I’m in the final stages of finishing a 29x39” coffee table… my 1st larger protect. This video was extremely helpful, clear and informative. I’m using beautiful mahogany and plan on treating w the wood not putting epoxy on it. The epoxy is a green/blue. At this point I have to repair a couple of surface bubble holes. I’m very optimistic.

What about all the air bubbles do you just leave them? I flood coat top and bottom the same way just done my top flood coat tonight always use a gas torch to pop all the micro bubble plus it helps it leave out aswel with a bit of heat. I find 3 oz per square foot works well. Table looks great nice job 👍

I’ve read a lot of places that you should finish both sides within 24 hours to prevent warping. I’m getting ready to finish my first table. What is your recommendation? How far out can you space the finishing safely?
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 4 ай бұрын
You really want to seal both sides as quickly as you can because warping can happen overnight

So you did a 1oz per sqft seal coat first then this finishing coat for the underside of the table. Is that correct? Looks good and going to use the taping trick to help the drips (from the other video). I just need to decide now if I want to do a finish on the underside like this one. Mine is not a river table though but a bread board style table using Balau (a type of tropical hardwood like teak). Getting close to my first ever pour!

Incredible looking table. How many ounces per square foot for seal coat did you use? Using casting epoxy soaking into the wood more helps us. We are doing a table that this will help us with. So much help from your videos. Thanks

Start with 1 oz per square foot and monitor it. When the wood soaks in the epoxy add a little more.

when you flood the top and the drips are on the bottom, do you wait for the epoxy to fully cure before you pull the tape off? or do you do it during the cure?

I do have a good question when building the "tub" to place the wood and epoxy in wouldn't it be easier to pour epoxy in first as a base then place the wood on top of it or would that not work?
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about “easier” . Trying to lay the wood into epoxy and having it not move around while clamping it down would be an issue. However, this could work but it may be just a waste of epoxy since it will be planed down after removing from the mold.

Ethan. Do u put any metal support inside between the slabs? Im going to build a 4x10 Im wonder if is necessary to put metal for support between slabs?
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I would say any longer than what I have done you will need a support underneath to keep it flat.

Do you have any issues with the top absorbing moisture. Since you're finishing the bottom first is that something that could happen?
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 3 жыл бұрын
It is something that can happen. However, the bigger issue is wood that has moisture drying faster on one side vs the other. That is what causes cupping and twisting and such. I finish the bottom first then the top soon after that.

Nathan, I may come across as a noob, but here it is: why do you bevel the edges in the first place? Is it to improve over-flow of the flood coat, or is there another reason?
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
The reason is that it increases the surface tension of the epoxy as it flows over the side. If you didn’t round the sides, the sharp corner would cause a break in the epoxy when it flows over and you would have an entire edge and side with almost no epoxy coverage. Hope this makes sense
@realstefbecker

1 finishing the bottom keeps it stable from movement. 2. Finishing the bottom ads quality to my product. I make my tackles scratch resistant by using hard finishes such as polyaspartic, polyurethane etc.
