This is a great video. Very well done. One word of caution that wasn't mentioned is don't over tighten the bolts. A few years back I did this and heard a "crack". Porcelain cracks very easily under pressure and I found out I could buy a whole new toilet for $40 more then special ordering just the tank. I took an easy 45 minute job and made it onto an all day project. I've never made that mistake again. It's a lot easier situation correcting an under tightened bolt then replacing the whole toilet. I hope this helps someone else not to make the same mistake as I did.

The missing step is to cover the toilet seat if you are placing any tools or the tank there. Most scratch easily and can cost $80 to replace! A little precaution to save a lot of headache and cost.

So clear that it didn't just explain, it also gave me confidence. However, I was surprised to find that, for the kit I bought at my local home improvement superstore, the new large gasket was significantly larger than the old one. I ended up reusing the old one. No leaks so far.

Yes, older gasket is smaller. When I put in the new bucket, a lot of leaking then I changed back to the old/smaller one, it seems to be fine. Will monitor for a few days...

Thanks for the video. I did not even realize my toilet was leaking until i noticed water stains on the ceiling of the room below. I never thought that it could be leaking from between the bowl and tank, but there was a rust bath starting from this area. I figured it would require a plumber, but I will give it a try tomorrow. The turkey baster to empty out the remaining water in the tank is a great idea. I use mine for all sorts of projects, although I have never used it to baste a turkey.

Some toilets have a gap between the tank and the bowl. Following the instructions for your particular toilet you might find the bolts with rubber washers might be tightened with metal washers and nuts just under the tank and then the tank and bolts are put down through the bowl and attached with a second set of washers and nuts. This is how my toilets are. By tightening the bolts to the tank and then placing the bolts through the holes in the bowl, the bolts are much more watertight and won't loosen up over time. The only difficulty is that the bolts have to be tightened through the tank at the proper place so the bolts will go through the holes in the bowl.
