Thanks for the cool run down on how to replace a head gasket. I love the editing and quick points of reference. Great job!!! One thing I like to do when I remove the EGR valve is making sure all the ports are cleaned. These eras Honda's are prone to clogging. A simple thing to do for sure and will save you a big headache especially in California with our smog emissions.

Just wanna say thank you for making this video and making us all feel like we can do this job just with confidence and patients. For one I am just a backyard mechanic and wanting to learn as much as possible about cars because it's my passion. Well recently my head gasket went out on my beloved 01 Honda civic ex and felt horrible the past 3 days how am I gonna fix it without going to a mechanic because I don't trust mechanic' s and this video gave me full confidence . I've already been needing to change my timing belt and water pump but that's the only part that scares me because if I lose my time on engine I could fuck it up, now I have worked around the timing belt as in fixing cam sensors but never touching the belt it's self. I might also make a video for everyone that is new to doing this also but if you have any tips on timing belt and water pump subject I would very appreciate! But in all respect thank you for building everyone up and making this video !

Jared Boswell the only head gasket bandaid I ever found that was worth half the trouble was mendtite at Oriellys. Tried it for a client because they didn’t want to spend the money to fix it and it actually worked as long as you follow the instructions exactly. But it’s 1000 times better to just fix the head gasket I’m thankful that you found value in my video 😁

I’m really scared to ruin the motor, mine looks just like yours, deck is clean but those black rings on the cylinder rings are are super hard. I like you didn’t use sand paper or other aggressive methods. Can you please explain the process with then gasket remover, plastic scrape and brush? BIG THANKS!
@Aurum_AutoCare
@Aurum_AutoCare 4 жыл бұрын
I was very generous on the gasket remover I even let it sit over night. I used a bunch of plastic scrapers. If I were to do it again though. (Will be doing it to my sohc Subaru Legacy here shortly) I would take a 3m Rolex bristle. Idk how soon you need it but this is what all my shop friends use on aluminum and they love it! Just make sure to keep the speed of drill or grinder low and don’t keep it on one spot. The cam pulley is almost imposible to turn by hand. I can use the bolt but I’m sure I will mess with the torque. I only rotated it before removal from the crank pulley to put it I TDC. I guess this is normal? I did t know the timing belt was under such tight pressure.

What symptoms did you have for blown head gasket
@Aurum_AutoCare
@Aurum_AutoCare 5 жыл бұрын
Jeff Sigmon mild symptoms are your car overheating. Kinda like a bad thermostat and your coolant overflow tank bubbling or when you try to bleed out air using a funnel it bubbles non stop. Very bad symptoms are when your coolant and oil mix and make a chocolate milkshake look into your oil

All good but the crankshaft is marked to rotate counterclockwise on these models of Honda Civic. :/ So you would rotate counter-clockwise. (Counter-clockwise for 1.7L engines). It's clockwise on the 1.8Ls which are the newer models than this one. Then double-check all the markings.

Quick question, is the harmonic balancer bolt reversed? I'm having hell with it...
@Aurum_AutoCare
@Aurum_AutoCare 6 жыл бұрын
Shannon Damron it is a regular thread. How Honda designed it, the bolt tightens the longer it’s on there. This is the hardest part of the job believe it or not lol it’s not fun but take a Honda harmonic bolt tool and use a couple breaker bars get an extension for the bolt put the extension part on a jack stand and turn it. It is a bitch but you could use a Milwaukee m18 fuel 1/2” impact gun that will definitely take that off no problem
