How to fix a running toilet

Thanks for realizing I am an advocate of Water Conservation and home owners DIY is not a threat to Professional Plumbers. I feel Professional Plumbers could do more to improve our image. Helping others is my way of coping with though times. Greg

So, the chain gets caught underneath. That's what is happening to my toilet. It's miserable having to stand there every time I use it, jiggling the handle.. jiggling it some more.. waiting to make sure it took. If I forget, or don't jiggle it enough, the toilet will make that periodic flushing noise for hours until I come by and notice. But.. I didn't catch a remedy for that here. What am I supposed to do to shorten the chain to keep it from going under the flapper?
