In this video, I decide to shift gears and do a how to video featuring one of my most trusted lures: the jig spinner, perhaps most commonly known as a beetle spin. These lures, most often used in the smaller sizes, are very inexpensive and popular, because they are highly effective at drawing strikes and are easy to fish.
These baits are effectively a downsized spinnerbait and are a great way to try out a spinnerbait if you are intimidated by using full size ones. These lures have many of the same benefits of spinnerbaits, such as a snag-resistant design and the ability to cover water relatively quickly in search of active fish. You can also change your presentation with a jig spinner very easily with the clip, which allows you to attach different jig hooks and different plastics or other baits without having to re-tie. This can save you precious time on the water.
A wide range of different species will strike these lures and they can be effective in a variety of environments, from murky ponds to clear rivers.
While their simplicity and ease of use may lead some anglers to categorize these baits as only for beginners or children, seasoned anglers know that a basic lure like the jig spinner should always have a place in the tackle box. It's one of my go to lures when I don't know what to expect and just want to catch a fish.
