Great video. Thanks so much! The ETA 251.262 quartz movement is really nice. I've been a manual wind and automatic person for life...but just bought a Victorinox Titanium 241261 Chronograph. Looks similar to an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, which I also own. I would say that the case and bracelet quality are about the same. The 251.262 movement is truly a well-made, quality, precision instrument. Very accurate and precise. The chronograph has many more functions than the Omega...including split time.

That's a fantastic skill to have. You're very talented. The movements do not come with useable hands - you can order them based on the calibre of the movement quite easily. The stem will have a plastic crown screwed on - you would need to replace it of course, they are usually Tap 9 stems. If the stem is too short for your project then you can obtain stem extensions. Hope this helps.

No this should not be a problem at all. These movements are designed to have a metal dial fitted to them, wether silver or brass it does not matter, you should be fine. Sounds like a great project :)

There are two catches which slide out opposite each other - these secure the dial. They are hinged so slide out to release - push back in to secure.

thanks for this detailed video. A few questions. 02:00 Just like winder, there are 2 other buttons/knobs. Don't you need to remove any thing before pulling caliber out? 03:23 what holds the dial to caliber? movement ring screws is it? 03:45 what are those 2 pins you are pushing? Thanks in advance

Thanks mate :) Nothing every goes to waste in this business -- some of the parts on the old movement are still useful. By the way - Cousins announced last year that ETA was going to stop supplying circuit boards for their quartz movements, you can still get them but they are officially showing as restricted. This makes me mad!

I'm no watchmaker, but experienced and tooled enough to be confident in swapping movements. The only ticklish things I run into are the stem and face removal. Seems the different makers have figured out an infinite number of ways to attach - and remove - both. Removal can be anything from screwing, to prying, to lifting, to depressing, pinching... etc. Once you know a certain model it's a cinch, but I've been known to remove the wrong thing on occasion.

May I ask if quartz modernish Rotarys like Elite are a bit poor in your opinion ? I worked out I need a Ronda 785 movement for faulty Elite, just getting no quartz pulse at all. I don't have a great watch collection but other than this watch work having owned most for decades - recently making even some really old ones work in the process. Like a really old Accurist in base metal fake gold (date at 3 and an alarm function lol) now works after some tinkering, and the rest of my odd collection, an Yves Renoir in base metal fake gold, fake Rolex Yacht master automatic, Swatch Torino 2006, Fiesta Bowl 1984 ( US watch!) and even a mechanical Molnija old CCCP wind up pocket watch. Makes me think Rotary are a bit crap.

This watch has an inexpensive movenent with a lot of slop. Getting the hollow extension (pinion)on the bottom of the hand to go over the tiny watch pinion has proven impossible for me so far. I got close using rodico as i could keep the hand parallel (impossible with tweezers), but the rodico pulled the hand back off. Ahhh. Any tricks or suggestions?

Would be useful to see a full strip down and rebuild of one of these now that ETA will soon stop supplying movements/parts. Like most ETAs the hands get sticky from lack of use and dried up oil. In those cases a splash of oil on the jewels/pivots usually frees them up without disassembly.

Swatch makes a unibody watch case, with no backplate. so it's impossible for you to access the movement. Thats why it's so expensive to repair a swatch. Bottom line, on SWATCH watches you can only change the battery yourself. the movement it's impossible to access

@nandutzu8 жыл бұрын
+Dragon Ma I thought exactly the same initially, but think about it a bit: in the cases you mentioned that was just the way they were assembled/set, in this case here the watch has been set almost perfectly(the date changes at exactly 12am). So it doesn't really matter how it was before.
@RJSoftware200010 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I can restore a quartz by soaking the movement in lighter fluid. Then take and dry it with hair dryer -low heat. What it sometimes does is free up the coagulated oil and allow the hands to turn. It does nothing to the chip or the dial and leaves no residue. But it does create the need to lubricate as it sucks up all the oil. Personally I don't even care to lube a quartz as by design it has near zero pivot wear. Disposable anyway. Do you ever grease the gasket and the o-ring of the stem? Sometimes it helps to make watch more water proof. Nice video, much appreciated. Btw, you sure do move fast...! (joke) RJ

Hello Mark!Why this movement has 27 jewels?Isn't too much for a quartz movement???
@douro206 жыл бұрын
Because every pivot is jewelled. These movements are a bit more complicated than the old Seiko ones from the early '80s which were also fully jewelled. This has five motors and a split seconds function whose gears are carried under their own bridge in the center. If I'm looking at the movement photos correctly there are seventeen jewels alone in the split seconds mechanism, which includes the two steppers and the pivots of all of the gears which transfer the motion to the two second hands.

Ok, I'm confused now. I've watched several of your great videos and I think you're an amazing watch repairman. Recently, I saw a video of yours where you said the date takes a couple hours to flip over, which is why you suggest not to use the rapid date change function between 9p and 3a. In THIS video, you advanced the time until the date changed and said that's now midnight. Why wouldn't the time be 1:23a (for example)?

Swiss movements tend to snap the date quite quickly where as Japanese movements may take several hours. Thats probably why you are being confused
