Loctite 641 and activator for reinstalling the bearings - not grease... apply crease to the spindle and cranks... grease is only temporary...use a bearing press and proper bearing removal tool... also your bike doesn't have Cannondale approved circlips - the ones you have will foul the bearings.... causing noise ;-)
@adelinegrass40683 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. I didn't know they aren't the original circlips. I have some other ones lying around - without the holes. I normaly use a bearing press but i didn't have it with me on that trip. Yes the fix is only temporary. I'll try the loctite next time. thanks!

On an aluminium or steel frame a simple trick is to put a tiny bit of thick oil in the seat tube.
@CoreyHowardPowerHour5 жыл бұрын
I like your tutorial style - not too much talking and to the point. However with installation like that it might lead to unevenness and more frequent creaking. Also instead on grease on the frame shell itself, there is some secret stuff called “wakos” that you can import from Japan that is the best thing out there for preventing creaking.

Read where u can and can’t apply grease. In most cases if u remove the bearings - replace them.

Look what Hambini says: creaking BB30 is not due to poor greasing but to misaligned bearing cups by the factory. Don‘t hammer the bearings out and put them back in, this only produces further wear n tear.

Grease is not the solution. Bearing locktite to the frame, and ...please don't hammer the bearings !!

Why cant Cannondale solve this issue. just get rid of the BB30! great frames EXCEPT the darn BB.

2:27 hilarious :)) , but thanks for a very helpful tutorial Kumpel! I'm thinking to get a second handed CAAD12 (and obviously also the truvativ set for BB30!!). I watched your previous video, and are you sure that no Shimano crank is able to fit with the BB30a system? Weird right!? And what is your saddle to bars drop, and how you manage it? P.S. Are using any special grease? Thanks, Red

I can highly recommend a second hand CAAD12. If you know your way around bikes. The 105 model new is also very good value for money.

Yes, Shimano cranks don't fit the BB30a. They to fit in a bike with a BB30 bearing housing but not BB30a. I did the research because I tried to install an Ultegra Crank using a KCNC screw in Bottom Bracket/Adapter. The Shimano cranks have a spindel length of 68mm. The BB30 has a spacing of 68mm between the outside of the bearings. The BB30a however has an addition 5mm on the non drice side, which makes is asymmetric and 5mm to wide (73mm) for the Shimano cranks. It's crazy, but that's how it is. All bb386 cranks will fit (FSA), and SRAM cranks with the longer version BB30 spindle. I believe GXP fit aswell but need to double check.
@MrRedzib5 жыл бұрын
@@maxgrass8134 I see... Also, I am pretty sure shimano spinddle is longer than 68mm, but nevermind.. I get the idea. Probably it is just a patent competition, on cost of the costumers. Thanks and keep updating us on your caad12 experience! :) Cheers

No I don't use any special grease. It is a standard grease that I bought in a bike shop some years ago.

Saddle to bar drop I'd estimate at a little less than 20cm. I manage it with very long arms. I have very long legs relative to my total height. That means that my upper body is rather short. My ape-factor (ratio arm spread spread and body height) is also large. Even if the Saddle to bar drop is quite high, my body position is rather upright. I ride on the drops a lot when in training and still don't get a horizontal back. Sometimes I use the virtual aero handlebar (lower arm on the handlebar) and that brings my in to a real aero position with a horizontal back.

What is the size of your bike, and if your seatpost is that high, your back won't hurt?

I'm 183cm and the frame size is 54cm. Check the Cannondale Geometry tables. My seat height is 86cm. I have very long legs and a short upper body and prefer small frames as bigger frames tend to get to long for me. I could however get away with one size larger (56). I don't get back pain but with the large standover height the load on my hands is quite high and I get numb hands from time to time.

grease will only mask the noise of the cups turning inside the BB shell not stop the cups from turning. Either use a retaining compound on the BB shells or get a one piece BB from BB infinate or Hambini
@adelinegrass40683 жыл бұрын
yes i'm dribbling over that hambini bb too. but then I have to switch so shimano or gxp cranks and my powermeter only works with the 30mm rotor crank... did you get the hambini bb?

Always too much grease. You just need a thin coat.
@bendenisereedy7865 Жыл бұрын
Wrong I'm afraid. The creaking is caused by the BB axle fretting microscopically inside the bearing inner races. Look closely at the area of the axle that's inside the bearings and you'll see signs of wear, as well a blackening of any grease that's present. I believe this is actually called blueing. The answer is to clean everything up and refit the crankset with a smear of bearing fit compound on the area of the axle that's fretting. Problem solved.
@Brainjock Bearings should be removed and installed with service tools. He will forever have a creaking bottom bracket on that bike. After this video he will need more than bearings to fix that creak

Look at hambini channel kzbin.info . Cannondale and few others BB are so misaligned, that is why they start to creack and if misaligment is cevere bearing life will be shit.
@dominicbritt Жыл бұрын
Cannondale shells are not misaligned. Cervelos usually are. Creaking occurs with BB30 in an aluminium shell when idiots install them incorrectly. You must use a press. You must use retaining compound - just like Cannondale recommend. I do this snd none of my BB30s make a sound. Using grease actually causes creaking - movement occurs when the grease dries up.
@corvus400 Жыл бұрын
@@dominicbritt All use press and if Connondale would make BB30 alligned and perfectly round, no creaking would occure. Retaining coumpound like Loctite 641 fill the voids around outer race of the bearing and it stop the creaking in most bicycle BB. All BB that creak with grease are poorly made.
