Oh my god you just saved my favorite pair of glasses Insane that the clinic that promised to repair them if they get damaged told me that they only replace glasses, and that my model and everything similar to it was no longer being produced. I accidentally napped with my glasses on and woke up with the wire and lens out, I thought my glasses were toast! Can't believe my old tackle box was better equipped to fix glasses than my best eye clinic. Thank you so much for making this video 😁

That's what I am dealing with right now. My husband sat on his glasses during a visit to rural England. We can only find 0.3 mm fishing line - is that sufficient thickness? The original one looks somewhat thicker, and I have seen comments that it needs to be 0.4-0.45. However, in one of the responses @eyetalk1485 said 20lbs was a good fit, and that's what the 0.3 mm was. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you, Eye Talk and KZbin. Mom is 91 and living in assisted living. The string broke on her most recent pair of glasses so she grabbed an old pair, different prescription. With this pandemic, I can’t get into see her or can she get out to find an open repair facility. I got her broken glasses, looked on the ‘tubes and you saved the day by showing me how to repair them. Haven’t fished in over 25 yrs but happened to have some 30lbs test line and voile, Mom can see (better). Thanks again!

Hello, if your lens pops out without the string breaking it is easy to put back in. You need to align the lens with the upper part of the frame, hold it there while guiding the string back into the groove on the lens with a piece of plastic flat string. Start at the top on the temporal side and glide it along the edges of the lens until you hit the nasal side, you should hear and feel a pop at the end when the string is fully back in the groove. I recently transferred to Optometry and I had no clue how to fix these types of glasses. I would just send them to the lab and it cost our clients $15 and 3 days or so.🤑 Now I can fix them myself in a matter of minutes. Plus...we had so many of those plastic little ribbon things floating around everywhere. I threw them away. Who knew...?😢 Didn't know what they were for. I don't think anyone knew before my time. Ooopsie! Now I know. KZbin and you guys to the rescue! Simple and easy to understand and follow. Not easy...But understandable! I have been practicing! Once again...thanks!

Totally awesome! I dropped my glasses one day and the lens got twisted slightly counterclockwise such that there’s a space between the top of the lens and the frame where it meets the temple piece. I went to the eyeglass store and the sales rep wasn’t confident in her abilities to make the adjustments herself and they no longer have an optician on location. When I bought my frames (online) the manufacturer included extra threading that the original optician never used. Now I feel confident enough to replace the threading myself! I just need to find an older pair of glasses so I can see well enough while I make the repair!
@eyetalk14857 жыл бұрын
Hello. We are happy you found our video useful. The string should be as tight as possible, while you are still able to insert the lens. It is of course easier to adjust or bend the metal while the lens is not in the frame, however, it is hard to see the symmetry, so try to match the other side as best as you can. I have worked with glasses for a long time and enjoy sharing my experience with the people at home. If you have everything you need and get started off right it really is an easy fix. Good luck with your glasses. And if you find yourself having any specific questions, feel free to contact us. Or if you have any suggestions for glasses related video content that you would like us to make. Thank you for watching our video! Eye Talk Team

my frame has one hole for the wire on each side. what do I do?
@eyetalk14855 ай бұрын
Sorry to respond so late, technically you would need a special wire with a little stopper at the end. However, you can usually make this happen with your wire if you melted a little with a lighter at the very end, but be careful not to burn it too much. Once the end is melted a little if it creates a big bulb enough not to go through your whole great, if not, you can shape the melted plastic while it still hot to become a stopper. I hope this helps, good luck!

@eyetalk148523 күн бұрын
Hello there, that string is called a figure 8. It can't be substituted for something else so it must be purchased from a specialty store. If your lens won't stay in at all, then it may need to be replaced, but if your lens stays in when you've replaced the wire you don't need to worry about it.

It was good video until 4:30, when I cringed really hard. Don't snip and try to poke the nylon with screwdriver! You'll damage the frame and lens. Better solution is to remove the lens after checking the correct length (when the packaging strip is still in). Then you can cut the rest and insert the lens again. Use your nail if there is poking end. I guess the lady doing the repair has enough experience, but I saw damaged frame when my co-worker tried to snip the ends.

What about the top string in the frames? Replaceable? Are they glued in there?
@eyetalk14854 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for watching, the top string is actually called a “figure 8” and is also shaped like one. The top smaller part of the 8 is inserted into the frame and the bigger bottom part of the 8 is where you put the lens. They are replaceable and slide in and out of the frame as id they were on a track. So, to replace it you need to grab one end of it and pull/ slide it out all the way. To insert a new one you do it the same way you got the old one out except you will be pushing instead of pulling. Good luck and let us know if you have any more questions. Eye Talk team

ill just cut one straight string and push it into the grooves on the top?
@eyetalk14854 жыл бұрын
Hello again, unfortunately that will not work, because it will not leave any of the string sticking out to hold the lens...
@giwtwm4 жыл бұрын
@@eyetalk1485 I see, a single string wont budge over the rails to lock on the rails on the lens itself, like the top of number 8, the string on top is a round loop string that pushes the lens down as you tighten it, while the string on the bottom latches on the lens and pushes it up as you tighten is this correct?
@eyetalk14854 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes, that is essentially how it works. One part of the figure 8 needs to stick out so that it can go into the groove in the lens.

How can I replace the liner on top of the rim ? Your video helped me replace the bottom one. Thanks.
@eyetalk14856 жыл бұрын
Hello, The thing that attaches the lens to the top of the rim on the frame is called a "figure 8", it looks like two strings molded together or a figure 8. The smaller top of the 8 is slid into the metal part of the frame and the larger part of the 8 is sticking out of the frame to hold the lens. It is not complicated to replace, you just pull the old one out and slide the new one in, however, it is often difficult to get it to slide into the top of the frame as it is very tight. Another issue is that this particular "figure 8" string is not available anywhere else than in an optical store, so, it may be best to have a professional replace it for you, if you can not get a hold of it... Best of luck. Eye Talk Team

@RamondoWildwood6 жыл бұрын
Hi. Great information. Just one criticism. I reviewed all Utube videos for repairing rimless glasses. Each one gave either incomplete or incorrect information about string size. It took me 4 trips to Wal Mart's fishing department to get the correct size thread. You need a spool of Zebco 25 lb. test, .021 in. diameter, $1.73, 250 yards. It's an exact replacement for the thread that broke on my wife's glasses.
@eyetalk14856 жыл бұрын
Hello, I hope that this video was helpful. You bring up a good point about the string size, I always recommend bringing the broken string to make a comparison when buying the replacement, however it is hard to give an exact gauge of the string as some frames require a thicker one than others. I am glad that you were finally able to find the right size. Keep up the good work! Eye Talk team

@@ZehVancho Hi Zeh. Sorry for the very late reply. The string size necessary depends on the diameter of the holes drilled into the frames of your glasses; not the size of your lenses.
