In this video I am showing how to remove to the shell of a Lionel 2055 and the points on the motor that I lubricate. Nothing fancy, just straight simple regular maintenance.
Your help and support are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for watching. Help support the channel for as little as a $5 per month / postwarguy

“Thank You for this video , have a couple of engines that will get serviced thanks to your video. Like how you explain all you are doing.Our engines are 2018, 2037, 8304, believe they are similar to your 2055. May God’s blessing be on you and your family.

Thanks Warren. I am glad you found the video useful and enabling you to enjoy your engines running smoothly for another 70 years. The 2018 and 2037 are a little different in its disassembly. There's a few more parts to it. I think my 2018 disassembled will be my next video since it's such a popular Loco. Best wishes in the New Year!

Another wonderful and interesting Lionel video. I love the 2055, right size, right weight, runs and looks great. I an a fan of your videos ever since the Scout motor video. BTW I've referred to that video many times and have been able to rebuild many scout motors without a problem, all running great when finished. Thank you for all of your efforts.

@@warrenmuzakpostwarguy4331 I just swapped out an old single reduction 1654 motor and replaced it with a double reduction 1655 motor. Side rods had to be changed but no other issues. I forget the even swap for the 1120 I think it might be an 2034. Anyway good luck with that project and I will be looking forward to the video.

this was a very helpful video thank you. i want to do a project locomotive and the 2055 seems a logical choice to start given the ease of disassembly.

Thanks. Yes the 2055 is a great start. It looks great, easy to work on, once up and running it will run forever and there's lots of them still around with parts still easy to find. Good luck with your project and Best Wishes in the New Year!

Hate to be a bother, yet again. The smoker unit on the 2055, is it pellet or liquid?? I think my old man mentioned using pellets as a kid but he is using liquid now which is confusing me even more since it has the original smoker unit.

Originally it was a pellet type. You can absolutely use liquid smoke in a pellet type smoker. It will not damage it at all. I only use liquid smoke in all my Postwar steamers

I have a complete 2055 Santa Fe Hudson noob question. I know nothing about these trains and was tasked to fix my dad's old childhood train set.. I know nothing about these trains but do know wiring, electronics and how to fix such things. The controller box and coal car that whistles needed new wiring, so I soldered all new wiring. The 2055 needed nothing and now I have everything running, whistling and I am honestly having more fun with it than I thought.... But here is my question, what is that switch/lever on the top of the 2055 engine?? I have no clue what it does??
@warrenmuzakpostwarguy4331

Glad you are enjoying working on the 2055. With all that new wiring it will run for another 70 years. The lever sticking out of the boiler on the top is the selector for the E-unit. The E-unit is a directional control. It has 3 positions, forward, neutral and reverse. You can change direction of the train using the transformer so theres no need to do it using that lever. HOWEVER you do need to have the lever in the forward or reverse position. If its in neutral the transformer can not activate the E-unit thus change the trains direction.

Thank you, had no clue what it was for, since I never took it apart I assumed it was a setting or adjustment for the smoke. But after seeing you take yours apart and looking at it I was really confused. Thanks again!
Take these steps before you run a Postwar Lionel you just purchased!
