Replacing the Driver Side Blend Door Actuator (ACDELCO 1572972) and reseting the blend doors for the front A/C system. My A/C was stuck on just hot but this repair restored hot/cold functionality to my driver side through the climate controls. At the end of this video I show you how to do a full HVAC recalibration reset on your front A/C blend doors.
The part I used ACDELCO 1572972 (Driver side, blend door, temp, hot/cold) --- amzn.to/31oVcsS
ACDELCO 1573044 (Driver side, mode) --- amzn.to/2YJMXpz
ACDELCO 1572972 (Driver side, defroster) --- amzn.to/31oVcsS
The equipment I use to make videos:
(Camera) Cannon Vixia HF R700 --- amzn.to/2FSoBTn
(Microphone) Rode VideoMic --- amzn.to/2XcNOSa

I understand about resetting the system. But if the old actuator was bad and you replace it with a new one, the position of the door is not in the same relative position as the new actuator. The actuator also has a limited travel distance between hot and cold. How do you know how much to open or close the vent to line up with the new actuator?

The videos on KZbin were extremely helpful with this project. I estimate it saved me half a day in trying to figure out disassembly for access. The replacement actuator I used was found on Amazon, and it required that I open the case to realign the gear to match the the default (hot) position of the shaft connection. When I got it right the actuator practically fell in place. Calibration went without issue. Not a pleasant job to do, but I got a quote of over $1,000.00 from a local shop to do this job. That’s a lot of incentive.

Thank you brother. I have a 2002 Trailblazer and your video saved me $$$$$. For a while I thought I could get away with just blowing the AC through the passenger side vents but in Arizona that's not enough. I'm a larger old guy so it was a challenge for me getting up under there, but I was able to do it in about an hour and a half. That top mounting screw for the actuator was the toughest one to get to. I didn't have to calibrate it either. So now my Trailblazer gets so cold it may start snowing inside. Thanks again!!!

How did you get to the screw on the actuator? Do I have to really pull the entire dash?

This actuator is relatively easy to replace. The one that controls face/feet direction of air is what you need to worry about on an 02 trailblazer. That actuator is tough enough to reach, but often the mechanism that actuator moves is broken, which requires entire dash removal to replace. GM improved this design flaw in 03. All these TB's are known for actuator failure, which is often caused by disconnecting the battery. The actuators break when cycling upon reset when battery is reconnected. Always use a backup power supply when changing battery!!!!

Two days ago, I replaced the Mode Actuator and the Blend door Actuators, I am glad I found this video, where you stated, you had to reset the system several times, I was just about to dig into my dash on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer again, when I saw the end of this video, so I went out and the reset again and my AC system is working as it should, whew that was close. I thank you for your efforts to help us out.

When you put the actuator back on the white post may not line up with the new actuator. What you have to do is snap off the top and take off the little white gear, position the actuator (I used a garden kneeler for my knees and rested on the top part of my left shoulder. Inside the car) and put the screws in then replace the white gear and snap the top back on. If your gear post is not lined up with the hole you cannot install this. This is only way to do it! I replaced ours and now I have cold air on the driver side. Thank you so much for your video. I wish you had included the part about the gear post not lining up with the white hole. I’m sure it does not lineup for most people. Oh when you takeoff the top white gear you can then move the black gear to approximately the correct position. You have to look at the white post and see if it’s going straight, sideways, or what. Once you replace the white gear you cannot change the position of the black gear which must match the post! I’m a fix 56 year-old lady and yes I’m a tomboy but I don’t do many things like this and I fixed my air-conditioning today.

This video is great except for the 2005’s they stuck an extra plate into that access that prevents people from accessing the top screw. You have to dismantle the entire dash. GM engineers suck. They want you to bring it in to a shop so they can charge you bookoo bucks. Shitty world

It wasn’t hard if you know your way around cars. But it’s a lot of extra work just to access that top little screw. Versus accessing it through that area on the 02’s. We’re talking 30 min job maybe - extra hour or more.

What is the difference between the different actuators that look exactly the same, but have a different part number? The original part that was in mine at that location had the number GM 16164972. There is a ACDelco part (1573598) (GM 89018676) that looks exactly the same (and I do mean exactly) but it is half the price of the part you are saying about. What is different between them?

every video and instruction i have seen said to pull fuse 39, its labeled "b" and its 10 amps, you said it was for the rear. the one you pulled was number 44 and was a 30 amp fuse. 30 amps for that control unit in the dash is over kill, right? maybe you got it working, i dont know, it seems like you did, but you also said you thought you had it before and it stopped working so you decided to calibrate it, but you pulled the wrong fuse. i am confused how you had success. when you pull the "b" fuse and turn the key on and DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE CONTROL UNIT. you should hear and fear the actuators moving the doors and re routing the air flow.
@savorwithdmurph1113
@savorwithdmurph1113 5 жыл бұрын
The fuses are all the amps that GM recommends on their fuse cover. What I did works as my actuators are all working great. I've fixed three actuators before and can tell you that much. When you pull a fuse and put it back in you'll hear the actuators whirring that the fuse effects. That one worked for me. Nothing to debunk here and there may be multiple methods to resetting actuators.

@@savorwithdmurph1113 i watched the full video btw and thanks for the quick response!!. last summer i dealt with these actuators on a newer trailblazer so i was watching videos to freshen up on the theory of operation as i have another trailblazer with some hvac issues with those pesky actuators . i came back inside, as i was just outside looking at my system again to document my observations and saw your response. i tried your method and i pulled fuse #44 which is 30 amps and did not trigger a re-calibrate process, then i moved onto fuse #39 labeled "hvac b" and this worked for the re-calibration process. i googled fuse 44 and it seems to be for the blower moter, which explains the high amperage fuse, but i wont be going out again tonight to confirm. sounds like your actuator was dead since it was stuck on heat. did you confirm no movement before replacement? perhaps that is why just putting in a new one worked? my driver side seems to be about 15 degrees warmer than the passenger side. i got visual confirmation of movement on both driver and passenger side actuaators when i slide the temp sliders up and down, and i can control the temps of both sides, but i cant confirm the proper amount of movement of the driver side as i didnt take anything apart to look for that splined shaft to move, i just peeked under there and saw it moving some. good times

I just pulled my fuse 44 to get to the bottom of this and it reset my front actuator. My trailblazer is a 2002 LT EXT so it may be that the process is different from your model? My actuator was about to go dead and was slightly moving with only hot air. I replaced the actuator and it still didn't work so I had to reset it three times by pulling fuse 44 before it worked properly. Fuse 39 also resets the front actuators. I hope your repair goes well. These cars have complicated systems and can be quite different.

Hi Robert - what exactly is the default position for the white post? I put it back in to roughly same position it was in when I took out the old actuator (the white thing was still attached) and installed but it still makes a clicking sound - much better though, now it makes a brief clicking sound when I turn the car on but mostly goes away. I think I’m just a bit misaligned.

@@fairkim1234 Not sure, I just winged it until it fit on. My GF has reported the same thing though, occasional short term clicking, but much better as it was incessant before. I researched it and found that there is a calibration process which i haven't tried yet. As my vehicle is a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee it wouldn't work with a Chevy. Also, it was mentioned in the Jeep forums that you can do a diagnostic scan to check and also that the Jeep dealer was contacted and wanted 100.00 to "reprogram" the actuator. Here is the Jeep calibration process just in case you may have a jeep too and the url to the forum. Good luck. www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/hvac-actuator-calibration-test-3358978/ 1. Turn the ignition to the ON position. 2. Turn the blower motor control to the OFF position. 3. Press and hold the EBL rear window defrost switch down and turn the blower motor control on. Continue to hold the EBL switch down until the EBL (Electronic back light) status indicator begins flashing, then release the mode switch. While the test / function is running the EBL status indicator will flash once per second. If the test / function passes, the EBL status indicator will stop flashing. If the test / function fail, the A/C and EBL status indicators will flash alternately.

The first thing to look for is you should have a rear switch to control what the passengers can access from their A/C console. This should be to your right near your armrest. Have you checked what setting this is on? I would imagine that you could use this to lock out the passenger control. I read this in a post online. "You should have a knob just to the left of the gear shifter that has R, 0, 1, 2, and 3 on it. This allows you to control the fan speed of the rear HVAC from the front. To grant controls to the rear, the knob has to be set to R. Hope that helps some." forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=68613

Just checking, your passenger and rear vents are hot as well when set on cold? Also has the battery been unplugged recently? There is a process to reset your A/C actuators. I would try that and see what happens. You pull all of your HVAC fuses in the rear fuse box wait 15 seconds put them back in. Then turn on your car wait for the actuators to adjust (you'll hear them whirring) once they stop adjust your dials and see if you get cold air. Then turn your car off and on to see if the system reset. Sometimes this needs to be done 2-3 times. If your actuators need to be reset, the A/C will blow cold air when you turn your car on for the first time. In this video I discuss resetting the HVAC system in more detail at 5:05. You'll need to pull the 3 at the bottom of the fuse box. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5eXaHqwZ9ybfJI

This is passenger side temp controls correct? Start with checking all your HVAC fuses behind the mid row seats. Then do an actuator reset (similar to what I do in this video but pull all fuses). If the actuator is dead it will not adjust. If the issue is wiring/temp gauge controls then the actuator may reset but not move when temp controls are adjusted. It would be helpful to have someone else turn on the cars power so you can listen for the passenger side actuator to see if it moves or not.

Hello Alex, that sounds like your having issues with your driver side mode actuator. It’s up in the top area (I briefly show it’s location in this video) closest to the instrument panel. There’s another actuator next to it, closer to the engine, and that is defrost. The mode actuator directs air to the face or to the floor. Yours may be stuck on the floor setting. The good news is that it costs half as much as the temperature actuator and is easier to get to. I think I have a link to it in my description. I’ll send you a link later this evening to a diagram for location.

Original owner of an '08 TB. Just replaced the driver blend door actuator. Thanks for the video as it really helped. The issue I had was that by '08, the geniuses at GM changed that heavy bracket you put your hand through to get the actuator top bolt. On mine, the bracket is solid so it must be removed. It took me about an hour to figure out how and then remove it. That bracket was the hardest part of the job. I didn't have to reset the actuator as it worked from the start and still works great. It's a shame GM made owner repairs so challenging due to interior dash designs that are ridiculous to work with.

It’s the most upper top actuator for that problem. Each one has a dedicated function. Sometimes you can get away with just unplugging it and adjusting it. Afterwards it could start working, unless faulty. Unplugging the battery really throws these actuators off.

My 02 GMC Envoy XL has a tapping when the AC is turned on. Originally I had no AC on the Drivers side but AC on the Passenger side and when using the Defrost I had the opposite, Defrost on the Drivers side but not on the Passenger side. Now my AC isn't working at all. It still tics and blows air only no Cold Air. Could troubleshooting which Actuator is out and replacing it possibly get my AC back or should I take it to the shop to have the AC tested. I live in Florida and while I can live without the AC I'd rather not when I have my grand kids in the vehicle. BTW, I found your video very helpful and inspiring. Since you had ticking and no cold on the driver side it could be the hot/cold blend actuator that went out. The ticking is the gear inside the actuator being stripped which eventually leads to failure. The way to test is give the car power (don't turn it on all the way) and move the driver temp control through the range a time or two. You should hear a soft whirring noise coming from the driver side as the actuator adjusts (this works for all other actuators as well). If there is no noise, adjusting your actuator isn't moving the vent fans. Since the passenger side isn't cold either that concerns me that you may have a double fail on hot/cold actuators (there is one on the passenger side as well) or that the cold isn't working anymore which is another troubleshooting procedure. Test those actuators and go from there.

With the key giving the car power but the engine off you can adjust the temperature dial and you’ll hear it move. You can also do a visual inspection if you take all the panels off. @savorwithdmurph1113
@savorwithdmurph1113 5 жыл бұрын
That is an actuator starting to wear out. The actuator begins to lose track of when to stop rotating and the motor continues working when the gear attached to your AC vent can’t move anymore. So the gear teeth inside the actuator skip or break causing the clicking.
@robanderson4137
@robanderson4137 5 жыл бұрын
There are several plastic gears inside the actuators. The main drive gear tends to split causing a gap in the teeth. The clicking sound is the gear slipping where it meets up with the split in the gear.
