Good call on the band being worn. Seems this can also happen if the drive has sat for a long time and the band gets "set" in the same position which makes a kink in the band causing a loss of traction. I was able to get my band working again by cleaning it and stretching it slightly and then reinstalling it. Works like a charm now. Thanks for the video.

Replace with O ring, little tight and slow to open, need to get a real belt. Thanks for the video upload.

here is a quick side thing ppl.... you dont actually need to sub the rubber.. some ppl may struggle to find a replacement so instead of subbing it, just heat it up a lil with a hair dryer for a bit, should shrink the rubber back into its original state... save some hassle. cheers

Straightforward ! But don't forget you shouldn't look straight to the the laser pick up when the drive is open in order to avoid damaging your eyes..

Hi, are you technician? I have an issue with more than 6 or 7 of my really old cdrom drives from the 90s and 2000s, even after replacing the rubber, when i insert disc it will try to read it and spin but it wont read it, but if i hold with my hands the dvd drive vertically with the tray facing up, or vertically at 70 degrees with the tray facing up...it starts to read the discs perfectly and drives are all functional....... This i have NO clue why it happens, i was goint to trash a lot of CD and dvd drives untill i noticed this weird thing about holding it facing up they all worked.

I like the use of smps to power to cd drive. Never thought of that. Acually i was google sata to usb converter cable just for this work.I like the sliding method at 3. 39. I have watched several videos about the same problem of stuck dvd rom tray. All are only teaching inserting paper clip in the pin hole to release the tray before opening. But mine pin hole does not work when i insert paper clip. So, yours sliding method works great! But after opening the tray, upper cover doesn't come out easily as shown in the video. What to do? It is fixed strongly. Update: I managed to open the top cover after watching another youtube video.I have subscribed!

on the dvd drive, under the cd entrance, there is a tiny holle.. use a pin or something and insert in there till the end... it will open up
