I'll comment on this one... I'm not the most qualified to talk about social media ethics BUT I have had three years to learn from the river naming MISTAKE I made. You are intentionally posting river names wherever you go, whether its because you're trying to help people LEARN, trying to CLICKBAIT free info for views, or you're doing it as "revenge" to get back at people who are asking you not to. Naming Big Man, Grand, even Betsie is one thing. But this one is 100% a step too far, and I'll be really surprised if you can't see that. You would receive a lot of backlash for posting this even if you didn't name it, because it includes landmarks that make the exact spot EASILY findable for anyone with a computer. You could have simply filmed from the other direction, not named the river, and noone would have a clue where you were. And you would have still helped a beginner fisherman out by showing them the technique or whatever. When I was first starting making videos I named a river I shouldn't have and accidentally filmed illegally. I was completely clueless, and once the backlash came in I took it down, APOLOGIZED multiple times, took responsibility, and paid the fine. You haven't done anything illegal BUT what you are doing by naming rivers is completely INTENTIONAL, and for that reason I don't see many serious steelheaders or Michigan fisherman in general taking you seriously, or forgiving you. Especially on the east side of the state after what they have been through with their salmonid fisheries, those guys won't forget stuff like this. Taking it down would be a good start. Don't take this as me telling you what to do, but I've made a lot of mistakes along the way and I think my advice could help you. I had only 2,000 subscribers when I made my last video with a river name, since then I've done my best to keep landmarks out and keep my videos from overloading spots or exposing spots that were previously "low key". You can grow your channel, and maybe even your guide service... without using locations as clickbait. Again this is not me telling you what to do, or threatening, but I figured if I'm ever gonna type a paragraph now's the time. i don't have facebook, but I can imagine you are getting torn apart on there. Between that, these comments, and the dislike ratio on this video, that should tell you something is WRONG. Tight lines/no hate

Don't worry about these don't name the river bro's, any buddy with a smart phone can get the rivers, parking spots, even the holes and hot lures with a simple Facebook or michigansportsman forum search. People are usually to eager to share how much they know. All these fish are put and take for the most part anyways. Steelhead and brown trout are not native to Michigan bonk'em and smoke them. Also if a shop promotes fly only sections, don't shop there, everyone pays for these fish everyone should be able to catch them.

I get the hate but I dont. Naming small streams and places that shouldnt be named is bad but the rifle river has been on tv for years for great fishing for most species. Including steelhead. They call it the 2nd pere Marquette or something like that. They literally compare it to the PM. People need to chill. It's a known steelhead river. It's like people hating on him for posting the grand river or st Joe's or betsie. They're all known rivers. Y'all need to relax lol I'm from 2 hours plus away from the rifle and I've known its had good steelie runs since I was 12. Like c'mon. I'll agree that trail creek video should've been not mentioned but people also travel from all over the US for the skam run there so not really harm on that one. Just the unknown streams u should never say. No hate on this video. Fucking amazing catches bro. I think the guy having cheap gear was proving a point. To show that it's not that hard but u also cant just go out and catch them. It takes a form of skill so the people sayin he dont know what hes doing... dont know what they're doing I think lol

So I have to ask, why is naming rivers such a big deal? Sure I get that more traffic might lead to trash and erosion of the banks along the river, and there might be someone in my spot if I didn’t roll my ass out of bed early enough, but I’ve seen quite a few of the individuals giving Brad and Fray a hard time leave their skein, tie bags and braid nests all over the river along with their Monster Energy drinks and their booze bottles. In my opinion, most of the guys that are influenced by social media are only fishing during the peak seasons and won’t walk more than a few hundred yards to find fish. Case in point, in this video, Brad didn’t walk but a few hundred yards up river, so this spot can’t be that hard to find. Also, I’ve fished all over the state this winter and had nearly every spot to myself. At the end of the day, we are always going to run into other anglers during the runs, and if you want your spots to remain secret, hike in deep, get up early and everyone practice what you preach and pick up after yourselves. Maybe I’m missing something but I think we are all being a bit dramatic...🥴

Its called to much pressure on a small river
@mattstout856
@mattstout856 4 жыл бұрын
So is your concern that there are too many anglers and your spot maybe taken? Or is it that smaller rivers like this can’t handle the fishing pressure to sustain an adequate population of fish for years to come? I would assume it’s a bit of both, which in my opinion, the first concern, was addressed in my original post. The later can be solved by catch and release. Probably a dirty word for skein throwers and gear heads but it does and can work. Maybe this river should be a flies only and have no kill zones like the upper sections of the PM? Welcome the debate, either way people are going to find spots and fishing demand is increasing, not a bad thing if you ask me but there are responsible ways to go about handling the increase in growth without getting all pissed off at everyone.
