Some models of HP use the Esc key instead of the function keys. So try hitting the Esc key at start up.

Liz, I'm uncertain as to whether or not I thanked you when you answered my query about the 3FO error on my Dev One. I removed the new SSD and memory upgrades and replaced them with the OEM parts. I had to set a new password to my VPN, I think. I wasn't terribly impressed with Pop OS, not exactly sure why. I have a new System76 due in this afternoon for my wife and we'll give Pop another try. If there is an error every time you try and test the hard drive that can be a sign that the hard drive is dying. Can it complete testing on another component like your memory/ram?

Fix for me: Troubleshoot >advanced options> command prompt. Run this command: chkdsk C: /f /r Let the check disk run then restart when finished.

It can be tricky to access. The computer needs to be started when the computer is completely off for it to work. You only have a short period of time to hit f-key or escape and access BIOS. You have a Window of about 2-3 seconds. It can take several attempts to get it just right.

@@EggheadFixers no unfortunately he didn't. He gave me an error on my hard drive so i just brought it into the shop today and it will be replaced by a new SSD one which isn't too costly. But yeah the laptop has been build in 2014 with an added 16gb of ram. And the hard drive just broke down in 2022 so all in all it had a nice run. And i still managed to play FFXIV on it without any problems. But yeah will have to start looking out for a new one now cause yeah he is getting too old :p

What part of the video are you trying to do? Are you trying to access BIOS? Because with some models of HP you have to hit Esc at startup to get to the boot menu or BIOS

First one didn't work for me. Second one left it spinning but not saying repair. I had removed it and put another one in. Smaller ram and memory I hated it. Someone told me when you remove a HD it wipes it clean. I had hoped that meant I could still use it but just without my stuff on it. NOPE.

Hello. All of my hardware tests passed, so I pressed F11 to try and see if there is a software error, as your suggested. @@EggheadFixers thank you so much! I tried doing that but it still didn’t want to boot from USB. I removed the HDD and wiped it from a USB docking station. Put the HDD back in, and booting from the USB. Only hitch is it’s asking for a product key code. Currently live it’s loading Windows. Fingers crossed? Lol

What if f11 doesn't work? My computer says it's going to acces recovery, but it then gets stuck on an endless loop of "wait" instead of the endress restart loop. So I was at my wits end and had to resort to a usb boot drive and reinstall windows 10 and then take what I needed from the windows.old folder and then remove the rest. Now all seems fine. So now I'm puzzled as to how this happened. Only thing I can think of is I replaced one hyper x fury stick (16gb) with a new kit of 2x16 hyper x predators. I could game with it fine, then later in the evening all my issues started with first loosing wifi and then stuck in reboot hell. But it's fine now. Hope it stays that way. But yeah I'm a bit bummed not knowing what happened. And almost don't dare try the new ram again.....

But on the other hand, I did the upgrade in the early hours of the day, got a couple of hours of gaming in with the new memory, (which btw is same MHz same Cas latency as my old memory.) and then turned off the pc. Later in the day I came back to do some more gaming and then first didn't have wifi anymore. And then after trying to find solutions online having plugged in a cable, I tried new driver for the wifi, tried updates from windows update. I even tried system restore to a week before, and that last one is the only thing that got my wifi back.... For a bit, then it went away again and on the following restart the repair boot loop started. So memory was fine. Then later in the day things fell apart... I'm glad it's working now and has been since, but this is annoying not knowing what was wrong exactly...

Did you install windows 10 on the hard drive? If it has windows 10 make sure the UEFI is selected and secure boot is on. Also make sure the hard drive is listed first in the boot order. Let me know if that helps:)
