This video was a god send. It was a mystery to me as to how it got fouled but wow there were alot of cement like pellets when I took it apart. VERY easy to follow along with the instructions. Getting access to the auger motor was a challenge with the two bolts. Putting it back together was a challenge as it's difficult to see and you needed to line up the holes perfectly to get it to go back together. THANK YOU so much!!!

i've had my 640 jam up a few times. usually in the fall when the warm air in the hopper gets cool and condensates in the evening. i bought a metal automotive pick set (1 is straight, 1 is 45 degree angle, and 1 is a hook). these combined with a shop vac usually cleans it out pretty good. only down side is having to remove the pellets already in the hopper a handful at a time. never had to take mine apart this far, but good to see how to do it.

Very nicely done! Two suggestions: 1. I started using disposable gloves when cleaning or working on my Yoder. It keeps me, the tools, and the smoker clean due to no oil from my hands being transferred. 2. I have one of the Costco Totes set outside next to my Yoder. I keep my pellet bag and grates in there to protect from the weather. Look forward to more of your vids!

I scored my #yodersmokers YS640 used last year from a guy who said he was having nothing but problems with it. It was a non-S model that had the ACS kit added sometime after purchase. Figured I could find any issues and do some #homerepair on it myself. When I got it home I found they had installed the inner fan backwards! He still managed to get it running like that sometimes so the interior of the pellet box had some grease buildup, but cleaned it up and replaced the igniter while I was at it since wires were singed and she's running like a champ now!

Same thing happened to me. Had the cover off during a crazy rain storm and water got into auger and made a solid wood block in the auger. I didn't fix it like you though. I simply emptied the hoper, and took a screw driver to the solid wood block in the auger, scraping it all out, and vacuuming the chunks. Only took me about 5 minutes, and seems a lot easier than opening up the whole side. Just another approach for anyone reading.

These sorts of problems are definitely a LOT easier in the design of some pellet grills like this Yoder and for me especially the LSG pellet smoker vs the more traditional super long auger style like traegers and my old GMG. Loved my GMG but those pellets if they get compressed and/or moist can jam up and having the super long auger just adds to the issue. I just got a LSG and I love the design it has, similar to this, with a super short auger (they use an open center core screw auger too which I think will lessen the jam up potential even more) that leads to a shoot and feeds the burn pot. Such a smart design IMHO compared to the more traditional long auger to the center style. Additionally i love how the LSG burn pot is removable on the outside and with the hot air ignition really lessens problems for me. The less you have to tear down and remove every component to clean things out just means the more likely you are to use it.

@RumandCook Jake, in your opinion, should a rusted auger be treated/replaced? I have a yoder YS640 with this same issue (swollen pellets in the auger, now fixed thanks to you). It functions fine, but I have concerns that it may become a larger issue in the future. Thanks, from San Diego.
@RumandCook9 ай бұрын
@havoksdream I expect over time the constant rubbing from pellets keeps it dry and prevents rust from spreading as long as you keep pellets dry. I didn’t notice any rust on my auger when I ran it dry of pellets by mistake last weekend. 🍻
