I stopped using those tile trowels because I was noticing a faint shadow of trowel marks in the finished piece. This doesn't happen when I use squeegees.

Hey there 👋. I have an opaque black river in my table. Someone told me I sanded it too smooth for an epoxy topcoat, I went up to 360 grit. Wondering your opinion, if I should roughen it up more before I start sealing & flooding. My thought was that because my river is so black that the swirley sanding scratches would show through after flood coating. Excellent video btw! Thanks!

You keep that hot gun very close to the surface and stay still in the same place for a lot of seconds, if I do that the resin starts to smoke and I'm scared I will compromise the resin. Doesn't that happen to you?

I’m working with epoxy and haven’t done a flood coat yet. Do you do anything to the bottom to seal and prevent bowing ?

Hi Kelly! Thanks for the comment. The piece I was working on was thick enough where I was not really worried about warping. You could do several thinner seal coats prior to the flood which would also minimize any warping. Let me know how your project goes!

What do you use for the seal coat

Hi Nathan, love your work, just want to find out something please? When you pour either seal coat or flood coat, there will be run over off the edges and I can see that you keep scraping it of but what happens when it does finally settle after leaving it overnight and it has built up on the bottom edges underneath your project? Do you sand it off but then it will show that it was sanded, not sure how to address that. Thanks

Use painters tape along the bottom edge, peel it off in the morning.

How do you avoid dust to deposit on the coat?

Definitely the tricky part, be sure to have a very clean environment and be careful to not have fans blowing debris onto the piece. Sorry for the delayed response!
