How to fix a boat starter and proppeller

Grade 8 are no good used them on my alternator on my boat n they snap off everytime so I'm now using some metrics bolts which is super strong n that solve my problem. .

Mine had a mounting screw on the back end of the starter that bolted to the engine block,mine was full of rust,not sure whare the water is getting in?

Is that a Volvo penta 3.0. If so where did you get your stater I cant find one. If my bolts are hard to unscrew should I be worried they will break when I try to unscrew them

i believe i got the starter through my mechanic. it was years ago but he normally ordered everything for me and i would install it at his shop. as for the bolts, if they are hars to unscrew i would suggest being gentle but you will lighly need a breaker bar as they are tight. the threads themselves will lock themselves in and stretch themselves when they are tightened down originally.

I have problems with the starter in a Volvo Penta OMC 5.0 V8, it breaks the bendix, change the starter starter that has a squeak that is not normal. This happened to someone? Thanks

please use a few drops of LOCT TIGHT on the threads and they will not come out again..also check your motor mounts..replace them when ever you remove the motor ...I do not care what the motor mounts look or feel like replace them.

You know you dont have to pull motor to get that stud out....use a mirror and weld a nut on it....or a reverse drill bit with a right angle drill

Pro charger makes a slick bolt on super charger for that boat.

So you’re telling me I can’t remove the starter without pulling the whole frickin engine?!

not exactly. In my case, one of the starter bolts broke off inside the engine block and was required to be tapped out. the only way to get the drill equipment with the capabilities to reverse thread the screw and remove it was to take out the engine. In most cases(as long as the bolt is not broken off) you can remove the starter simply without having to do any extra work.
