Nice video however there are a couple things to note. It is a good idea to remove the belt by accessing it through the small access panel on the back panel by moving belt tensioner to the left once the panel is removed. It is almost impossible to remove the drum the way this video shows. Instead of trying to lift the drum off of the bearing housing just remove the three screws holding the drum onto the bearing plate. You will remove them from inside the drum at the rear center of the drum they are the 3 screws closest to the center. Another thing it is possible to do this all solo by putting grease on the little ball bearing so it stays in place, then use duct tape to hold the small plate that goes on the outside of the dryer. I put one screw in 3/4 of the way thenturned the retainer plate clockwise a 1/4 turn and installed the small bearing with grease on it. Once the bearing is in place return the retainer plate to correct position hold it in place with duct tape and put the 2nd screw in and tighten both to desired tightness. Piece of cake.

I watched this and followed this to replace the bearing , this is simple and very good. We had trouble with aligning the tub. We finally removed the top(six screws) and then on the first try aligned and placed the drum in place. We replaced the felt upper and lower also. our first time to repair. the best part about your video everything thing we needed to know as in the video. Thank you

Great thanks. Most of the time you can get away with just loosening the two screws at the back instead of taking the whole top off
@michaelbade4 жыл бұрын
I did it! Two additional tips if you are alone. Take off the three screws holding the bearing on to the drum and then it's easy to get the drum out by yourself and then take out the plastic bearing holder. When you put it back on by starting one screw of the three it will align the others so you can screw them in. The only thing left for another person is to hold the ball bearing in the back while you screw the plastic bearing cup from the front. Very awesome instructions. I can't thank you enough.

Thanks so much for the great tutorial. You're a life saver. The only thing i really struggled with was getting the drum out of the housing but I followed Ezra's suggestion which worked great. I also had to take it back apart to line up the facing and the drum again because it was making a sound.
@bernardwilliford62355 жыл бұрын
Great Video. Just finished doing this job. Just remember to replace those top back 4 screws. I think if you do it before putting the drum on it might make getting the drum on easier since the back and sides will be more stable. Excellent video!

Great tutorial! THANK YOU! Followed to a T (and also replaced my heating coil, which broke, went supernova and started a lint fire) - no more squeaking! My only tweak: it was super hard getting the drum out of the bearing housing, so I just removed the 3 screws holding the drum to the bearing plate, took the drum out, then lifted the bearing out of the housing. Seems much easier that way :) (Also, don't forget the last 4 screws in the back!)

This was great. I took it all apart by myself except lifting the drum, which two of us couldn't. My friend did the same removal of three screws to take the drum off of the bearing. I was worried the bearing would fall and damage the plastic wire brackets, etc., but it went well. Thank you. In the end, high temperature lubricant on that small movable wheel for the belt stopped the sqealing. The bearing was fine, but looked badly in need of fresh lubricant after 15 years...preventative maintenance then. What a job!

Though I did need to take the top cover loose to be able to get the ball into the bearing.

Great instruction and video footage of every single step needed. There’s no need to entertain so the cheesy siren and “you’ve won slots machine sounds” are just annoying. Really good video. I have a very similar unit that had some screws with a square indent as opposed to Philips's head but luckily my toolset carried it. I also had a big issue removing the drum but as someone suggested I just removed the screws and it exposed the area that needed to be worked on. I also took someone's advice about taping the new parts in place with duct tape as opposed to finding an assistant. The biggest problem was replacing the drum belt as it was in horrible condition. I got one from a local parts dealer and even though the part was noted as being correct it was just a tad too small. Parts stores being what they deal with thought I was not installing it correctly but a comparison between the old and new belt showed that the new one was actually too small. The parts boss did some hunting and eventually came up with the correct one. I strongly suggest comparing the old vs new on hand, because it looks like the online stores have the wrong dryer belt noted for my old (GE 2004) unit. The dryer is working now.

The drum turns free by hand when its cold but if I stop the machine when the vibration is happening and I try to turn the drum by hand there is a lot of resistance. I'm thinking something is heating up and expanding? Any thoughts on what that could be? Maybe I put the glide kit in wrong? Maybe the felt seal needs replacing?

I decided to replace the felt pads. I read that they can lead to holes in your clothes. I've had holes appear in my socks, and I think it's from the wash/dry cycle. I hope it's the felt pads. If so, this was a repair worth doing. Right now I am just waiting for the adhesive to dry. I have less than 5 more minutes to go. Also your video was helpful in helping me replace the drive belt and drum bearing. I've had a high pitched noise during drying cycles. I hope this will help with that sound. Also I went ahead and replaced the blower wheel. I ordered the parts from Repair Clinic. My only complaint about the parts they sent me is that the drive belt is 88.75" long. It really should be 91.75" long. It causes so much tension on the pulley. Anyway, time to wrestle with putting the front cover back on. This is gonna be a pain in the butt. I did this last weekend when realizing I needed both upper and lower felt pieces.

Hey there, thanks for the video. So, I have a similar dryer and have been told by Sears parts direct that you cannot replace the bearings because the drum is and bearing are "hard wired" together and therefore you have to replace the whole drum at almost $300.00? Any insight into this? Thanks.
@gregniblack74363 жыл бұрын
Last month I replaced the blower wheel, drum bearing, felt seals, and drive belt on the dryer in my stacker unit. I ordered my parts from Repair Clinic, and I was pleased with the quality of the parts, but the drive belt seemed to be too short. I should have just measured it right away. It was definitely an inch too short. I was stubborn and went ahead and used it. There was a lot of tension on the pulley because of it. The drive belt needed to be 88.75" but was at least an inch shorter. Anyway, the problem I ended up having is that I was running a dryer cycle last night, and it quit mid-cycle. I was upstairs so I didn't hear what happened. 2 of the screws fell out though for the drum bearing. I feel like the problem is related to not having the correct belt. From your experience do you think that I am correct, or is it something else? I am a large guy at 6'5" and 280 lbs, and I can tell you that it wasn't easy to rotate the drum when I tried to align the belt with the incorrect length. Edit: I got the replacement belt from Amazon, and I am so very pleased with how the dryer sounds now. I'll keep an eye on the screws, but I think everything is good. Edit (2): Being a Sears product, I simply found my unit on their site. Then I found the part number there for the drive belt before ordering a replacement from Amazon. Also the prices on Repair Clinic are absurd in comparison to Amazon. What you're really paying for on their site is a link to the DIY tutorial imho and probably their customer service. It could be worth it to those who need those video tutorials and otherwise have no clue how to find them. Edit (3): While the prices are high on Repair Clinic I do have to say that their customer service is excellent. I did call them about the dryer drive belt, and they shipped me a replacement that arrived first thing this Tuesday morning. Not bad considering I called them on a Sunday. Also when I called them they were good in explaining that there could have been an issue in their warehouse with where the part was stored so they were going to use my case to correct that issue. I've had 2 calls with them, and each person who answered was very professional and knowledgeable. So if you need more (video walkthrough and top notch American phone support) than just a part they are an excellent option. Also they ship OEM parts. I'd also like to add that they shipped a replacement but did not ask for the other part in return.

Your video is very helpful. The problem I am having with my Kenmore Laundry center is that the dryer just stopped mid-cycle. When I turn the power switch to on, I can hear the machine making a noise like it wants to work but then it clangs. I removed the access cover in the back and the belt does not appear broken. I tried to rotate the belt but even with lots of effort it wouldn't move. I tried to spin the bin from the front and it wouldn't move. What do you think the problem is?
