How to Fish With a MirrOdine Suspending Twitchbait

In the brief video I demonstrate an effective cadence to work the suspending MirrOdine twitch bait, This particular bait is deadly when targeting inshore species such as trout, redfish and snook. The slow sink rate along with the sharp darting action really entices the strike. I challenge you to give it a try and let us know how you do. I don't think you will be disappointed. If you enjoyed this video, please like, share and subscribe if you haven't already. Until next time, we will see you on the water.

Great video as usual! I love the MirrOdine twitch bait and fish it much like you, I'll smear a little Pro-Cure on the belly of the lure to make a scent trail, when they bite, they bite hard. I've caught several snook and redfish right across that canal back up in the mangroves with the MirrOdine and or a Rat-L-Trap over the years. What a great area.

I agree with the method, just like to add that the MirroDine is a GO TO for a lot of fishing scenarios in the Freshwater as well. Sometimes you'll need to mix the retrieve to get the feeding started. I use the Twitch (T), Pause (P) and Crack (C)...when I Crack it, it is a Twitch but with a longer stroke. When I'm searching and covering water I make a cast, let it land and allow the ripples go away or at least let them move away 10 feet or so before I start. For example: (1st cast)T, T, P - (2nd Cast)T, C, P - (3rd Cast)C, T, T, P, P - (4th Cast)T, T, P. When you find the pattern or tempo they like, you can really get on'em. The most subtle adjustments DO Matter. You ever been fishing near someone else that was tearing them up and you were just not getting them, even with same lure/bait? Retrieve is probably the difference.

I have a full arsenal of mirrodine and love them, one of the best go to baits out there. I use a little different technique though. You need to discover what cadence turns the fish on. I start with only one jerk, casting in an arch around me. Then I go to two. And so on. Most always the bait will get hammered on the pause and drift down cycle.

so im 18 and i fished alot when i was a kid my dad used to take me when i was 3-4 and id pass out on the pier benches and theyd fish all night unfortunately im not as close to my dad anymore and live with my grandparents problem is my grandfather doesnt fish and ive never lost my passion for fishing. but the issue is its really hard to get into when you dont have anyone to teach you, ive got a nice rod and reel combo and i know what equipment is good and whats not but things like nots, and what lures to use with what setups can really be confusing and there isnt alot of videos explaining in detail the differences so i figured id post this and have the anglers of the internet help me out. So i have a st croix MHF 7'6 rod and im curious as to whether or not your able to use artificial bait like the mirrOdine on a setup as "heavy" as the one i have or if id need to get another lighter rod (which i plan on doing in the future anyway, im just young and pay for all my own equipment). i went for the heavier rod because i live in florida and wanted a rod that i can confidently fish in most saltwater scenarios whether im pier fishing or light tacle surf fishing or just river fishing with some friends. the issue is i recently grabbed some of these lures because we have snook all over and theyre fun to catch but im just wondering if my rod would be able to work the twitch bait being as big as it is. i guess i could always try it and if it works it works if not oh well, i havent fished since i got them i havent had a good day off in a minute, anyway any tips or info feel free to reply i could use it all lol.

A fast action rod will bend in only the top third or less of the blank, a medium or moderate action will bend in the top half or so and a slow action will bend starting in the lower third of the rod.

Call me stooopid but I just found out they make a 37-M MirrodineXXL. The redhead XL got a 15# then next cast a 16# peacock in Colombia in March then a 21# in Brazil in December until a big fish pulled the front hook hanger. Next month a few XXLs are going back to Colombia. I prefer the twitch, twitch, twitch, BAM.

@@johnkarges8829Awesome, a few Mirrodines would be worth the little space they take up. My Amazon bag keeps growing with each trip (just got back from #11). My two trips just prior to covid the chart 4 3/8" Crystal Minnow was the star but these last two not so much. Once again, the Mirrodine got its share when the topwaters weren't on but every afternoon at 4:00 began chopper time. I have gotten both bass and peas in the 3 pound range in my back yard while tuning props for trips, didn't expect that.

I’ve recently heard a lot of discouragement from using a loop knot (or quick clip), to prevent fouling by the front hook, an issue I have because I twitch-twitch TOO vigorously and need to slow it down from the caffeinated retrieve I use. So, I’ve heard several say to use a hard knot, like an improved clinch. I will try it next time I’m wade-fishing.
