My uncle Tim took me on a trip once where we used roostertails, the one I used was a black and white one. I was about to start fishing off of this rock we were on but I started tumbling down and fell in the water. I got caught in the current and lost my rod and the roostertail. The next Christmas he got me a roostertail just like the one i had lost as a kind of gag gift😂 He died a few months later in a dirt bike accident. I guess since then roostertails have always had a special place in my heart.

That same Yakima rooster tail I used all summer slaying trout in a river between the oregon coast and the Idaho boarder. I use a barrel swivel but still had line twist, never thought if the snap swivel. Time to buy more gear!

Samuel Rose Barrel swivels are way better. You can tie a florocarbon leader, snap swivels tangle and impede action, rooster tails dont have any action so I guess that part doesnt matter, but you can tie a knot in a few seconds anyway so it really isnt saving much, it also make the lure look way longer and from my experience smarter fish can see it

I would also talk about the right size and weight and if you put splitshots on or the different patterns so they don’t get tangled when casting! We want to see you catch atleast a fish per video when you do the tutorials! We don’t care how big! That way, it helps new people to the fish world that this method will work! Next video, maybe talk about how to dissect a lake when first coming to it?

The ball bearing snap swivels work best. also, stop reeling for a second or two during retrieve, let spinner drop then resume reeling.

Correction:) I run a lot of people down the river for trout, go to, hands down 1/4 ounce chrome thomas... matter of fact if I have to pick one lure or spinner out of all of them the quarter ounce Thomas lure Hands Down beats them all. I have caught steelhead salmon it does it all.... so back to the roostertail. I love the rooster tail especially the black, yellow, brown, crawdad.... I know I'm rambling, the problem with the rooster tail that it does not run well with a swivel you have to give your Rod a pop or a hook set to get that blade running. If you don't swivel and all spin in the water and the blade lays flat against the body. It wil fish way better tide straight to your main line without a swivel sure you get a little twist every 4 5 6 cast 10 cast dangle it after you retrieve it and off you go don't take my word for it try it done it for years🎣

Snap swivels always mess with the spin of my rooster tails. I tie on with a loop knot and have no issues.

After your bobber and worm video I spent 4 hours at BG Lake without so much as a nibble. I think maybe I don't know where the fish are. I never saw them at the surface, or looking down into the water (which was super clear), so maybe a vid with some tips on finding fish would help. Thanks!

We definitely can do that. The fish are deep now. About 1-2 feet off the bottom. Best method right now is powerbait or power eggs floated off the bottom. Those fish in the lake are also keying into garlic scent so grab some pro cure garlic gel to add to your bait.
