How to Fish for Striped Bass with Straight Tail vs. Paddletail Lures

FishTalk angler in chief Lenny Rudow and Alex Gallardo Perez from ‪@anglersannapolis9847‬ give some pointers on how to fish for striped bass and the different techniques used when fishing with straight tail lures versus paddletail lures. A straight tail fishing lure such as a ‪@basskandydelights5795‬BKD has very little action when retrieved, but when given a fast jigging action with the rod, the tail of the lure whips and entices the fish to bite. A paddletail lure like the ‪@ZManFishingProducts‬ DieZel MinnowZ can simply be reeled in slowly and the lure will naturally provide a swimming action, or it can also be jigged to give the lure additional movement.

Hey Patrick - you certainly can catch them there, but it's not likely to be a "hot bite." Numbers-wise, there are more catfish than anything else. The perch fishing can be really good, too, but at this point in the season they may have already shifted to winter haunts. Good luck!

Why is the Choptank bridge, Bill Burton Fishing Pier still closed? Ol Bill would be turning over in his grave if he knew about how that place ended up.

Yeah, that is a big bummer... the DNR has been reporting that it's a structural issue and there's a worry it could collapse. There are a couple plans in the works right now to determine what can be done, including potentially repairing and saving a portion of the pier. Right now they're hoping to save a 270' portion on the Dorchester County side, and the land portion of the Talbot County side is currently open to anglers.
