literally saved my life, after giving my lenses and sensor a proper clean I still had several white dots all over my image. Turns out pixel refresh was all I needed to do, at least everything is clean now. Thank you for this info!

I was just testing my brand new S5II for the fist time and I immediately noticed a one stuck/whatever white pixel on video. I was freaking out! Luckily I find this tip and that white dot is now gone! Thanks a lot!

You HONESTLY just made my day! If I could give you a hug I would! I bought the camera 3 days ago and I thought it came defective. I could only think "how unlucky I am, saving so much money to have a dead pixel." Really, thanks so much. I know it may be a bit silly for you but you made my day (and future days) :) . And now in Spanish: Millones de gracias y me acabas de alegrar el dia!!! Te ganaste un subscriptor!!!

I had the same issue on my Olympus OM-D camera and I also thought it was damaged or broken. I did some searching online and found this is common among all brands of cameras and every manufacture has a different way to "pixel map" the sensor. Considering how common this is, I feel like manufactures should make it more obvious to the end user so they don't immediately think their camera is broken.

Just got done with a video shoot and had 2 or 3 stuck pixels that were flashing green and white on my s5ii and davinci resolve's dead pixel tool fixed it. I did the sensor refresh and will test it tomorrow. The shoot was 3 hours long but the previous day I did the same thing and it did not show anything. 5.9k 23.976p HEVC 200Mb/s to two cards while exporting 2160p23.976 4:2:2 via hdmi. Yes I did the pixel refresher and I don't have those hot pixels anymore. Dodged that bullet. I will test it again soon getting it hot again.

I’ve had this issue on my Sony ZVE1. It develops very, very regularly on this camera. Sony know it’s an issue which is why it auto runs pixel mapping almost every time you start it up. Because the pixels are larger on that camera, it’s quite obvious in low light. The issue is that it can develop on the Sony after say only 15 mins of filming. So it can knacker your dark high iso footage at any time.

Great video! I've decided to buy one of s5m2 or s5m2x after watching this! but I wonder How often the "hot pixel" happend and how many time u need to pixel-refresh when it happens once? and also how often do u pixel-refresh in case before it happens?

I bought s5m2x last week and I found a ded pixel in the middle of shooting. I too have the same doubt like how many times does it occur?
@이재혁-q1m7 ай бұрын
@@changeguys I've been using the camera for more a month but I haven't found any dead pixel or something maybe I am lucky or maybe I just don't shoot as often as It can cause it but I just still try to do pixel-refresh when I remember

Ok, so remapping pixel... well the way it works is that it takes a photo in complete darkeness (usually it is better tos have a cap on the lens) and then correct what appear to not being black... so hot pixels and stuck pixels. The most efficient way to perform a pixel mapping is when the sensor is cold (for example fuji never allow a pixel mpping with an hot sensor). The problem is welle known for reason night sky phtography, with the long exposure the sensor gets very hot so the sensor become prone to hot pixels issue, for the stuck pixel it is random, so for example sony perform often an automatic pixel map when the camera is switch off! :)

Hey Scott! I found the same issue today, and after a bit of research i'm here. I tried as you said "pixel refresh" one, two... times and the same small green dots are still there. Guess i have to send the S5ii back... do you have any other solutions/ideas? Thanks you so much

Strange. Had two S1H for 3 years, this never happened. Same for GH5S and BGH1, never had those pixel issue. Just added an S5ii to my collection... And after a week I see 3 white pixels. I'm wondering what causes this issue. Maybe a PDAF drawback?

I had this pop up recently. Ran the refresh, the next day they were all back again. Now they’re gone from footage but still show up in the peaking, annoyingly. I think I’ll have to send it back, but I don’t think I can deal with not having a camera for ages.

It works. Thank you so much, you are great. Does this Pixel Refresh need to be done constantly? Does it have to be done sometimes or just once is enough? Thank you.

I tend to do it once a month just for piece of mind but I haven’t noticed any other pixels at all

The stuck pixel comes back over and over again. It always solves with the refresh pixel solution. But...¿is it normal that the process be so repetitive?

Remapping (or just mapping for some mfrs) substitutes stuck pixels for adjacent pixels (so basically it reads data and substitutes it from an adjacent pixel (in place of the bad pixel) and thus ignores the "bad/stuck" pixel. Obviously this is a known "issue" on digital cameras in general regardless of brand or model, hence why mfrs include a "pixel refresh" function to take care of this issue. It seems to mostly occur if you are doing a lot of high ISO long exposure shooting from my experience (although most of the time, you will just get hot pixels -- which are white , versus stuck pixels which can be white or colored, but more importantly, are in the same spot on all images, whereas hot pixels may move around).

Had the same issue with S5II... I got super scared too. It kind of ruined a video clip that I shot ... I did refresh the pixels once, didn't do anything..; Was not easy to see just with the eye, but focus peaking was absolute. So I did it again, and it seems to have disappeared now ... fiouuu .. Let's see what it says in the next few days...

Sucks it happened so early for you but I do think the title is a bit misleading man. Like I know you’re doing the smart thing and boosting yourself in the algorithm, but it’s not a “major” problem for the S5ii it’s a common thing on all cameras and in most cases easily fixed in camera. Not isolated to any brand, camera or sensor. Good information and reminder to run a pixel remap every now and then

Panasonic cameras all have thousands of partially hot pixels but they will not show up unless you do long exposures at high ISO. I've used other manufacturers and never had this issue. It's a major problem if you need high ISO long exposure.

Talking about slow motion BTW... Lumix S5II and S5IIX don't have new Phase Detect AF in 1080p full frame 50,60,100 and 120 FPS but only old Contrast AF which is the biggest disappointment... So for some reason people who prefer to shoot 1080p FF in slow-mo from 50 to 120 fps they should do that with old glitchy Contrast base AF. Same for all of those who were hoping to upscale 1080p 50-120 fps to 4k - no PDAF. And taking into account it's a video-oriented hybrid camera, it looks like without a firmware update in the next several months almost perfect camera becomes garbage. I preordered S5IIX and now looking forward to the firmware update. Hope they will fix it by the time S5IIX ships. If not - will just move to another brand.
