Drivers side AC would switch to heat by itself. Blend door actuator needs to be taken out and cleaned. I just used a paper towel and it has been working fine ever since.

Dude. Love your video, especially the analysis of the "fail safe design". Funny thing is my dealer told me I had to remove the entire dash board to replace this at a total P&L of $980. After watching your video, I pulled the actuator out and cleaned some grease from around the copper contacts. I put it back it and went through the "reset process" (disconnect battery and wait a few minutes, reconnect the battery; key on for 1 minute, key off for another minute, key back on for 1-2 minutes). My total cost was a single paper towel and a finger (and about 1 hour of labor). Thanks!

I just got hosed by a dealer! My sons car broke down at the bank less then a half mile from the dealer. We knew what the problem was but he was broken down in a bank parking lot! We had it towed to said dealer and all said and done $550 for tow and remanufactured starter! They will get you!!!! Wish it would have went down in my driveway so I coul have saved $450!

I have this issue in my 04 Silverado 1500, I tried pulling the hvac fuses as some other videos suggested but still having the issue. I came up with an easy and cheap solution, Simply unplug the blend door when the A/C is working and the blend door will stay in the A/C position. Plug it back in after summer when you need heat again. Hope this helps!

Omg you might just have saved me hundreds lol.. I just bought a 04 Chevy Tahoe for the family weekend trips and didn’t check if the AC worked 🤦♀️ and since we’re going on a trip soon I thought I this was going to have to replace the compressor because I just added a can of ac recharge or whatever it’s called lol but only the back ac was coming out cold and the front driver and passenger side was coming out a lil fresh then hot so after seeing this video and coming across your comment you both might just helped me out a lot!!! Hopefully this works just until I can replace them both. Thanks guys! I learned something new lol

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra Classic. I was having cold air on the passenger side and HEAT on the driver's side. Did the reset and it changed nothing. This helped me. Turn on your A/C to the highest blower setting and let it run 5 minutes, then dial up the heat leaving the blower in highest position for five minutes. this should resent your actuator to correctly blow hot or cold.

Thanks for the detailed info brother ! I've had this happening (going from cold to scalding hot on driver's side) just periodically, on my 2004 GMC Sierra, SLT, Z71 for two or three summers now. Nothing but shutting the truck's engine off and restarting will bring cool air back and since it wasn't too frequent and I could get it back every time, I just added it to my long list of things to do/fix. I've had many other priorities ahead of it unfortunately but since it started, I've researched it a little on line, here & there and talked to a few people and had mixed info everywhere. Well it's now moved high on the list as it has recently started doing it every 5 to 10 minutes !! Dark leather seats and 98 degrees with a 108 + heat index here in Eastern NC, with this happening frequently, ain't gonna work !!! What you said about the logic behind the design/fail safe does make good sense. Thanks again Sir.

I have a 2002 Tahoe LT model and this actuator seem to work all the front vents, driver and passenger side. I have taken it off now but haven't had time to clean it up. Just put a small pair of vise grips on the door to operator it. With nothing on it it would bang back when going around a corner and start throwing hot air again. Well that would be great if it were cold weather all day long. We been getting up to 60's in afternoon and it's to hot for that full heat coming from front vents. so yeah I guess the fail mode is heater on that blend door.

I lucked out big time. I was checking to see where the accuator was, and while the truck was running and blowing hot air, I tapped the accuator with the palm os my hand and presto, cold air started coming. Probably not permanent but probably dirty inside the actuator.

First try antioxidant on the connector then try just unplug it when it gets where you want ○ Gentle tapping on the drive housing while jiggling the wires then if that not works should be able to get it off with a quarter inch drive socket & squiggly wiggle u-joint they make for those then just set it manually a few times a year

Automakers need to "RETHINK" how many people are having the same kind of issues with these same crappy parts in cars... This is ridiculous! Stay away from overhead cam motors in cars too! Unless you like bicycle chains in your motors. The chains are supposed to hold the all the extra parts together - but they don't last long enough!
