Slow filling toilet repair.
If your cistern is filling slowly and you have similar internals to this cistern, there is a good chance that the Inlet Float Valve Diaphragm Washer is faulty (bit of a mouthful).

Great if you can do it yourself yes, but if you haven't got a clue if are all fingers and thumbs..... tradesmen still has to get to the job, find the issue and rectify. Try it: Start this job from scratch...start the clock and see how long it took you to identify the issue, locate correct part and install. You are definitely looking at least an hour plus cost if part. So £35 - £45.00 for a professional to do? If it's £80.00 then yes you are probably getting a bad deal, unless you live in the middle of nowhere....

This is what was up with my cistern - the split in the membrane seal was even in the exact same place. Perfectly explained and easy to follow video. Bought the part at a local shop and I was able to fit it in about 10mins. Cheers Handyman!

2023 and your video is still being used!!! One of the clearest, well explained DIY videos I have ever seen. Found it a bit difficult to source the diaphragm as i suppose it's part of the trade's con to get you to buy a complete replacement, but got one at an independent plumbers merchant. You, sir, are a diamond :) I went down the Screwfix route too, and found it a breeze following your video. The hardest part for me was turning off the water, as the bathroom fitter had directed the screw head towards the back of the toilet pan, making it tricky to get a screwdriver in there! After that, it took about two minutes to change the washer, even for a hamfisted DIYer like me - so if you're worried about how difficult this can be.....don't be!

Excellent video!! My toilet was filling non stop. So, shut off the water, removed that part, washer was perfect but a tiny crumb of limescale was preventing the valve from closing. Cleaned it up ,put it back together (Don't know how you did that and filmed at the same time!! Genius!!) and it's working perfectly now for free. This is the only video with this type of valve!!! 40 fools clicked the wrong thumb!

This is brilliant! The first video I found has the exact same cistern and internals as mine. The problem was exactly the same, so I went to Screwfix and showed them the part but the girl on the till said they did not stock it. Good job I wrote the specification as shown on a previous post as she then searched on her database and found it. Cost was actually around £4.50. Easy fix which has also stopped the water hammer in the pipes.

Managed to fix mine aswell for €3 from amazon. The white twisting seal was hard to remove, very stuck, but managed to get it eventually with some force. Then just replace the black rubber seal, pop it back on, job done. Thanks very much

Further to my comment 9 days ago and after getting no answer from local plumbers I had another go myself having already changed the Inlet Float Valve Diaphragm Washer as described in the video. The solution is simple but not mentioned in any video I've seen. There is circular piece on top of the valve stem with a depression in the centre. This is to let the air out of the unit. Whilst filling the system depress this with a small screwdriver and you will hear and see bubbles as air is released. Now having replaced the valve and let the air out it works just fine!

Thanks for this. I followed the steps in the video but the water was running constantly and flowing into the toilet. I tried your tip by pushing down the button at the top of the valve when the toilet was filling. This helped as the water now stops when refilled - but is still noisy/whistling when filling and takes about a minute to fill. How long do you keep button pressed down? Any suggestions on how to stop the excessive noise and reduce the fill time? Thanks.

Thanks so much for your helpful video. It gave me the confidence to do the job. However, because my Twyfords Moda cistern is very slim I found that I needed to modify the process a little. There was insufficient room to relocate the lever fork in its slot before re-seating the diaphragm assembly and tightening the large knurled nut. So I first removed the lever arm from the diaphragm assembly before replacing the diaphragm itself. The next step was to re-seat the diaphragm assembly and tighten the knurled nut. Only then did I relocate the lever fork in its slot and finally press the other end of the lever arm back into the two securing slots on the rear of the diaphragm assembly. I hope these additional comments will help anyone who has a similarly small cistern.

Excellent tutorial, worked a treat thanks!!! Ordered my diaphragm off your amazon link, perfect fit. Hardest part turned out to be getting the push button back in place once the lid was back on :-s
