I bought a Honeywell Y6630D Wireless Room Thermostat, which only has a turn wheel type of dial on it, no fancy digital display or anything. So working out if it goes into the 230v connection or the eBUS connection wasnt as easy to work out as you might think :) Works fantastic now in, well worth the effort!

hi guys. guess what!... done mine and .....success. It works. We did it!!! we did it!!...I mean I did it. Really it was a piece of cake. The guys who made the boiler were so clever to fit the room thermostat connectors outside on the back of my boiler's control panel. it was so intuitive. had to check first anyway the boiler's electric diagram. I had a clue of what I'm doing but your video was so reassuring. thnx ultimatehandyman

@jamire3611 жыл бұрын
Excellent instructional video, I just installed one of these on a Ferroli combi boiler and the most difficult bit was fitting the trunking and drilling for the wall box! Very simple wiring even for a DIY enthusiast like myself. Prior to this we had no thermostat so were controlling the temperature in the house with thermostatic valves and by turning the boiler on and off which was hopeless! 3 days on we only have the boiler on half of the time and the temperature control is effortless. Top marks for the video, and chuffed to bits with my Honeywell Chronotherm unit. Always sceptical of the range of RF, but our transmitter unit is working fine 2 rooms away from the Relay box in an old house with solid stone walls. My only regret is not fitting it last year and reducing the amount I contribute to the profits of my gas supplier!

@9inety9 It's a CM921 so you can set it to automatically come at different times at specific temperatures throughout the day e.g. 0800 - 20ºc, 1130 - 16ºc 1830 - 21ºc 2330 - 15ºc and so on... The CM927 allows you to set different temperatures and times above but for every day of the week. If you just wanted a simple wireless stat without all the timing features then I would get the DT90E.

In my boiler the red link is not there. One of the two wires connecting the circulation pump is connected directly to the switch entry were the thermostat should be connected. I do have a timer already connected ahead of the boiler: is this the reason they may have changed the way the pump is connected? CAN I STILL CONNECT THE THEORMOSTAT THEY WAY IS SHOWN IN THE VIDEO?

My CH is quite a modern system with a combination boiler, motorised valves and TRVs on all the radiators. A Honeywell 9400c programmer controls the timing. There is a frost stat in the laundry room which is where the boiler is located and next to the kitchen so unlikely to freeze BUT there is no room thermostat anywhere in the house. Could I just remove the frost stat and replace it with the sender unit from a wireless room thermostat then place the thermostat itself in the living room?

@ultimatehandyman4 жыл бұрын
This will only set the temperature in the room where it is placed, once that room gets to the set temperature, it will not ask the boiler for more heat. You can either move the remote to one of the cooler rooms (which will mean that it will call for more heat), or perhaps adjust the radiators in the other rooms using the radiator valves. If you are struggling, just do a search for radiator balancing, that should help ;-) Thanks for the comment 👍

@subrjs11 жыл бұрын
Tinning wires fixed under screw terminals is not a good idea. When you tin a multistrand wire fully, the solder wicks between the strands of copper and forms a solid block, part of whose volume is metallic solder. When you clamp the solder and copper bundle you tighten the screw or clamp against the solder block, and in time the solder metal "creeps" under the compressive forces and the join loses tension. The wire can then either pull out or cause a high resistance connection with heating.

Excellent! I've just bought one of these for a Baxi 105 HE. Pity it has to be 30cm away from metal because I had intended on siting and wiring the receiver right next to the boiler's fused spur (which is very close to the boiler. Hi Great video. My old mum has just had a new central heating system installed (Ideal Logic 24 + combi boiler). Can you advise where the best place to but the wireless thermostat should be please? Some say in the hall (where the radiator has no TRV) others say put it in the room you live in most i.e. the lounge. I'd be grateful for any advice. Cheers
@ultimatehandyman10 жыл бұрын
Ours is in the living room, but most people put them in the hall. The beauty of these is that you can move it around with you, so you can set it to say 19 degrees when you have it in the lounge, then just press the down button till it gets to 17 degrees and move it to the bedroom when going to bed.
@eltel85477 жыл бұрын
I had the same system fitted 5 years ago. If you put the thermostat in the hallway, some way away from the non-trv radiator, it will work fine. Then you should be able to set the hallway temperature at, say, 16 to 18 C, and use the trv's for comfortable temperatures in the main rooms. You can then juggle with timings for best economy. The real advantage though, is that you can carry the thermostat around and close down the trv's in rooms you are not using. I find this saves me about £500 a year, with bedroom temperature 16°C at night and 21°C daytime (and 18°C is fine if I'm very active). If you do this, and the system was properly balanced, the hallway temperature should be about 16 to 18°C anyway. The milky white hot water is quite normal. Because the domestic hot water comes directly from the mains water inlet, It has lots of dissolved gasses and is at a fairly high pressure. Gas is less soluble in hotter water, so the milkyness is caused by lots of tiny bubbles as the pressure reduces and the temperature is raised. The only problems I have had were a faulty diverter valve and motor just outside warranty (expensive and annoying s), and the display fading after 4 years (expensive again.) But overall OK, so your mum should be very happy with it.

Thanks for the video. Its helpful. Just a quick question though. Do you connect the live supply for the reciever box from a fused spur first or all connections is taken from the boiler? Thanks
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
Sanni Salisu You are welcome It's often easier to take the supply from the boiler. (the boiler should be connected to a fused spur), so once the fused spur is switched off it isolates the boiler and the receiver. It's normally easier to wire that way as you have to wire the switching pair to the boiler anyway.

Normally the two switching wires just replace the link wire, as it is just a relay contact on the other end which closes to complete the circuit. Thanks for the comment 👍

Thanks for the video - very clear and Im glad I came across it as Im going to install one of these over the weekend. Just 2 quick questions if you dont mind - the instructions for the Thermostat say that you need to use 1.5 - 2.5mm2 core flex. Do you think its ok to use just use 0.75mm2 flex? Also, did you use the same cable type for both the power and the switching cables? Sorry if they sound like stupid questions!

hi there. great video i have one question - what setting does my manual switches on the boiler need to be in for this to work correctly? all in the "on" position? thanks
@ultimatehandyman10 жыл бұрын
Can't remember sorry, this was done years ago. You can soon test it though with the switch in different positions as the wireless thermostat will not control the boiler if the switch is in the incorrect position.

I have mine setup so you have boiler on heat temp middle around 60 degrees but how hot you want the boiler to heat the water up to is up to you but need it to go hotter than you want the house temp or it might take some time to get the house warm, the timer if it had one is not used now so set it to constantly on as the thermostat will take control now, but you did not say which switches you have on yours.
