The Madone, I really really REALLY love the water bottle cages. Hot damn that is sexy with it not being tied to the bike or proprietary bottle. Might have to get a couple for my bike if they are coming out soon and have a reasonably priced option. I agree that this is supposed to be an all-rounder used for any race condition. Predicted it all the way back when it was first leaked and everyone was up in arms about it being an Emonda. And love how they aren't going ultra crazy with any one thing in particular, just a full paint job on every bike. Another thing I give Trek props for is, (blinged-out) bikes for all players! I absolutely hate it when they only have one or two bikes for the key players and left everyone else on the same bland bike as before. I love that Trek is digging all-in on this ethos with them being a main title sponsor. The new Pinarello, you are scaring me out with how low that BB is compared to the structure. That scene of an exploded BB at the start of a MTB race is still not out of my memory. Canyon and Wilier, no comment. What's up with that thing around the bottom tubes though? Never noticed it until now and it is on every bike shown. I also like that bike stand thing shown for the Trek bike.

Downcounty are just 2018 2019 short travel trail bikes. Maybe a bit slacker. Don’t get me wrong I built they are way more fun on mild trails. But pretty darn close to 6 year old ST trail bikes as trail bikes that have gone to 120-130 travel to 140-150. The Lux trail is basically my ‘19 trek fuel 122 rear 130 34 performance elite with a 10mm head angle spacer I’ve been riding for a few years. Geos super close

The emonda was one of the very few iconic, timeless designs. "Aaaaand it's gone". A la south park. Nobody but trek ever considered it made sense to shape the seat post like that. In fact there's every reason not to. Sad day for the emonda.

there really arent any light weight bikes anymore.. my 2016 emonda slr8 came in at 5.5 kg stock with aluminium wheels... and this wasnt even a top of the line model. so it makes sense that they are getting rid of emonda and just calling it madone. emonda has not been light weight for since 2nd gen.
@cdeluise
@cdeluise Сағат бұрын
I don't think 5.5KG is accurate for your '16 Emonda SLR 8. Though, the frame & fork weight are extremely light (690G frame). For reference my '19 Tarmac Ultra Light has a very similar frame & fork weight, with complete bikes under 6.3KG/14 Pounds. I enjoy a light weight bike in the mountains!

The Last Celos and Arc8 Evolve FS are even better examples of DH-inspired geo trickling down to XC-weight frames (<1.8kg). These short travel bikes have geo that fit the downcountry description, but have questionable XC pedigree: Transiition Spur, NS Synonym, Rocky Element, Trek Top Fuel, YT Izzo. These XC bikes might fit, if you fit on size XL: Intense Sniper, Spesh Epic Evo, BMC Fourstroke, Allied Cycleworks BC40, Canyon Lux, Pivot Mach 4, Fezzari Signal Peak, Giant Anthem, Banshee Phantom, Norco Revolver. Basically, wheelbase length is the single most important geo figure that makes XC bikes feel more DH-worthy. ~1230mm is where a lot of trail-friendly Enduro bikes sit.
@Varaxis
@Varaxis 2 сағат бұрын
I'll add that chainstay length imbalances can ruin bikes with long wheelbases. They need to be proportional. A 430mm CS might seem okay with a 1190mm WB, but it's going to effectively kill the ride of a bike with a WB exceeding 1230mm, making the front wheel too lofty. This is especially true for XC riders who are used to the front wheel being more glued to the ground from an even shorter WB with 430-450mm CS lengths. There are "sweet spots", that get the CS as short as possible, up until the point that the ride starts becoming even worse, but these numbers are personal due to riding styles and body types--425CS|1190WB, 430|1210, 435|1230, 440|1250 are my sweet spots. Someone taller and heavier than me (I'm 5'7", 140 lbs), or someone who rides with their position more rearward, would want a slightly longer CS. I also ride the same tires front and rear. A grippier front tire is a must if you go with a CS length on the shorter side for you. Bikes are sensitive enough to this effect to feel great in one size, but a bit off in the next size up, making the front feel much easier to wash out. The Arc8 bikes are especially prone to this, as their sweet spots are in their smaller sizes. Can feel this effect on the XL-sized Spur, Top Fuel, and Element too. The Izzo has a CS length that increases between L and XL, mitigating this effect. The new Yeti ASR also tunes CS length per size.

How they designed the 2025 Madone: Step 1. Design the 2025 Emonda Step 2. Report absolutely terrible financials and say that you need a 40% reduction in SKUs Step 3. Scratch out Emonda, and write Madone over the top. They got completely surprised by the bullwhip effect in their supply chain after the COVID surge and now they're in pure reaction mode.

@@SamuelBlackMetalRider they ride whatever the sponsor requires them to ride so said sponsor can later sell that to amateurs :) Making money is way more important than delivering the fastest tech possible. Of course the differences ain't that big so a monster like Tadej will win anyway. Heck I can bet he would win the Giro on a 1990's retro bike with a 8 speed Shimano 105 with the legs he has ;D Wide tires are forced upon because the disc brake requires wide stuff, ain't no secret to that lol. The whole era of discs in road bikes is nothing more than an awesome idea to make tons of money - from a pure racing perspective it's utter garbage and rides like absolute trash. You pick up a top end bike from 2018 and you won't ever want to ride a disc brake one again. Cheers.

Manufacturers offering retro-fit upgrades ? Has it ever happened ? Seems pretty unlikely - I'm guessing frames are made in batches by sub-contractors and 'when they're done , they're done' and on to next years hotness with a 0.5' slacker head angle and BNG.

Ima toss the YT Izzo in the mix. 130 front and rear with a 66/66.5 degree headtube and the Uncaged version is a full 120mm Ohlins build on the same frame. $2k+ gets you on the bike and movin so you can't go wrong with that.
