Thank you, Alvinloser1--the assembly of the ball joint on my 98 Honda Civic was different, of course, but I used the same principle you demonstrated: a little piece of plastic wedged in against the ball. I had to make a little hole at the middle of my plastic to let the ball fit snugly--but presto! It works like magic, better than new.

couldn't get it snug enough on mine so that i could have it hold tight but still be adjustable. i ended up shoving one of those rubber Live Strong type bracelets in there and that did the trick. but you inspired me, so thanks!! cheers

Thank you sir! After getting my windows & front windshield Tinted ... my rear view mirror is loose at the swivel ball part! It will not stay upright. +it's getting pretty annoying!.. well there's more videos showing help ways to remove your rear view mirror, but this is the 1st one so far, about how to fix your mirror because the connection at the swivel ball ~is loosey goosey! ... and way to rig it. 😎

Thanks! I didn't think much of this video at first, but it was the only one I could find that showed it possible to remove and reinstall the ball joint basically by hand without special tools or procedures. I just swapped over the arm from my old Mazda's manual mirror with a spring-clip base, to a Gentex 313 autodimming & Homelink mirror with a larger set-screw base that was too loose on the Mazda's button. The arms, and therefore the balls, were the same size, and therefore I was able to pull off from the old and put it on the new. I basically set it on the kitchen linoleum floor and smacked it a few times with a rubber mallet. Saved me from having to remove the button from the windshield.

Nice. And you're saying the same thing I was thinking. There wasn't a video i could find to show me how to do this either so I just took matters into my own hands. After I managed to do it I just took it apart and started recording to do it again so no one else would have to just wonder. It's cool to think I may have helped 30k people from this! Nice interchanging btw. Not many people would even consider using parts from other models to do the same thing.

cut the edges off that may be exposed to sunlight if you're worried about that.

everything will degrade or wear out over time, but it's easy to replace when that happens

it depends on the style of mirror you have. if it's the same style shown here, yes it should work just the same
