Your videos are so educational. It's easy for us to sit back and watch what you do but now we realize how labor intensive this work is and your attention to detail. I find these videos very interesting. You should be ready for a nice vacation after you're all finished!

What a difference! I've viewed other videos of sheetrock finishing, but it all looks like playdough being applied to create a LOT of sanding work later. Your technique shows a lot of thought for the overall process and not just throwing it on there. Thank you for taking the time to teach others.

Bill you make dry wall finishing look so easy. I have a few family members that do that for a living they to are vary good . My first home had sheet rock in it I hated doing it 🙃 I was mo good . My brother helped us he new what he was doing. It's definitely a skill. In my second is a log home and all tounge and groove it was much easier. Someone's gonna get a nice home 🏡 😌

Nice tool. We've done quite a bit of drywall spackling in the past but still not looking forward to our fall project. Hate to say this but you made me feel tired just watching you. 😬 I'm 64 and my husband is 71. Add poor eyesight and failing health and you have a recipe for disaster. But having said that we did manage to fix our fallen fence with three new posts and the Lord blessed us with kind new neighbors you did the difficult part of attaching the final end piece. God is good and so kind. He gives us the strength we need for whatever He allows to come our way. Thank you for sharing with us all and may God bless all you do.

Looks great. It is an art. That's why my husband who renovated two of our homes, himself, always leaves this part to the experts!

The first drywall spackling I did: terrible! My Dad, a carpenter, said, when I asked him id he thought it wasn't TOO bead, said, "well, if you don't look at it, it's not too bad." LOL! Anyway, I learned that doing a good job of drywall is certainly an artwork. One of the maintenance guys at work, when fixing any little holes or dents in sheetrock on the walls, was absolutely great at it. He said he had lots of experience, as he was the Dad of a large family. :)

I am a very meticulous detail-oriented person so when I did this I preferred to do it as perfect as possible first because of the mess that sanding causes. I really like your technique. I loved working with mud. I also did lots of wet sanding too. I loved primer and painting. This room is going to look bigger and be much brighter now.

Painting that room is going to look a lot brighter and give it an updated look. I had dark paneling in my back hallway, I ripped it all out. Since my walls are plaster, I used a thicker primer and troweled the primer on to give it a southwestern look before covering it with semi-gloss. Plaster walls are the worst. This is going to really look nice when done.

Great teaching video Bill. I've taped and floated a lot of walls through the years but I learned a lot from you today. Working with that light in your hand while you sanded....WoW! Never thought of that. Thank you so much. (All of the house flippers in my area should be ashamed at their shoddy work!). One question- will you put back all of the built ins that were in the room like the desk and bookshelf area? I think custom built-ins are a sure sign of a well done home. There's a certain price point in today's new home construction with custom built-ins and you just don't see it in the midrange homes. Thank you again for a great video. I should send this video to my ex-husband so you can show him how it's done! ☺️
@LiveSimpleLiveFree2 жыл бұрын
We will not be putting any built-ins back into that room. It was obviously a sewing room. But we don't know what the new owner will want to use it for, and built-ins would limit the use. It could be a bedroom, sewing room, library, office... and each one would need a different design. So we'll just give them nice clean walls so they can do what they want with it.

Back before the "everyone MUST go to college" mantra" this is just what guys did: they trained their sons up in their business, and then as the sons took over, they stuck around doing what they could as long as they could. They lent their expertise and wisdom, they did the lighter work, and they supported their sons and grandsons while they did the heavier work. By the end of their lives, they might simply have been sitting on a stump in the yard while the work went on around them, but they were still involved, with family, and stimulated by the work around them. They weren't sitting in a wheelchair in a urine scented hallway. This is being an elder as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob did. I think it is a model we need to get back to. Not only do you have the pleasure of working with your son, but you get to help disciple your grandson.

Nice job, I was wondering why you wouldn't use caulking instead of quarter round on the seam between the walls & ceiling❓
@LiveSimpleLiveFree2 жыл бұрын
The gap is too big. And with the textured ceiling it would be impossible to get the caulk smooth. It would look terrible. We’ll use quarter round, or maybe even larger crown molding.

I agree, the concept looks easy, but getting that stuff smooth can be a booger.

In a remodel after the mud, can it be sprayed with a finish if it still looked damaged? Or is it one or the other? Thanks Bill!
@LiveSimpleLiveFree2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know what you mean by “sprayed with a finish.” Are you talking about a textured surface? In that case, you must completely finish the Sheetrock BEFORE you texture it. Texturing does not hide the seems if they have not been finished first.

I had a drunk driver try to park his car in my living room, so we had to have an entire wall replaced. The sheet rock team troweled the mud on, let it set about 15 minutes while they cleaned up their trowels, then used a lightly damp sponge and smoothed everything up immediately. No sanding, no dust. And I have checked the seams in a raking light, no edges, no lines. I am very confused why all the there is all this work and sanding, with how well this worked for them?
