Here I modify a safty feature that has failed as designed, in a safe mode. To fix the falure of the Thermostatic fuse, I bypass it compleatley, negating a most important safty feature to stop a runaway heater if all other backups or interupts fail that would cause a fire. If you intend to do this yourself, be aware of the risk of electrocution from high voltage, use a DMM where possible. Repair the device with the parts intended. In high heat applications, use a method of wire wrapping, positive affixation, and/or high temp solder. In high current applications, proper wire nutting techniques must be followed, otherwise use solder and heat shrink with a method of wire wrapping, double insulate. Let it be noted that the latter is the proper method of splicing conductors.

So, like the video clearly say, a lot of the times it is just a matter of looking at the unit and replacing a connection or finding out where the connection was lost but its fairly easy to fix with the careful removal of a few screw. And take a few pics along the way as for the fact you can always go back and look at what needs to be where. Look for broken wires or melted wires. Look for connections that just loosened up over time. 9 out of 10 times it can all be back together and working in ten minutes.

All that's needed is a wire nut on the 2 red wires coming from the overheat switch. You loose the safety but gain a great heater.

Hopefully you don't do work. Safety is number 1 Many people and children depend on my work not to kill them. There is absolutely zero tolerance for error. Maybe once as a kid but at my age you learn just exactly how bottomless the risk actually is. To do what, save 5 seconds being a dummy who cant take the time to come up with the perfect solution to fit the situation. Lets talk about better heaters. What about bypassing the thermal cutout makes this a better heater? Under normal conditions it works great. I want it to die if it gets too hot or over loads. I like my skin in-tact and so does my family. Ok so what if we have smoke detectors and can get out. Have you ever dealt with the aftermath of a fire? A #1 GUARANTEE! A heater with no way to cut off on overheat will eventually ALWAYS find itself somewhere or someway it was not intended and will become a fire hazard. There are also instances of thermostats failing in the on position or getting stuck.

Thanks! I took mine apart, just like you did and sure enough, it still doesn't work. Good thing tomorrow is bulk trash day.

Did you figure out why it does not work? If the elements are still goo then you can pull heat if you really need it but its a huge fire hazard. Did you use a multi meter or light bulb tester to check continuity? I probably should have included how to test. I suppose if i really had to, i could draw diagrams. If switch, thermostat, or thermal cutout is broken, they can be bypassed with any length of wire and your choice of electrical insulation and affixation.

What kind of screw driver? I looked at it awhile back and it looked like an odd design screw

Phillips. If you can’t get it, it may be too fat or too short or both. Those holes are narrow and deep

Mines a holmes but dang near identical design. The quartz stop lighting up and I really don't want to have to replace those. Hoping yours will be helpful seeing how you troubleshoot

Should be the junk inside. The quartz tube are likely fine but they can blow if orange and they get knocked or shaken. But if that was the case, 1 would work while 1 doesn’t or whatever. For those who really up to it, you can bypass everything! Lol just keep an eye on it, like a heater from the 20s

Hi Kasper, my heater turn off when it gets hot. Do you know what could be the problem?
@Wtfinc
@Wtfinc Жыл бұрын
turn the thermostat up? I imagine you mean it cuts off while its till cold in the room. 2 reasons this is the case; 1) you have a fan inside and the back of the heater core is clogged with dust causing the core to overheat and tripping out the emergency cutout. 2) unlikely, is that the thermostat has gotten weak and over sensitive. You need to take the heater apart and vacuum the back of the core. it will look like a sheet of wool. sometimes its so thick no vacuum is needed, just peels off lol. if you dont like taking things apart, compressed air blown thru the front may work some other reasons may be the heater is not sitting flat or something is too close to the front, reflecting heat onto the thermostat, happens with the one i fixed. the sunbeam I fix has three thermostats, I think. one in the top for the user. an auxillary if someone puts something in front(the one i fixed that got weak or whatever). the last one may not exist and the aux may do double duty as the emergency cutout but usually there is a third one that looks like a fat silver resistor, its a heat fuse(thermostatic fuse) that when gets too hot it dies forever. they are always found in coffee makers, ceramic heaters, toasters and such. its usually what kills 80% of all heaters and coffee makers.

Does the thermostat still shut the heater off at a certain temperature with this fix?
@Wtfinc
@Wtfinc 7 ай бұрын
Indeed it does. The mod I did was on the emergency cutoff. Its a major safety hazard. Buy a replacement part if you can. Doesn’t even have to be the same. Can be a capsule type. Rated 200F i believe. Maybe 250

By taking the front panel off and running a wire (electric fence) Guage from around the bottom of the thermostat threw the top copper panel it by passes all this but is a fire Hazzard if not knowing what your doing.

It wont be 365 degrees unless the fan stops working in which case it’s almost perfect. Considering the heater works to this day id say it does just fine
