I purchased this Stauber brand key shell 9 months ago. Replacement was easy, 5 minutes plus time to clean accumulated dirt off the parts that were not replaced. Is very solid when assembled. Two differences I noticed. One is the replacement is slightly longer than the original, Stauber is 2 1/4” while original is 2”, at their maximums. Is slightly noticeable when in my pocket. Also, the red panic button is very slightly not as flush with the shell as the original. I carry more in my pocket than most people and occasionally I have set off the alarm when I assumed a position that compresses my pocket. This will not apply to the vast majority of users. The original shell/fob can be bought for a similar small price if you search. Stauber is very good, might be sturdier than original , 2 thumbs up or 5 stars, depending on your age.

Do you mind uploading a video of the current state of your key? That said, the metal key needs to be removed from the original shell. there is no way you can salvage the old shell. The original screw was removed using a small Phillips head screw driver. This is shown at 2:20. If the head is stripped, I would just use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the screw. Hi LW, sorry it didn't work out for your Pilot. In the video and description, I specify that it was for a 2nd generation Pilot. You're 2008 is a 1st generation.

@@BIsForBudget I apologize. Didn't listen to the video, just watched and ordered. Do you have a recommendation for a 1st generation?

This is super helpful! I have the exact same key and problem and almost the same year Pilot. I will definitely buy this part and do this too. Also, related video: I needed this type of trick the other night. My car wouldn't start until I put the guts back in the key fob and held it closed while I started. I was getting worried. Was stuck in the parking lot for 25 min with kids, thinking I needed a tow truck. Then I figured it out, and found this video after-the-fact: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3WXiZ5sg9-BZq8. Question: your video looks super good on the up-close shots like that. Sometimes I make soldering videos and things and my videos kind of stink. Can you take a video or photos of your camera set up itself that you use to film close-ups like this and post that too? ie: I want to know how to make videos like this.

Hi eRCaGuy! Glad you liked the video. Regarding my "setup"... true to my Channels name, it's very modest and uses a lot of items I already had. The video is shot with my iPhone 7. The tripod is a budget Targus I also already had. I did buy a Vastart smartphone tripod mount (approx $8). Although not required, I also purchased a PowerDewise lapel mic. (approx $20). I just use a big box microfiber towel to place on my desk. Performing the work while looking through the smart phone took some getting used to. That's it. Nothing fancy.

Also, this video is misleading because we don't see the car being started with the replaced fob.

Hi LW, the vehicle is locked/unlocked and started at the end of the video to show full functionality.

My key works but not the sensor and rhe buttons dont work .should i go to the dealership 😭

Hi Jessica, sorry this solution only works for the broken plastic shell, not for the module itself. I would first try a new battery. Then try calling a locksmith or a Honda specific independent shop. As a last resort, I would use a Honda dealership.

Hi, any tips on how to remove the screw if it has been stripped? I need to replace the battery on my original OEM key fob but the screw has been stripped pretty bad and don't want to spend on a new key fob since I don't need it. Any tips?

Historically, I've used screw extractors for stripped screw heads. However, I'm not sure if they make ones this small. You can try sandwiching a rubber band, tape or some steel wool between the screwdriver and the stripped head. This may give you enough bite to remove the damaged screw.
