I cannot express my gratitude enough. I have 17" version HP m7-j020dx. Great latptop..But left hinge, the hinge is still attached but when you open it if you don't hold the back with fingers, the silver top with keyboard separates from the top, so I have to buy new hinge (five dollars US), take bottom of hinge replace original bottom and then I can do what you just did. I thought I was going to lose this wonderful laptop, watched many videos they do sort of same thing but make it so hard, slow and complicated. You take all the mystery out and make it fun which it should be. Ordering hinge and glue next week, will send you a very warm thank you and hug for telling me '"easy fiix" every other video says " very hard complex fix", I am so grateful to you, if it wouldn't cost so much in shipping I would pay you to do it but good for me to keep learning. Thank you subscribing and I fix about 5 desktops a week, if customer is family I know and very very poor, I do not charge them must have compassion, maybe in a few months watching you I can also start fixing laptops, but this is my own and I am loving it, still works great but needs to be solid again. Thank you for the tip, I once had the same problem with a HP too. I opened it up, and glued the hinges with commercial super glue. I don't know for how long, but it works :D But I've got another laptop from 2007, and it doesn't have hinges anymore. They were screwed on a base, but the base bended so much that it broke, so I'm doing my best to solder pieces of steel and screw it again. I also unjamed the hinges, and I hope it will work. Still waiting for the glue I bought to a Chinese supplier, I hope it will work. I chose a flexible kind of glue. It's a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo, I saw you fixed a laptop like this a while ago. It's the same model.

I wish I had seen this video earlier. You're genius man! I heated a small screw and forced it through the hole. The heat melted the plastic and went through. It was sufficient to give support but I also applied epoxy for support.

What happens when the laptop gets hot? In the car, summer, etc. I did the same, but with E6000/Goop/Shoe Goo. Works great . I opened my HP Envy 15, and discovered that all of the risers had crumbled, leaving the screw inserts floating around in the chassis. Not enough left to do anything with. Here's what I did: I disassembled the laptop, and I cleaned it out really thoroughly. Then, I put GOOP/E6000 in the places where the hinges laid flat. Then, I put the small screws into the holes that they originally were in, and added more E6000 on top of the screws. Then, I attached the bottom, and I pushed the screws into the glob of adhesive. Basically, glued that area of the bottom to the chassis. Tried to avoid the moving areas, and left it, closed, lid down, to dry for 24 hours. 72 hours is even better, but I have a lot of experience with E6000, and I could feel that it was set enough to handle. This repair WORKED! But, you have to use some common sense while doing it.

Jeez Sorin, that is an impressive repair considering how bad the hinge was to start with, i have previously used Gorilla Glue which has worked well but the repair takes ages to set and you have to be careful with the glue as it expands quiet a lot, you really need to clamp the hinges which can be a problem some times, i will try hot glue the next time, if it works out as well as yours i'll be well pleased. I'm looking forward to your live stream, can you please inform us in advance as to when you'll be doing it, really appreciate all the great videos & advice you share with us, its invaluable. Thank you, yes, i'm using hot glue even for straightening the microusb charging ports, or rebuilding the chargers connector, or laptop charging ports

No , its not. In conclusion, you should wait for the hot glue to dry up. Then install the top side.

ps, did not know you fix cellphone. I have Motorola Moto G3 3rd generation, wonderful phone, about 5 months ago earpiece not so good anymore, have to use speakerphone. Then I notice a little bit of screen burn in...but still worked except for earpiece. Then two days ago I power full, turn on , it shows the login screen , a big M doing stuff while it loads up, but then screen goes black. I see the burn in part with a bit of light coming through so the phone is on, takes full charge, but watched every video did every trick, did not work. Perhaps you have a video about screens going black but phone still works however if I cannot see desktop on phone, then I cannot find contacts and make a phone call. I watched one video that said it was the motherboard maybe some light failed and could not light up whole screen, another video said take totally apart and replace with new battery (it does get a bit hot) , but I do not know anything about fixing cell phones, however I can follow any instructions so if you have a video of this or if you have any thoughts, I will send you my email and maybe you could help. I cannot afford a new phone right now. Thank you for latch video and hope I learn what is wrong with phone so I can fix it...Glen

Good fix for yourself. It is a "crime" to do like that for customer. You should fix cause of problem - replace hinges and set them. After that you glue and everything should work for much longer !

The simplest way to fix a laptop hinge is to (a) find one of those file folders with the metal strips on the top edge, and (b) velcro strips with an adhesive that you peel off. Cut out the metal strip, stick one half of the velcro on both ends of the strip, stick the 2 opposite halves on the edge of the screen and one the side of the keyboard. Attach both velcro halves together on the laptop and metal strip so it acts as a brace to hold the screen up. Problem solved

easy but WRONG - 1. you should fix the main problem "old hinges" - of course it means more complicated repair due to second side in display lid and cca $10 for pair of them. 2. hot glue is temporary solution, it will last max one year, next time you shoud use epoxy resin for higher temperatures.
