “I do not know.” The disciples said “You didn’t ask us to come in. He said, “It was good that I didn’t ask you to come in. And please don’t ask the reason. That man is not a man; he is a dragon. He is dangerous, avoid him as far as possible. This is my first and last meeting with that old guy!” And he was perspiring. It was a cold morning and the cave was very cool, but he was perspiring. The disciples said, “But why are you perspiring?” He said, “I am alive - that’s enough! Just take me away from here.”"

Can see how Plato influenced Christianty! The thing with fitness being tied to attractiveness for a happy life is a slippery slope, also finding a soul mate...people have some kind of romantic idea of what a soulmate is and believe they will magically know when they meet "the one". Some people are lucky and find their soulmate but the majority of others not so much. It seems that saying in one place NOT to rely on others for happiness and fulfillment, and then to say find your soulmate for happiness and fulfillment, seems to me a contradiction, and perhaps not necessarily true.

The video author has taken liberties with Plato's views here. I doubt Plato would agree with the modern meaning of 'soul mate.' All Plato really said is that if we do love another person, it should be subordinated to the aim of spiritual and moral advancement of you and the other person, and not be physical. He did not say we should be seeking out 'that special someone' in our life. Plato himself never married, although he had many philosophical friends.

They told be me at boot camp this -- DO THE RIGHT THING EVEN WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING I said yes yes I know that already --- HOW COULD YOU YOU JUST GOT HERE MORON -- I screamed back from my grandmother and the nuns who raised me told this from age 5 onwards every morning because I grew up without a mother at 5. That's where I learned this. EVERY DISAPPOINTMENT IS A BLESSING IN DISGUISE YOU GOTTA BELIEVE ME HERE. I'm so so so greatful to my creator and all the beautiful people he placed me with. Thank u God. Or whatever your name is. That's irrelevant. My gratitude flows like Niagara falls.
