Been watching a lot of Videos about this subject DC, this is one of the best ones out there, your breakdown has been a littlie better than others. I like how you completely covered up the head on that handtied jig (TOP SECRET) stuff right there. Thank you for making it.

My brother in law took me to my 1st lake to bass fish. It was center hill lake in Tenn. You probably know it’s a clear lake, in 1974,and he tied on a hair jig that he tied out of deer hair. And we caught the dang Nabbit out of small mouth. You reminded me of that, and I’m going to go tie some of those. Thx for sharing dat.

My grandfather made hair jigs back in the 50’s for fisherman chasing striped bass (a.k.a. Rockfish) on the Santee Cooper lakes. He used belly hair from deer my uncle shot. Had to be a deer shot towards the end of the season when that hair was the longest. Rumor has it my grandfather also wouldn’t hesitate to cut belly hair from a roadkill deer after the season went out.

I don’t know how old hair jigs are but I read about President Teddy Roosevelt and he talked about hair jigs in his outdoor book and that was in the late 1800’s.

I use hair jigs in my river amd the bass seem to be attracted to them pretty good. However, I use long neck ewg jig heads ( ball/swim etc) and tie my own hair amd feathers... Works out pretty good

awesome vid DC. Totally agree with you on the hook set. Don’t need to well into them like a jig because you’re not having to bust through a weed guard either. Just curious, are you also taking a loop not to get a little better action?

Ironically, I just watched the video of JW being interviewed by Zona when he won the tournament. And he asked about the hair jig. So you caught fatties, JW won a tournament….I just ordered 4 of them. The heavier ones are a little harder to find. Excellent video, thank you!!
