I decided to stop faffing around with cheap pumps, so paid more for a Hailea ACO-208, which is rated at 18 watts. Things are much quieter now. To minimise the sound I suspend it in the air by the mains cable.

Only really silent ones I own is a tiny 1 watt pump I have on a shrimp tank (made by Cambani). I own 2 but one has become noisy.
@Nine-Signs4 жыл бұрын
@@CrankCase08 I'd screw a couple of small hooks into the case and suspend it off that. If off the mains cable as you mentioned, vibrations + weight over time may cause you problems. The flex though it seems robust is basically lamp wire. Not designed to support weight, neither is the internal grommet or widget that stops the cabke from tugging directly at the solder points. Best wishes.

Yep, it can get pretty noisy at some point, doesn't it. I myself don't even notice it anymore, but my wife on the other hand has problems sleeping sometimes and every little noise in the room keeps her awake then. I solved the rattle noise with a simple sponge taped to the air pumps, now I have to find a solution to the bubble sounds. They are homemade biological filters, made from plastic bottles, ceramic rings and black sponges in combination with air pumps. Kinda makes a lot of noise those things, but super effective I must say. And cheap. LOL

They were simple "common sense" but I give you the thumbs up anyway (because "common sense" isn't common these days. If things aren't bought up, people won't bother to notice them) B.) been done hundreds of times, by others with aquariums, vivariums or any other type of animal habitat. Thumbs up for the fact that you work hard at pointing out everything in detail, explaining as well as visual instructions giving everyone not just the "how" but more importantly, the "why" C.) I may have something that works better in my opinion or I though of ways to improve what you've done. 365 days in a year + 365 videos = 365 thumbs up, Congrats to you sir!

Thx for this video. The silencing crate is Not working properly. Bought a more silenced air pump. If this is also as loud i'll try the small air pump with the jar, you show in the video.

It is a good idea. But what about the heat? Is it warming? Is it secure to leave my home? I would like to know the experience that you have if use this method. Thanks

You can also wrap the pump in a tea towel or cloth of some kind and tape it. That's what I do. Seems to work pretty well. Sometime even just setting pump on a cloth or piece of foam works too.

Remember to leave a small hole so your pump can breath and not overheat :)

Definitely doing this... i have 10 aquariums in my bedroom and i would like to change everything to sponge filters but the god damn air pumps are so loud. My other advantage is my closet is next to the aquariums..I will also be placing the air pump in container in the depths of the walk in closet😂😂😂

Get a metal sleeve band and put it around the middle area and tighten the nut until the sound isn't loud.

Hi Mark, thanks for sharing this. Just a question. Do we really need a glass bottle for this to work? Can we use a plastic container instead? Thanks!

Thank you sooo much for this! Emptied out our coffee jar and put the pump in. Added some noise absorbing foam at the bottom of the jar and sat the jar on some foam as well and i cant hear the vibrations at all (can still hear up close but its gone from about a 100 to a 10) . Can now only hear the noise from the bubbles which is minimal as they go through a foam filter

I've just found 5 baby shrimp in my tank, I have moved them to a breeder box to keep them safe from all my fish. how long do I keep them there till they can go back in the tank? do they grow fast? Is there anything special I should feed these babies?
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
Fish will eat shrimp even small fish will try and eat the adults,you can feed them a tiny amount of crushed flake food :)

most of my tanks have sponge filters with patmini powerheads , the water I think is just so clean because of the active soils :)

Good way to shorten the life of your air pump! That's a permanent over heating job. It says to keep well ventilated.
@MarksShrimpTanks Жыл бұрын
Good way to not know what you are talking about, the mechanical moving parts of the pump are housed in a thick plastic casing with a very small 3mm breather hole, how is a bigger glass casing with a much bigger breather hole going to overheat it? This pump is still running, how old is this video? 😂
@bethb.57683 жыл бұрын
I took mine apart and it seemed like the noise came within the pump, not from the vibration of the pump shell. But I'm certainly going to try this.
@MarksShrimpTanks3 жыл бұрын
I hope you fixed it beth :)
@PENFOLD19624 жыл бұрын
Why not just surround the pump in the jar with Large Polystyrene balls (from a craft store... Hobbycraft)! I've put noisy pumps into cardboard boxes with packing foam/curly chips before now with holes cut in the box for air inlets. The packing chips allow a circulation of air around the pump to stop it overheating!

I guessed the suspension, but the jar was a surprise.
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
The jar plus the duct tape dampens the sound by alot ,I couldnt get it to work with normal tape so.
@AussieAquatic3 жыл бұрын
@@MarksShrimpTanks is there ANYTHING Duct tape cannot do? 🤔
@Logan86ish3 жыл бұрын
I did it with a tupperware container and lined it with some foam insulation and yeah hanging it so its not touching anything is key just doing that alone helps. Also I think its better to get 1 good quiet powerful pump and hook it up to a gang valve like the pen plax 5 site one. Instead of a room of those things buzzing i have 1 silenced one running all my tanks.

Great video, great humour too. One thing for an easier life for you though, you don't need scissors to cut Duck/Duct tape. A lot easier with fingers just ripping pieces off. Less tape folding back on itself
