How to fix a subwoofer that rattles

Well, fixed the problem today. Thanks for this video. I found out that my box was did have a leak under the wrap on the top of the box due to poor manufacturing glue. Sealed it with some gorilla glue. My subs sound great again and put out the bass I want it too. No more rattling or frustration! #welit

I personally think they should use some type of screws instead of glue, but glue is probably more cheaper for them

@@austinbrown5758 ive had that problem with boxes blowing apart as well and ur right........ Id definately say that shotty manufacturing is the root of the problem 9 times out of 10. Matter-o-fact i got a pair of solo baric 12`s in my garage right now with the same issue. Box was in great shape, practically brand new. I even re-caulked all the seams inside it (which is common for me to do) before i dropped the speakers in . But sadly, to my regret, i stopped short of reinforcing it with the screws all around cause the carpet was so dang nice. Now ill be lucky if i dont have to remove/repair & most likely replace the whole damned end cap board.....SMDH....... Oh well, live & learn. Thank God for back-up gear. LIVE LIFE LOUD bro.

Thank you! I just put 2 new kicker 10s in my old sealed box, and it literally blew out the back of the box. I couldn't figure out why it sounded like farting and vibrating cuz I never noticed it happen, so I sat confused googling for answers. After watching this video, I checked all the edges and sure enough, I noticed the back panel was starting to fall off. A dollar worth of sheet-metal screws just saved me from buying a 100 dollar box.

Just wanted to say this is the first video in my research to fix a rattle that appeared yesterday in my 10" powered sub. Your logic is what most people lack brotha the video was intelligently composed, very informative and helpful. It also solved my rattle, and during your clip I came to the realization that I run my speakers and sub too loud too often...and that the components may over-heat or just fail because of it. when running a demo and warming up your voicecoil DO NOT SHUT IT OFF. Play music low so that there is still air circulating through the speaker thus cooling it down :) Great video, my box is creaky since i put a 2.2kw DC audio xl 15" in it. So i need to fix it using your method as a temporary fix :) Cheers!

Yep had the same problem with my 2 rockford fosgate punches. Kept blowing boxes apart. Took box apart. Gorilla glue n screws haven’t had a problem yet.

I am working on a new build with two Fi Audio Delta 15's in a 4th order and I am hearing an awful rattling noise, and it sounds exactly like what was going on with your enclosure. Keep in mind that prefabricated subwoofer boxes are not cheap to buy so it is advised that you take really good care of them and repair them if they are damaged because some prefabricated subwoofer boxes cost over 100 dollars depending on which one you buy

Oof tell that to my dual. Threw a belva 10" in it and when it started leaking air pulled out silicone. Obviously dont do this to an expensive one but its temporary till i get my 2nd JL so not gonna throw alot of money into it.

I went through the EXACT same thing, I had Kicker 12's cvr and replaced them with Rockford Fos 12's....had same rattle...then I realized it was my bypass box.

Wood glue makes a really good bont when you do it but make sure to add some screws to hold the pieces tightly together

A subwoofer box can rattle if it's made out of sheets of pine because pine resonates a subwoofer box can also rattle if there is port noise which is usually caused by the port being not being tuned properly and made properly a subwoofer box can also rattle if the subwoofer box is cracked and damaged on the edge and if the screws are loose on the subwoofer box a subwoofer box can also rattle if the wood is too thin

That’s why it’s tough commenting nowadays, we have the same problem with text messages... not only does the intention get taken out of context (if that makes sense I confuse myself often) but with the way the social media has gotten we always assume when someone comments it’s negative. Quick question, when your box was rattling did that make the port blow less air because of the leak? Because my subs sound rattling and I was scared asf that they were blown, I have one Sundown-SA12 but I took it out of the box and checked to see if the sun was blown by testing it out of the box and I didn’t hear any rattling. My sub blows out way less air through the port but I can’t seem to find where the leak is. Thank you

i never really tested for that when i fixed mine but with a big enough leak that could be possible. another possibility is that the passageway to the port has something blocking it.

Pine should never be used to build a subwoofer box and too thin of a wood should also never be used to build a subwoofer box so therefore you always should use what the manufacturer recommends that you build your subwoofer box out of otherwise it's gonna rattle unless you use dynamat inside the subwoofer box remember that mdf or plywood is recommended by the manufacturer

You are right. there are also air space specs they go by, and air displacement measurements as well. The reason i havent tried building my own box is because i dont know all those measurements, or how to calculate them

Idk if it’s my box or sub, but on some notes (low notes) it makes a popping noise and it’s very annoying. Keep in mind I bought my 2 subs new and box. And it’s only one sub making the noise

im thinking the amp may not be tuned right depending on the amp you buy it may have high pass a low pass frequency settings best thing i can say to do is play a song and turn that low pass screw until the popping goes away. its a place to start anyway

@@bryce._.mediaa check the connection from the amp to sub to make sure thats good and i have heard of people running the power wire on the opposite side of the vehicle than the rest if the wires because it can cause interference i have never experienced this but i have heard of it. maybe try that too

thats a good possibility, sometimes they leak around where the sub is mounted and its hard to tell. i put a gasket around all the ones i install just to be sure

HELP! i need an experienced persons aid because I'm dumb as F about car audio, can't figure this out... Im sure i have blown one of my twelve inch subs, but it passes all of the so called "blown-sub-tests" to check if its actually blown out. I think its technically bottoming-out but again I'M NEW TO THIS. So...The fuk'd up subwoofer does produce bass, & at a comparable level to the other sub in my SUV.. The problem is that unlike a blown sub that distorts bass (I've blown subs before & know how they sound) blown-subs make that muffled rattle where bass should be heard . Instead my failing subwoofer makes low & mid level bass just fine until the bass really hits; then it makes a terrible "Thwack!" Slapping sound. The slap doesnt reverberate or rattle. Just one sharp crack every time the beat booms. Some problems with subs are fixable & other's spell the end for the speaker; but NONE of the youtube vids or car-audio websites i have checked address this... & believe me I've searched The sub glides smoothly up & down within range when pressure is applied. No scratching, clicking or popping sounds come from the sub when I gently push it up & down... Sorry for the lengthy question but I'm trying to provide needed info to solve the problem. Do you know whats wrong? I dont know the impedance or ohms, just that its a 4-ch. 1,200 watt amp pushing two 12" subs. I traded a Hdtv for the system, then simply paid a shop to install it. Yes im a dummy; please help me solve this. Thanks
