Thanks for the cool run down on how to replace a head gasket. I love the editing and quick points of reference. Great job!!! One thing I like to do when I remove the EGR valve is making sure all the ports are cleaned. These eras Honda's are prone to clogging. A simple thing to do for sure and will save you a big headache especially in California with our smog emissions.

Just wanna say thank you for making this video and making us all feel like we can do this job just with confidence and patients. For one I am just a backyard mechanic and wanting to learn as much as possible about cars because it's my passion. Well recently my head gasket went out on my beloved 01 Honda civic ex and felt horrible the past 3 days how am I gonna fix it without going to a mechanic because I don't trust mechanic' s and this video gave me full confidence . I've already been needing to change my timing belt and water pump but that's the only part that scares me because if I lose my time on engine I could fuck it up, now I have worked around the timing belt as in fixing cam sensors but never touching the belt it's self. I might also make a video for everyone that is new to doing this also but if you have any tips on timing belt and water pump subject I would very appreciate! But in all respect thank you for building everyone up and making this video !

I was very generous on the gasket remover I even let it sit over night. I used a bunch of plastic scrapers. If I were to do it again though. (Will be doing it to my sohc Subaru Legacy here shortly) I would take a 3m Rolex bristle. Idk how soon you need it but this is what all my shop friends use on aluminum and they love it! if you dont have a cel and your car lags or bogs it could me your egr valve, it could be stuck close, i was replacing the gasket for mine awhile back and my car would die if i didnt press on the gas, pulled it back out and there was a tiny rock stuck in there lol or it could be your cam sensor if it is a cel, i hope this helps!

Mod Cars Daily how many hours did you put into it?
@Aurum_AutoCare7 жыл бұрын
Lil-Locz of course I'll be happy to answer your questions here! Honestly I took my sweet time with it. It took me about 30-40 hours because I had to record and I cleaned off every part that I took off, but there are some people that I know that can get in done in two days. So it really depends on you. But I say slow and steady wins this race. But just hmu on here if u have questions!!!

_Ketosucks honestly if you follow this video to the t as well as read the comments you can easily do this. All it takes is some time

All good but the crankshaft is marked to rotate counterclockwise on these models of Honda Civic. :/ So you would rotate counter-clockwise. (Counter-clockwise for 1.7L engines). It's clockwise on the 1.8Ls which are the newer models than this one. Then double-check all the markings.
@juniormorales5596 жыл бұрын
I thought it was counter clockwise on this car for the timing? Am i wrong
@Aurum_AutoCare6 жыл бұрын
ILLGoThere4You as long as the timing is perfect you can go either way. It’s just the rotation when the engine is running
@juniormorales5596 жыл бұрын
Mod Cars Daily ok i want to do this myself but im afraid lol ill give it a shot

I been messing with my damn 2003 Honda civic LX, it jumped teeth on the timing and looks like I need to pull the head to check for bent valves but everything is already apart, valve cover, timing belt, PS pump belt and alternator.

Beats Bang ooo I pray that everything turns out in your favor! The head bolts will be hard to remove so use a 6 point socket

Quick question, is the harmonic balancer bolt reversed? I'm having hell with it...
@Aurum_AutoCare6 жыл бұрын
Shannon Damron it is a regular thread. How Honda designed it, the bolt tightens the longer it’s on there. This is the hardest part of the job believe it or not lol it’s not fun but take a Honda harmonic bolt tool and use a couple breaker bars get an extension for the bolt put the extension part on a jack stand and turn it. It is a bitch but you could use a Milwaukee m18 fuel 1/2” impact gun that will definitely take that off no problem
