I am a woman solely responsible for 55 acres... youtube helps me with a lot of land maintenance--and with that, tool, mower, tractor repairs. Your videos are sooo helpful! I inherited my dad's tools. Among them was a Husqavarna chainsaw that doesn't work. I am going to follow all your steps to get it going. Thanks a million from Mississippi!

Hey Steve, just went on your KZbin channel due to 1997 Jonsered Turbo 2035 decompression start Will Not Start. Bought this saw new, and it’s been a good little worker for me. Everyone says to loss it,,,, however,, I feel a loyalty for all the yrs it has served me to damn well try to repair it. So I am studying your most excellent tutorials, and give it the go old college (school of hard knocks) TRY. Cabin: I went to use it 8/21/21 (Sunday), failed to even give feeble start.Took the top cover off and and pulled the spark plug, boot on, turned on, pulled the rope, no spark. All my testers, suppliers are back in St Paul,, so will take this one step at a time. I really want to DO THIS SUCCESSFULLY. Just a Mere Woman

9/29/2020- Steve, decided today was the day to see if I could resurrect a Poulan Pro 295 that a friend had given me, supposedly the chain oiler had stopped working. I tried it on starting fluid and it fired up but wouldn’t keep running. Removing the top cover revealed a brittle and broken fuel line. I decided to clean the carb as it had been stirring for a few years. Once everything was clean and reassembled I could not get it to start; regardless of what I did it just would not start. At the point of questioning my sanity I decided to see if KZbin had something to offer and found this video. I had already checked for spark, which was good, so I zeroed in on the video for a flooded motor. Damned if that wasn’t it. So thanks Steve, if you plan to be driving down I-95 in South Carolina, let me know and I buy you a few beers at a couple of our local craft brew houses. Darlington, South Carolina USA

First of all I have to say a huge "Thank You Steve"-you're an amazing tutor. I am not very experienced chainsaw user and I've been struggling starting my "Stiga" chainsaw ever since it was brand new (approx 3 month). Finally there was this time I was about to give up and let my hands down and just dump the chainsaw into the rubbish bin.I then found Steve's videos and suddenly it all became clear! Thanks to Steve who is the best in explaining technical manuals and usage failures-after watching his lessons I suddenly understood minor but terrible mistakes I've been making and now I can start my chainsaw in no time...great guy-good teacher and professional who knows how to deliver some practical advice to those who aren't so professional.Again-thank You for saving me from my suffer..💪👍 Best of luck with sharing Your advices-ppl need You!. Thanks, respect and greetings from Finland 🤘

Steve, I had to make one more comment on your info. I used your video to make all the final adjustments earlier today after a total tear down of my MS270. Pulled the carb totally apart, cleaned everything, all back together and pulled about 5 pounds of sawdust build up from every nook and cranny, All back together and runs better than the day I bought it. Cut up another couple trees immediately following initial start up. Perfect man, thanks for a great video again!!

I’m a retired arborist 45 years of small engine innovation by manufacturers used them all ! Anyways spare time a fair bit of knowledge small engine 2 stroke & 4 your videos super helpful very informative a nice added touch to the knowledge I already have greatly appreciated ! Most recent scenario my Stihl HS 81R Hedger parked for quite a few years changed hardened fuel lines inside & outside tank wanting to lift carb off for maintenance no luck tried all my 1/4 inch drive sockets boy 8 mil sure seems like the appropriate size googled Stihl about the issue very surprised about the reply to take a 8 mil socket and grind off the OD ( outside wall ) of socket so it fits in the dust cover so to speak as nuts are recessed into cover and plastic to close to allow standard socket placement on nuts for carb removal ! Well let me tell ya I never would have guessed and sure enough that turned out to be the fix ( remedy ) for carb mounting nuts removal ! Thought I would share that with ya ! LOL ! Mark from Ontario 🇨🇦 ! Looking forward to viewing & learning from more of your upcoming videos 👍

Great video Steve. If only I had watched prior to embarking on the repair of my McCulloch CS360. It wouldn’t start so of course I didn’t check the condition of the piston. I rebuilt the carburettor, replaced the carburettor. Thought the spark was mild so replaced the spark plug. Then I watched your video (see where the order is messed up) where I saw to check the piston by removing muffler. I thought I was looking at beetle juice in there. Vertical stripes and deep scores. At least I know what’s wrong now. Spent a few more hours and dollars than necessary but I learned a lot.

I just found found your channel a couple months ago, already you've helped me four times. I think I'm ready to tackle the chainsaw that's been sitting unused in the garage for five years because it needs to "go to the shop". It was running fine in the fall, and wouldn't start the next time we went to use it. My husband is not handy with engines, so I've been "helping" by playing your videos while he's attempting to fix stuff, and lo and behold... stuff is getting fixed! (I know it sounds incredibly annoying to have a wife out there telling you what to do, so I have Steve tell him instead, and he admits it has been a success. Lol). I'm considering just putting a TV in the garage and running Steve videos 24/7. We sure do appreciate the help you've given us!

Awesome as usual! I know this is over 2 years old but I'm just now seeing it. I built a kit saw, it has never run. But I'm working through just like you suggest. At first I had no spark, the boot was a little long, the boot wasn't seating properly over the plug so I trimmed about a mm off the boot. Now I have spark but still no start, not even trying! I'm going to take the plug back out and check where in the piston travel the magnets pass the coil. Maybe I got the wrong flywheel? I don't know, but it is turning into an excellent learning experience! Stay safe!

Thanks Steve this worked for me with my Stihl MS250 yesterday exactly as demonstrated! Great to learn after much frustration with non-starting chainsaws! The only difference was that my starter cord was much stiffer and jerkier to pull than it appeared to be in your example. I did not drain fuel through the sparkplug first, so perhaps I had an issue with hydrolock too. Thanks for your videos - great content!

Worked well to help me get my 20 some year old chain saw started! Mine was flooded. After running it a couple tanks, it wouldn't start when hot. Yeah I know look through your videos, you have probably already answered this question. I liked my solution, take a long break and let us both cool down! Thanks!!

well to follow up, i heard the page owner say a motor flooded wont start either, Well I took the plug out several times and pulled the rope, No splash of gas Then I turned it upside down and a decent amount of gas came out, after that it started right up, like the guy says, it must have spark , have gas, have compression and not have been over heated with the piston and walls all scared up and it will run. Thanks to the owner of this page, for me its like a refresher coarse because I forget a lot of it But it still helps,

Hi, Steve! Great videos (this and others), interesting, informative, ... - love watching them. Now, back to the subject: as you mentioned, the third basic condition needed for engine operation is adequate fuel supply. A friend's chainsaw would not start, died after only a few seconds or died after applying a throttle. After checking this and that, taking it to a few shops, changing diaphragm, spark plug, ... it turned out to be the simple case of plugged fuel filter in the tank. I suggest, after checking for compression, to try to purge the carb and watch fuel flow, does it happens at all or is it difficult - it costs nothing and can be quite informative. Can also help someone. Best regards!

I enjoy watching your videos on the various small engine repairs. I've repaired many in my lifetime too. But I'm having a problem with a chainsaw. It's my father's chainsaw that I inherited after he passed. This chainsaw is a Stihl MS 250C. He was having problems with another Stihl chainsaw so he took it to a shop that deals with Stihl so they sold him another one. As I've been working and cleaning this up after much use, I find that there is no spark. I went to Amazon and ordered a coil from them and after fitting it on there was still no spark. I've been told that I need a coil from Stihl and not an aftermarket. These Stihl dealers won't sell me a coil, they are telling me that I need to bring in the whole chainsaw and they will repair this unit. I really don't need a chainsaw but would like to have one with all these storms that have been happening lately.

Love your videos! I am having trouble starting my Stihl 025 Chainsaw. It has NO decompression valve but when I pull the rip cord it is very difficult. There is a lot of resistance as if there is no place for the compression to be released.. When I pull the plug all seems fine. I have removed and inspected the muffler, air filter, etc and all seem fine. Any clues?

Out of all the video`s I have watched Steve, this has been the most easiest of all fixes I have tried. I did exactly what you said and with just a couple of pulls on my chainsaw, it started right up! Thank You again for this fine video on how to do shit that I have no experience in at all. Your always the number one place i go to for help wit my small engine problems. Because of your video`s I`m even waiting waiting on a carb kit to redo my lawn tractor.

I drain old fuel Remove the spark plug And stroke it until burned old fuel . put The clean spark plug back Pour Straight fuel , one small cup of it . and magic happened Start up but die eventually. Mhmm I saw a return Gas line to the primer out And the idle throttle was off. Put the right mix of fuel and Success job . I followed his advice too . GR8 vídeo clip.

Steve, love your videos, I always learn something. I have been through your vid library and have not seen the issue I’m struggling with. My Husky 460 Rancher starts just fine when cold and runs well while cutting. The saw is very difficult to restart while it is still hot. It behaves as if it is flooded ( 20 or so pulls to restart), the longer it sits the harder it is to restart. Once it is cold again it starts without issue. What am I missing? Thx!

Steve, kind of off topic. I have a Stihl 251 chain saw and a KM 91 kombu, both of which I love. I have store lawnmower and snowblower with Briggs and Stratton engines. I only use Motomix in the Stihl, but use premium gas with ethanol shield in the 4 stroke engines. Would adding Motomix to the gas help in lubricating the 4 stroke engines?

Hi, I’ve watched a few videos of yours and I recently bought a can of the pre mixed gas for my John Deere blower. From day one my blower has never ran as good as it does now. The pre mixed gas might be expensive but well worth it.

Hello Steve, love your videos! My problem is I have an old Stihl 032 and it is so hard to pull the rope. I remove the plug and it pulls very easy. In the past, after sitting for a few months, I would pull the plug, pull a few times and replace the plug and then it would start normally. But this year no matter what I do, it is too hard to pull. I have pour a small amount of gas/oil mixture in the cylinder, remove the spark arrester, and removed the pull rope mechanism and sprayed a small amount of WD40. It's like it has too much compression in the cylinder. It doesn't have a decompression button. Any ideas?
