I had a water meter fitted yesterday! The young plumber came from Barnsley... home of 'Kes' and 'Dickie Bird!' He noticed the drip from the packing gland and fixed it in an instant with a smidgeon of 'jointing compound'... I tipped him a tenner... He did a grrreat job! 👍👍👍

Don't forget to wrap the tape the right way i.e. clockwise viewed from above otherwise it will try to unwrap itself as you tighten the gland nut up.

Also , you can push a little bit of boss/ Hawk white paste in with the ptfe tape. The old brass stopcocks were actually made very well, the new ones however are poorly made. The centre screw is only brass plated, and rusts. I now fit BS standard lever valves. Turn your valves on and off twice a year too keep them free from seizing up.

@@TheDIYGuy1 having said that the pipe still appears damp. There is no obvious dripping from the stopcock itself that seems fixed. I can’t tell if its just condensation or a very minor leak further up.

Great stuff my dude! THANX!!!!!!!! I've just fixed mine! It was leaking around the tap spindle, so I knew then that it was the gland nut. I'll be shutting it off over xmas, but once I'm home again I'll prolly do the PTFE tape thing anyway. I'm pretty sure this may be the first time this has been repaired in the 40-ish years since this place was built! Thanx again buddy! 😁

Super videos - informative and well explained. I have old imperial sized radiators fitted, which I intend to replace with the new metric ones. Annoyingly, the existing pipe centres do not closely match the new metric ones, in some instances by a significant 120mm. Would be great if you could provide input on how to address this problem by installing extension pieces, including advice on at the maximum extension length that is recommended before the installation looks visually strange/ugly along with suggestions on limiting the damage if the hardwood flooring needs to ripped up to adjust the pipework centres in that way. Cheers.
