9 years later... Thanks for this! About to embark on my first carpet tomorrow!

Thanks for this great video, I did one room a year ago with great success and am watching it again to remind me before doing another two rooms. I got the kit from B & Q which was cheaper than other shops and well worth it now I will use it for 3 rooms. Got my carpet cheap/free by buying off cuts / second hand. I could have paid £100s more to get the professionals to do it but I honestly think it looks great and was not that hard to do thanks to helpful tutorials like this. It's a shame so many comments are negative. It's a pretty simple job.

Carpeted a whole flat with the method on this video - is spot on. The only thing I would add is get a carpet edge cutter (which you can get from B and Q) and works really well.

Spent the morning laying carpet in the lads bedroom. I watched the videos as a refresher. Only comments is to not shuffle when wearing rubber soled slippers - they leave a mark!!! and to have lots of utility blades are they go dull fast. I didn't use a kit or a kicker, but used a bolster chisel and a stiff wide scraper. Came out really good.
@lukebanks28955 жыл бұрын
Terry so how did you stretch the carpet ?
@terry61315 жыл бұрын
@@lukebanks2895 I changed into shoes and shuffled / hopped with both feet into the edges and corners. It's not perhaps as stretched as it could have been with a kicker, however as the bedroom is small there is little visible carpet once the bed / cupboards / wardrobe etc have been put back. If I were planning on lots of carpet fitting I would now get a kicker - and knee pads
@japfan81613 жыл бұрын
Years time it'll all be lifted and creased as its not stretched right
@karl8103 жыл бұрын
@@japfan8161 not everyone has a spare £40+ quid for the tools, many moons ago I used the same shuffling method and it was more than enough to make it last for 4+ years atleast, aslong as you aren't regularly moving large items this is more than enough for a budget DIY job. It could also easily be restreched a few years later if the person gets some soare money or finds a friend with a stretcher.
@dwayne_dibley2 жыл бұрын
@@karl810indeed. The carpets I’m currently replacing were fitted by my father ~38 years ago. He didn’t use a kicker and they didn’t ripple in all that time despite having furniture dragged all over them. However I was given a kicker, plus they’re a lot less than £40 from uncle Jeffy B.

Doesn't the grippers go through the carpet.. which means the spikes are still there?
@bandq3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Tommy. Thanks for your question. The grippers go into the back of the carpet but they shouldn't appear through the top. If they come through the top, this suggests the carpet is thin or no underlay has been used. Hope that helps 😄
@emrankhanlearnwithme44742 жыл бұрын
Do you need contact adhesive spray?
@bandq2 жыл бұрын
Hi, this would only be required for the underlay and/or lining paper. For lining paper, you can use tape as an alternative. For the underlay, you can use a staple gun as an alternative. I hope this helps! 😊
@SoSo-li6dn3 жыл бұрын
can I do this method with felt back? I want to use underlay because its wobblt.
@bandq3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the carpet trimmer will cut felt backed carpet but it depends on the thickness of the carpet pile. E.g. you may have difficulty cutting a 12mm deep pile carpet. Hope this helps! 😊
