My MTD riding lawn mower was flooding with gas. I now know how I could've fixed it. But what I did, was to buy a replacement carburetor for $21 plus $6 shipping, and w/ a new universal gas filter, I got my mower going again. Better than ever. Easy starting now!

Steve, I just wanted to say thank you one more time. Just yesterday, my oldest son was telling me how frustrated he is with his newly acquired used lawnmower. It's a Briggs engine, and it hasn't run correctly since right after he got it. So, I pulled the top yesterday afternoon and first thing I saw was the coil contacts were 100% corroded. So were the contact points on the flywheel. I cleaned them off, checked the spark plug and got a good hot spark. The engine would not start at all. We found that it was missing the vacuum tube and replaced it. Still wouldn't start. We, then, pulled the carb. square style and cleaned it. I was super-duper two beer careful in handling the needle jet and put it back together. Pumped the primer bulb, pulled the cord twice, and voilà! For about 20 seconds... Gas started pouring out of the carb and primer bulb. I had forgotten to double-check the seat. I racked my brain, trying to figure out what I was missing. I pulled the carb back down and double-checked the needle jet and checked the ports and blew the ports again as a precaution. I would bet money, I blew out the seat and didn't even realize it. THANK YOU! I now know where to look and what to do once again thanks to you Steve... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Had a B&S, 15.5 h.p. on my tractor. Was doing the same thing. Only difference was the seat was a metal cup and the needle had a rubber tip. Had to use a screw to pull out the seat, but you're right, a cheap and easy fix.

Your videos are the best and very informative. Your video helped with leaking gas from carburetor, replaced needle and seat on carburetor for a Briggs and Stratton engine although float seemed not perfectly level it fixed leak. Lawnmower start fine after priming. I still have an issue were I have to prime every time I start it even if it's running for a while.

Steve, you are the man. I watched a bunch of other KZbin clips before I found this one that exactly described the problem I had with gas freely flowing out of the carburetor on my Honda HR21 lawnmower that has a carb very similar like the one you showed here. Removing the bowl, float and needle and cleaning them up fixed the problem. The only thing I would add is that I did not have to remove the entire carburetor. I dropped the bowl, float and needle off while the carb was still attached. If needed, you can lean the mower on its side to help see what is going on. After cleaning and putting the parts back on, the mower fired right up and no more gas leak. The whole fix from start to finish took less than thirty minutes. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much, I fixed my carb! Problem in mine was that it was sitting there with no gas for 2 years. Some of the gum actually dried up and got between the needle and the rubber seal. Overhauled the carb with totally cleanup And did the leak test as you showed while the carb was still out. Perfect, no more gas leak. And powered up on first pull!!! 😁😎👍👍👍

I know these videos are more for the homeowner but I have a tool made by tecumseh to install and remove seats. 20 dollars on eBay. They work like a charm. They don't work on some briggs carbs for installing because some of the briggs use smaller seats but it will remove them. It has almost like a small crochet hook on the end. Great tool. Again I know this is more for a home owner that doesn't have a need to buy these tools but they are worth it for a mechanic. I also like to put a little oil around the seat when sliding them in. I find on some of the stubborn ones where the aluminum carb body has swollen over the years it helps it like right in. Then a little carb clean washes the oil off

Great video. By installing the new needle and seat, it fixed my problem. Also, changed the air filter gasket and O-rings on carb. Sprayed the carburator with carb cleaner. To insert the rubber seat, I used a wooden dowel of the same diameter. Thanks again. Beer = Landshark My leaky carb is now fixed. My next problem is, every time I tilt my beer bottle it leaks. I may require another video. Cheers.

Usually I do maintenance at work where we have big vices and all of the tools handy to the benches in the sheds. Today I was able to have a cold beer at my own home while I replaced the blades on my Briggs and Stratton. By chance and good fortune I had a TWO SUNS carton delivered last week. Took the bowl off and removed the float to inspect the needle and seat it all look fine. But it back together and it stopped the leak. I guess the float was just stuck in the down position. I just do a month blow test on the carb shut off, flip it over upside to shut down / flip back over and air should come out. If the O-ring gasket from the bowl is stretched, it could develop a leak! About a one beer job!. Just a Miller-Lite works for me. Nice to have a 36 pack of ML in case I run into trouble...I keep my 36 pack, next to my 740 pack of hand sanitizer now! great video Steve-O!

Steve you have an awesome name by the way haha. I always enjoy your videos because when it’s finished I almost always learn something, and it’s usually both a time and money saving tip that a lot of us every day do-it-ourselfers can really use. Been watching you a long time now and have absolutely no plans of stopping! Thanks again and drink a cold one for me

Steve, there's another viewer down there who is a Root Beer fan for the same reason I am. BUT when I replace a needle and seat and discover the brass float is leaking I do replace it with the plastic one. I also add vanilla ice cream so I can have a Root Beer Float.

Hey my Brother, agree with everything you said. Just wondered if you noticed when you showed the seat before you removed it , it was installed upside down. Been doing this for along time. Just hit me real quick. Enjoy your channel , and keep the videos coming.
