- **Application**: Applied directly to wood after staining or finishing.
- **Use Case**:
- Ideal for adding a protective layer to stained or finished wood.
- Enhances the wood grain and provides a smooth feel.
- **Advantages**:
- Easy to apply.
- Adds a subtle sheen.
- Can be buffed to a higher gloss.
- **Considerations**:
- Does not provide significant durability or water resistance.
- Requires periodic reapplication.
2. **Minwax Tung Oil**:
- **Description**: Minwax Tung Oil Finish is an oil-based finish that penetrates the wood and enhances its natural beauty.
- **Application**: Applied directly to raw wood.
- **Use Case**:
- Suitable for new wood projects.
- Provides a warm, natural appearance.
- **Advantages**:
- Enhances wood grain.
- Easy to apply.
- Dries to a durable finish.
- **Considerations**:
- Requires multiple coats for optimal protection.
- May darken wood slightly.
3. **Minwax Polycrylic**:
- **Description**: Minwax Polycrylic is a water-based protective finish.
- **Application**: Used on wood surfaces, especially those requiring durability and water resistance.
- **Use Case**:
- Commonly used on furniture, cabinets, and woodwork.
- Provides a clear, protective layer.
- **Advantages**:
- Dries quickly.
- Low odor.
- Easy cleanup.
- Resists yellowing over time.
- **Considerations**:
- May alter wood color slightly.
- Not suitable for antique restoration.
Remember that the choice depends on your specific project, desired appearance, and level of protection needed. Always test on a small area before applying any finish to your entire piece. 🌲🔨🛠️

Hi Abigail! Well it depends on the wood and the look I want to achieve. The polycrylic seems to keep the wood lighter in color...but tung oil and beezwax (not pictured) are my favorites..

Good morning John! I have watched quite a few driftwood videos and some YT’ers say you have to clean the wood in bleach water first; some let it soak 30 min.…is that necessary? I have redone some old pieces of furniture that was passed down to me from family and I did clean those with TSP or just Simple Green and rinse any residue off … stripping, patching, sanding and paint or staining…have used the poly acrylic and waxes…so it seems your work with the driftwood is similar to the process of redoing furniture. I saw a video were the guy uses marine finish as he uses his driftwood for garden art and makes some interesting planters. Lastly; I bought a carved bear about 20 years ago and I think they stained it with a solid black stain but not sure what it is sealed with. I am afraid of sanding it so I was wondering if you had knowledge of how to ‘reseal’ it…freshen it up. I was curious if the tung oil would work? I don’t have experience with that product. Thanks for the great videos they are fun to watch.

hi Tina and good morning to you. In regards to cleaning or disinfecting driftwood there are a couple of things to consider. First it’s going to depend on where you’re using the final product so a dry aquarium versus a wet aquarium would require different cleaning processes to ensure the safety of the fish or the reptiles, if you’re using it for wall art or macramé or something like that recommendations I have found is that you would want to bleach it and get that washed out look.. for the work that I do. It’s going to depend on the initial quality of the wood if it’s covered with algae and dirt and I’m gonna sand it all the way down to almost nothing. It seems like an extra step that I’d rather just skip, but I have a power washer just to get the big gunk off let it dry and then go back and sand.

in regards to your bear that sounds really cool. And again it’s going to depend on where is the bear going to be if he’s going to be in your house you would want to you use an interior polyacrylic or something like that. It’s exterior then you’re gonna want to use an exterior sealant and possibly gloss like the marine finish that one guy used, I hope that helps best of luck to whatever you got going on for being part of JDub-Life.

@@JDub-Life Thank you! This is the wood. I tried applying polyurethane spray and wood stain to the other pieces I found but when it dries it looks matte with shiny spots 😩 I’m adding a short video. kzbin.infoFvTbn9nsm5o?si=AjsUahJYrz4Z7SeV
