Thank you so much! Well explained and just what I needed. I could buy a new one...but fixing things is so much more satisfying! I found this process very much like truing a wheel via spoke tightening. Takes a little while, and you end up having to fix 3 spots when you thought it was one spot. But a little patience and small corrections goes a long way.

Thank you thank you, that what I did, I keep observing then I start to bend, and thank you for making it so clear that it won’t get back like new, thank you!!!

Thank you so much! I definitely have this probably. Could this be the reason it squeaks as well?

Haha - mine did. The annoying noise prompted me to look this up!

This happened to me and the caliper almost stopped working entirely... I can easily squeeze the handle to the bars.. is this a easy fix??
@willsherman35277 жыл бұрын
great simple explanation, exactly my problem
@Dana57756 жыл бұрын
I have done this but I have also used vice clamps on steel frames with heat and cold. Bend it the best you can then heat to red hot and clamp to straight steal table cooling by spraying cold water to quench wait for it to cool. It will not be like a new one but you will be able to tighten your disc caliper closer to the rotor with less chatter and still stop well.
@Crayma8006 жыл бұрын
Dana Putnam I'm no blacksmith or engineer, but my understanding is that heating until red hot can cause stress to the metal and weaken it - causing potentially serious injury!!

is it bad if it's bent very slightly and makes a squeak when turning? should i be worried or is it just a small thing that doesn't matter to much?

Mine was the same and pissed me off no end. A pain in the arse

Thanks! Today I was successfully straighten my rotor. No more rubs :D

Just the video I was after. Slight rub on mine just needs bending out rather than replace. Thanks for the video.
@BreceLuu5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I was able to fix it in a few minutes. It works flawlessly again.
@thomasdrawert95682 жыл бұрын
Probably a dumb thing to say but could you use multiple g clamps and tighten them slowly against a wooden block or flat surface to straighten them again. (Obviously after removing the brake disc from the hub)
@AK-oz4ew Жыл бұрын
Bent rotor will act like a spring. Clamping will not fix it, you need to bend it back past zero degree to bend it back

Just bought a new BMC Roadmachine. Front disc rubbing in one spot. Figured it would go away after a few rides. It's not. Watched a video on loosening the caliper, squeezing the lever, and retightening the caliper. Didn't work. This is when I noticed the heavily warped rotor. Just ordered a new one. Should've watched this video first. Didn't think it was possible to bend a rotor back into place.
@ziparis5 жыл бұрын
Thank you - yes, not "perfect" but the annoying "zip--zip--zip" noise coming from the rear rotor every time the bend passed through the brakes is now gone :)

Im trying to buy one dh bike but the guy selling it said the back rotor is bent but there is no bend in the rotor but its still rubing like the break is constantly pressing on the rotor so im thinking mby he pressed the breaks while he took off the back wheel and it presed the piston in too far and when he put the wheel back in it started rubbing because the breaks work normaly everything feals good still breaks just like the break is slightly presed in but he gurantees the rotor is bent but thats good for me because i can lower the price down and fix it for free xd if thats the case

OK I unbent it but now my front brake is so bad when I click it. it does not let me do a stoppie like it used too. when I click the front brake hard or just click it. the thing behind the brake pads are these green things the brake pads and I think before they were both working but now when I click it only one had moved into the rotor the other green brake pad does nothing plz help.
@danielsvancara7 жыл бұрын
i just swapped my back brakes with my front and i tighted a allin key screw on my brake caliper to make the brakes pads closer to make it harder to press the brake to have more power/harder to pull to stop faster.

I did it with hands. I was lucky, it was just slightly bent. Car pushed me out of road, that's only part damaged in crush, besides bruises and very little scratched paint. I solve that issue without police on spot, fix bike + $$ from driver.
