Great video and informative on pros and cons on fitting 37s. Maybe look into regearing to 4.56 gears from the stock 4.10s to bring the powerband back to stock and get rid of the sluggish heavier feel with the bigger tires. I have the Cobb accesport with tcm and so far I like it. It gave noticeable power and made driving in sport mode enjoyable and got rid of the clunky oem shifting in that mode. Here in the southwest where I live we only have 91 octane so I can only use the 91 octane program but I believe in California you have 93 octane readily available to use the 93 octane program for bigger gains. I also think you had a programmer on the previous truck but removed it cause it gave you codes or problems not sure. Well anyway, great video and looking forward to possible front suspension upgrades
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Marco Perez 93 is hard to find in Cali. Texas is where it’s easy to get. I did run the Cobb tune in the last truck with 37s and I did not like it. Back then there was no transmission tuning and I had to reset ECU almost weekly to get the truck from shifting all hard. The tune also did not really help on the top end. It felt like once you hit 75-80 she had nothing more to give with 37s. Trying to get over 90 on dirt was just not possible and signs of an incomplete tune because she kept overboosting too. It a fan of the Cobb tune.

Thanks man. I’m in agreement with you and mentioned it several times over my videos. Only reason I did this video series is for 2 reasons. 1. Too much bad info online on 37s and the Gen2. There are way too many posers and pavement princesses that say it works with light trimming. In the next video I proved it wrong. And showed what it’s actually required just to clear them. 2. I was given 2 free sets of 37s. It was either sell them or use them. I picked the let’s prove some of the myths wrong route. A route I’m really not liking. 37s limit the truck and cause so much more wear with a stock ish setup.

Great video. One thing to note however is that 37s don't always weight more. For example the Factory Beadlock wheels and stock KO2 tires are 107 lbs, the non-bead lock wheels and factory KO2 tires are 100lbs. Most of the aftermarket wheels weight less. So for example my Fifteen52 traverse HD wheels are 29.88 lbs and 37" KO2 are 69 lbs for a total of 99lbs. The 37" KM3 are 77 lbs so with my wheels its a total of 107 lbs. They do change the gearing slight due to the increase in overall diameter.

Well done, I did the same thing on my 2017 back in January, I put a few coats of flex seal on the bent pinch welds instead of paint( and wish I had started with caulk in the cut lines first) to help reseal up the outside elements from entering into the cab. And yes a long handle 12lb sledge along with an short handles 8lb did the trick for me, but still took a sh*t ton of beating to get them flat. @KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
A “lift kit” is the worst thing you can do to a Raptor. Specially if you want to put 37s on the truck. For one, the lift kit removes any off-road capabilities of the truck. The shock spacers they use will collapse first wash or small jump you take at speed. It also changes the suspension geometry such that it eliminates most of your suspension travel. And finally, you still have to trim because the tires will rub a lot. Don’t put a lift kit on a Raptor.

I wonder if using two 12" adjustable wrenches tightened down at the edges of the bend and inserting a steel rod through the holes at the end of the wrenches then pushing on the rod would have made it easier to bend those pinch welds. Maybe, maybe not but leverage is your friend. Seems like there would be enough room and the distance in between the cuts is small so even though the wrenches wouldn't be exactly parallel to each other a smaller rod should still fit through both holes and what's important is the distance that is now much greater away from the bend giving you extreme leverage. Many times at work we come across obstacles we simply couldn't do unless we figure out a way to utilize leverage and then the impossible task becomes real easy. Great video.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Not enough space for leverage unfortunately and as the pinch welds bend they go flat on the body. This is one of those rare cases where brute force is the only effective option
@sixshooter4570
@sixshooter4570 3 жыл бұрын
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad I figured that room might be an issue however this would be used only to initiate the bend to a point where a hammer could then finish the job.

sixshooter4570 we did try it on the driver side with some players, but even with all my 210 pounds on it, there was no budging. Those pinch welds are thick and take a great deal of force to bend.

Your ripping fenders off. Sorry. But have to be honest man. Stock wheels are at 38 offset. The max most run with 12.5 is 0 offset. And they still touching but not rip fenders off, just touching. I ran 0 offset with 13.5 Nitto terra grapplers and basically came up right to the range of the stock fender. Popped off the fender trim a few times in o shit moments. With any form of negative offset your ripping off stock fenders and most aftermarket fenders too. Specially with -44mm. That’s almost 1.75 inches wider. If the tires go full tuck that’s ripping the fenders off and causing some damage.

Do you Recommend a catch can?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
I get asked this question a lot. For me jury is still out on catch cans. For the most part turbo engines are designed to burn a little bit of oil as part of their normal operation. Reducing how much gets burned is a good thing BUT there is no solid information out there on the actual benefits of a catch Can. I’ve seen more bad than good actually because it’s hard to distinguish between a well designed system and a bad one. At the end of the day, there is no solid info out there to show me the benefits aside from catching oil so it’s going to stay off my truck.

@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Catch cans catch a few tablespoons of oil a month that would normally flow into your intercooler. Why not? great insurance for 120 bucks.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
R OK, that’s what I hear everyone say. But even with a catch can you can’t avoid it all. And I’ve read other complain of catch cans causing codes or loosing power after installing at Catch can. Personally, I would rather not risk it. The companies that makes them for the most part are not engine builders or designers. Catch cans are easy to make and they copy designs and don’t do any proper testing. Differentiating between a well designed catch can and a bad one is also difficult. So I’m not taking the risk on my truck

@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Not really man. Once you fully flex that suspension, you will rip off the stock fenders. First truck I ever saw with 37s and the typical no rubbing attitude was a Gen1 and he ripped off his fenders at full tuck and caused some major damage to them.

Guaranteed you did. I felt it right off the bat and I even added the Cobb tune to compensate. Cobb tune helped at the low end. But on the high end power really dropped off and offroad I could not get my truck over 95 mph. Truck just did not have the power to pull away on the dry lake beds anymore. 37s need regearing and a tune to compensate. When I took mine back to 35s, it was a huge difference.
