In my experience with a punctured foam surround. I cut a patch from an old T-shirt. Then I applied silicone to the patch enough to make it tacky to the touch. Applied the patch to the inner side of the foam surround. Then I added silicone on top of the patch and spread it evenly over the repaired area. The puncture was hardly visible if at all from the front of the surround. The material from the T-shirt & the silicone combination held it all together and worked flawlessly. Hope this helps..

E6000 is one of the best glues/patch materials for subwoofers or speakers. It's extremely durable and can stretch amazingly well and I've used it to repair many speakers and subs. So yeah I'll "salvage" audio equipment from behind my local car audio shop and in a attempt to discourage such actions alot of the time they puncture the cones. But yeah E6000 9/10 times does the trick alone ...

I use one of those bit holders on my drill that slides down over the screw head so it can’t slip out. Works like a charm but I’ve definitely slipped up and poked a hole in my surround before when i first got into car audio back in the 90s haha. Cool to see the patch idea worked well and using an old scrap surround from a recone is good idea also. Maybe not the prettiest repair but functional until a recone can be done. Btw Im running a pair of those vcw 12s on an audio legion 1600 currently and love them! They hit the lows , bang hard, and have great SQ to boot! thinking about throwing my second 1600.1 on them!

Recently ordered a second kicker CompC and another box for the truck, got the kicker for half price because it has a very small cut in the surround, I'm gonna try my good quality electrical tape as a bandaid first, if not I will definitely put this method to use. I only came here for help with the cut but your intro made me laugh my ass off, good mix of humor and advice, love this channel. Can't wait to get this dual sub setup going, thanks Exo!

If you have a Dollar Tree nearby you can get the foam and the crazy glue all purpose adhesive for a buck each except it's a small container. From what I can tell Crazy Glue All Purpose Adhesive, Shoe Goo, and E6000 glue are the same thing.
@samwoodward98177 жыл бұрын
Stepside1986 funilly enough, from model working I can say that nail glue from salon stores works incredible. And it's quick drying so you can use it in a hurry like at a show or something. Just putting in my personal opinion, though.
@randygerlach90967 жыл бұрын
Samuel Woodward salon nail gloe is just CA glue and it is ok for temporary fix but will fail because it dries out the material and eventually will cause a bigger hole because it will tear the material overtime..

Bro I have the best way of doing this! I have repaired 3/4 inch holes of missing surround!! And its unnoticeable in most cases. Should have made a video on a l7 last night. A. Use a piece of painters tape on the underside B. Fill in the hole with windshield adhesive. Smooth the stuff out by wetting a finger with soapy water and smooth it out. Let it dry. C. Remove the painters tape from the underside. Windshield sealant adhesive is the perfect color and has the right amount of flex when its cured. That stuff cures fast also!!!

I literally did exactly this and poked a hole in my surround with a power screwdriver. Maybe not a subwoofer but for lighter applications (mine is a 6" guitar amp woofer), I found a simpler lighter solution as well:" I remembered how insanely strong wet suit cement was and you could use that but if you can't find that, there is liquid electrical tape, brush on several thin layers - its extremely strong and totally flexible. And it doesn't add a big "patch" to the surround. Again, a subwoofer may need something stronger like your patch - but for less aggressive applications, give this a try.

I used to recone/repair speakers, way way back when. If the customer wanted a cheap fix we just glued the tear and they hold very well. E6000 is better than the latex based glue we had available, and that held very well. I would just glue the tear and not bother with the patch. The E6000 is probably stronger than the foam. Look for black E6000 or the china variant B7000.

Hey EXO have a question for ya! How about a cracked dust cap should I be worried? What would be a good fix , it is a JL w7 10"
@EXOcontralto6 жыл бұрын
Although that can be a little more tricky sometimes, adding some epoxy or thin mending material in the crack could help prevent whatever noise it may be making for you currently. But things like that can most certainly be fixed, it just may look a little funky since it's located right on the dustcap.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Funny, man. I like those throwback memory thing and that violated thing. And for that, you've earned another subscriber. I also have a lot of small speakers collection with holes on everywhere. I use masking tape. It blends, It's cheaper, sticks very well without those sticky left over if you decide to remove it or something. Plus it can be easily painted with anything. On the round rubber-like thing, I also stick some parallel to it at the back. Masking tape is thin so it will not resist the movement of the rubber and you won't hardly notice it after painting it with the same color. Specially with good brand masking tape. That's it.
