How to fix a slow filling WC cistern

Is your WC cistern slow to fill? Do you find you cannot flush it after someone has used it for at least half an hour. Well the fix is easy.

This video allowed a couple of students with a 'have a go' attitude to successfully do the repair for about £5 when it would have probably cost ten times that to get a plumber even through the door. So helpful - thank you!

When new cistern valve was fitted, the plumber couldn't work out why it was so slow. We have lived with a 10 min refill for 5 years! Did what you said and now 45 secs- brilliant thanks. City Plumbers and a local v.large building supplier didn't have the red large bore ones. I got an arm from B and Q which had a red spare as you indicated.

All I can say is a BIG THANK YOU for this video. Since doing this our cistern now fills within 30 seconds and not 3 minutes. I always wondered what that odd looking thing was that was attached to the ballcock arm, now I know it's a low pressure valve. Love the video's, keep them coming!!

Another great video thanks. One question though, I have mains pressure but still slow fill, should I not use the low pressure valve?

No, the low pressure valve will not close properly against mains pressure and you will get an overflow.

Thanks for your brilliant videos; I've gone from knowing nothing to being able to diagnose my own toilet problem!! Can you help me with the this though. We have a dual fluidmaster syphon etc. The cistern is not filling with the lid in place or if it does it's very slowly. It is also leaking into the pan. Is this linked? Or is the syphon seal needing replacement/flipping and a new inlet valve? Thanks again!

First check the valve actually shuts off, if it does then you have a faulty syphon.

i have a siamp monaco concealed cistern and need to replace the diaphragm washer. How do I access the washer?

Remove the access cover above the cistern if it is a push button, (air push type) a new syphon should just twist in after you have twisted the old one out. Usually half a turn and pull upwards.

ok question please. Our system is filling slowly but trickles down inside the toilet bowl and have to keep pressing the button until it stops, but also a loud rumble comes from the pipe and when i say loud i mean loud can feel the vibration, please help if you can thanks

Sebastian Lockwood A two part question, so first the toilet trickling into the bowl, I have a video on how to fix this, but basically it involves removing the button push and either turning the washer seal on the bottom around the other way or replacing the washer. The other problem can be sorted by turning your water pressure down on the main stopcock, or if you have a ballafix valve, on the feed to the cistern, just close it right down to a slower flow.

About 30 seconds if it is mains . Up to 2 minutes if it is tank feed.
