Quite handy to see this reminder. This type of stopcock waits to catch you unawares - good tip is to open/close them every few months so they don't seize up. Good advice 're thread sizes too! Thank you.

Classic dereton33! Thanks so much. Very timely as I happen to need to isolate the cloakroom basin taps tomorrow and for some reason instead of the normal isolating valves there is a pair of stopcocks ready to do that job but I doubt they have been turned since they were installed in 1973 so your tips will be very useful ... thanks again for all that you do ...

Hi Al just a couple of things also help is when you have finished working with the stopcock to to not leave it fully open just back it off by 1/4 of a turn this will help. If you buy a new stopcock to fit above old make sure the pipe work is not 3/4 inch new stopcock 22mm so make sure you have enough room to fit reducers 3/4t o 22. WD40 helps . Great information .

The stopcock in our place is almost underneath the kitchen unit. Last time I had to turn it off it had seized up and the only way I could get a good grip on the tap was to saw away part of the cupboard base first. Thankfully in the house I'm doing up the stopcock is in the hallway.

This video is the one where I discovered your channel, hate touching these things as you disturb them after a couple fo years they leak, also I worry when tocuhing them if anything goes wrong there is no back up to stop it. followed the steps however in the video and fixed the drip with plumbers tape.

Good video but near the end where you mention cutting the pipe. That will only happen if you can move the pipes in situ, otherwise, you will not have the play to fit the new stopcock into position.

If the main is connected to poly pipe that is easily possible.

Easy to fix to be honest - use a hammer Leaking more - hamnmer harder Inexplicable major leak of water - you guessed it, Hammer !!! The hammer is the answer to all of lifes problems.... (a friendly local plumber is also quite handy to have)
