How to fit UPVC door handles that don’t quite fit

Sorry for the lack of uploads! This year has been incredibly busy, the tree that blew over in January took months to sort out, then I was swamped with site work! I still have some site work left to do, but I’m trying to squeeze the occasional video in. With a bit of luck, I’ll get time to edit the remainder of the kitchen fitting videos soon! This video was filmed in June 2024, and I’ve only just had time to edit it! I hope everyone has a great Sunday 😉

I'm in the process of doing this now . I've found that if you keep the spindle inserted before you drill it makes it more accurate . 4 done , 6 more to go . Sliding patio doors , front and side door . Thanks for the update

Welcome back. Educational. I'm from the States, didn't work on that type of lock until I took a Locksmith job in Africa.

@@ultimatehandyman It's a U S Military base that used to be French. So over the years it had French, Turkish, they apparently did some contract work, and now American lock sets over 20+ years. As you can imagine it can be "fun"

Thanks 👍 When I was looking, I could find patio door handles with the same hole centres, but not French door/UPVC door handles. I can’t believe there was no spring in them either 😱 Thanks for the comment 👍

Nice video. If I could add one small thing, when I change handles, I would fit the new handle with the spindle. That way I have the Euro Profile cylinder and the spindle located to keep the new handle straight for drilling. Good idea to use the hinge drill bit.

As someone that works at Screwfix I find that most peoples way of finding a replacement handle is to bring the old one in so we can compare them 😂

Great video, I'm looking to do this on my front upvc door. I need to drill 2 new holes for the new handle. How do I check that I'm not going to drill through something that will ruin the internal mechanisms, door lock etc? Thanks!

I'm afraid you'd have to remove the multi-point lock from the door to check. I removed one from this set of French doors a few years back- kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHank4V4Z5x5gaM&t

I have drilled a new hole (inside) and come up against something metal. Possibly part of the gearbox or locking mechanism. Is there a chance i could drill through it without issue? If not I'm going to end up with a rather unsightly hole in my door and be stuck with a knackered door handle 🙈

Probably a bad idea to drill through the metal! (I thought I mentioned this in the video) If it’s the gearbox and you drill through it, the chances are that it will not work properly afterwards.
