Just watch this video, really helpful. What weight should i use when fishing with a jig? I fish from bank only
@BassGeek6 жыл бұрын
Great question. For the bank angler you should toss a much lighter jig. I like a 1/2oz from a boat but from the bank I start with a 1/4oz or even a 1/8oz. You're fishing the exact opposite direction for the bank than from a boat. As a rule with any bait you go lighter as you get shallower. Since a lot of the time, from the bank, you're casting to deeper water and working it back up to shallower water that lighter bait will fall slower getting more bites and get snagged up much less. Oh gentle hops when bringing it back. If you drag it do it over a VERY short distance then hop it up you will get hung up much less with that retrieve.

What’s the difference from a boat than the bank with the size lighter weigh makes it easier to bring back through the grass and stuff fishing from the bank

Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

When you started saying Treble and Bass, I instantly became a fan. Quick add on tip. When you think there is a fish on, so you pause mid lift to see if it pulls back: be mindful of the motion of your boat relative to water as well. If your boat is moving up and down in the water and you consciously forget this, you might thinks its a fish pulling back, but its actually the line pulling/loosening in a branch thats now being pulled and relieved by you right back. To use a scientific term: its giving a retrograde like effect. Cheers 😎🎸🎣🎵🎶🎵

Subscribed! This is the first video I've found that actually explains the whole gambit. You, sir, are a saint. So many videos give a brief description, then cut to about 3 seconds before they're setting the hook. I've wondered how to exactly "work" these things. Also, your 'treble' and 'bass' description needed no explanation. That said it all perfectly. Also the brush guard tip is fantastic. Thanks so much for this tutorial... time to binge-watch many more of your vids.

I've been fishing for 20 years but I've just recently really gotten into it. before i was just using good ol' worm and bobber and sometimes a Texas rig. now that the tug has become the drug and I've been really trying to learn everything i can, i can say that i really appreciate tutorial videos such as this. i have always tried to teach myself everything about fishing, but jig fishing has always been a last priority. mainly because of the fact that when i had tried them in the past i had never gotten anything. as soon as you started explaining the different jig types you had me hooked as a subscriber. i have looked up some certain fishing tutorial videos in the past and was never impressed until now. you answered every question i might have had about jig fishing and beyond. thank you for the great tips, I've watched this video a few times over to take in as much information as i can and i will certainly be trying a jig on my home lake here in Michigan very soon. again, great video, and thank you again!

Great video. I will say a couple of weeks ago I did have one ol bucket mouth fool me. I was using a jig beating docks and I came up on a old broke up boat ramp. I guessed to where the end of the ramp was a threw the jig. When the jig hit the bottom I had several real fast taps and I figured a small fish. I set the hook and this 5+ comes up a surprises me. Never been fooled like that. Was a 1st. But fun. Awesome videos.

I have used a jig and pig combo before however, I have learned how to use them properly and to use the jig to feel the bottom. Using your advice I will more than likely become a better jig fisherman. I have seen the results of successful jig fishing at a South Georgia lake called "Ray's Mill Pond" in Lanier county. They have a lot of "snot bonnets" and it is a pretty shallow lake. The boat owner caught 8 bass over five pounds in as little as 3 hours. He told me the jig and pig is likened to an Ice Cream Sunday for a bass. Lots of fuel for the tank for fishing in the Month of March during the pre-spawn. Thanks!!!!

I grew up fishing all jigs on straight braid and I can feel the jig scrape over a rock, wood, gravel and feel bites well. I recently switched to straight fluorocarbon and now it feels mushy. I brought my jig back and realized I was fishing rocks and didn't know it. I'm sure I was missing bites also. I am really torn about this and I feel like my favorite way of fishing has to be relearned. I am using premium fluoro and sensitive rods but I feel disconnected to the jig now. I will not use a leader, It's one or the other. Any thoughts on this?

When I lived in California, I used to absolutely crush bass on jigs all year.. now that I live in the north, jigs only work sometimes.. what I have noticed works all year here in particular, is ned rigs! I've caught all species on the ned! Perhaps it something to do with confidence in what you're using, but where I live now - jigs are secondary in my choosing.

No apostrophe on JIGS, unless a single jig is expressing ownership of something else. When it comes to apostrophes, it's "when in doubt, leave it out".

@@BassGeek I wouldn't have mentioned it if it weren't in all CAPS on the the damn thumbnail of the video. It makes it stick out and look very unprofessional. So, maybe it's more the common sense police here... That said, good video with good content--despite the thumbnail.

@@peppe406 Commons sense would say that the video has been up for 3yrs and has 976 comments so it's doubtful you are the first to point it out. So you might want to ask yourself why I've never changed it. Could be because I know it just drives people like you nuts.

@@BassGeek DANG! You got me... I'm gonna have to catch a hawg today on a jig with a craw trailer.

I never thought I could learn so much in 12:38. Obviously this isn't your first rodeo. How you were focused on the camera made me feel I was actually in the boat with you. Video very well made. Please keep up this great work ! "If it moves its a fish, if it doesn't its a limb". I'm putting this in a T-shirt !

Wanna thank you for this content. I was just out at a park after work trying to fish my new jig, and I'm brand new to fishing so of course I'm trying to set the hook on every thing, and fish it like a crank bait, and all the older guys out there watching me are just shaking their heads and chuckling as I snag every damn stick in the place. Hopefully next time I can at least look like I know what I'm doing.

I’m going to go out fishing tomorrow and use a jig and try to hold my rod and reel the same way as you but you have big hands and I don’t think mine will fit around the reel the same as yours do. Great tips, just found your channel and enjoy learning from you.

Very nicely formatted video man! I have seen even some of the best fishing youtubers start a jig video with "i'm going to explain everything you need to know about a jig" and quickly get all mixed up and turned around, leaving me still very confused. You explained it step by step without getting ahead of yourself which made it sooo easy to follow! Thanks!

Wow... I just came across this video, and I have to say it is the most informative video I have ever seen. Amazing job! I fish jigs a lot, and I have been struggling to get bites. I continually have the feeling that I am not doing something right. I learned so much from this video that I feel like I now have a better understanding of how to work a jig the right way. I'm excited to go out and put what I learned to use. Thank you for taking the time to make this video!
