How to Fix a Tire That Is Leaking Air At The Rim / Trick And Tip

So lets start by saying no one wants a leaking tire, well sometimes a plug or a steam wont fix it cause the tire is leaking air around the bead of the rim, so here is a video that will help you seal your own tire and work better than grease or the black stuff the shops dont like using.
first lets start by remove the tire from the car or truck and leting the air out of the tire and breaking the bead of the tire down on both sides, you can do this many dif ways and that is up to you.... after you get the bead of the tire broke down on both sides, lay it on a flat, hard surface you can use a blanket the ground its your choice long as its kinda level, then clean the inside of the lip the best you can with a pic of sand paper or cloth, and wiper the lip of the tire off with a cloth, do not sand the tire.... then use the Permatex Anti-Seize Lubricant around the beads of the tire and rim, and then add air and be careful the tire will pop back on the rim, then use dish soap and check for leaks, if alls good reinstall and be happy you just fixed your car the most hick redneck, coal miner way :) and your welcome...

@@TattsForLife Did a test with one wheel yesterday. I cleaned inside of rim with sandpaper. Then scrubbed rim and tire with toothbrush and soapy water. Wiped and dried everything and applied anti-seize. I aired the tire up to 36 psi. Held the same pressure overnight. I'm doing all 4.

Actually a pretty good idea to fix an air leak at rim. I would first try just to clean the rim and reseat the tire. If it still leaked, then go with the Permatex seal/fix.

I did this on an aluminum rim which was leaking on both sides. It did work, but cleaning off the squeezed out anti seize from the tire was a bit time consuming.

Perhaps brushing the inner bead cleans the debris that is breaking the seal and the thick viscosity seals the deal?

you will need to take the rim and have the air let out and the tire broke from the rim and then add this stuff, they stick on pretty good, I don't think you could step on it and do it

Awesome guys I will be trying this tomorrow and let you know. I'm filling both my front rims at least twice a week and the tire shops just"cleaned" them. That just makes it worse as they removed metal from the rims, that fix just exasperated the problem. As you said in comments they don't care and an inexperience teck will make things worse.

This work for Minnesota winters? Last winter I put “the black stuff” on GF’s tire and rims lasted almost a year and starting to leak again. Her rims are starting to get pretty bad and she doesn’t plan on keeping it for more than 3 years so she doesn’t want to spend money on new rims. I’ll have to try this on one and see I guess otherwise she’ll need to decide what she wants to do.

I replaced one of my tire 8 days ago and then it got flat because there was a corrosion on the bead sea,l this is what they said after I took it to the tire shop who replaced my tire then after driving it for 2 days there is a leaking again on that tire. is it a chrome rim? if they was half of good shop they can sand the bleed with a sanding tool and get it super smooth or use a bead sealant, but most the time they half ass the job and just hit it with a wire brush, you can but if you wanna check and see if your tire may be leaking due to dry rot or something you can check your tires for leaking air by filling a cup full of water and dish soap and rubbing on the tire, it bubble where the air is escaping, if its leaking around the rim, take it to another shop and explane that it needs to be cleaned good with a rotary tool and not just with a wire brush, and to also use bead seal on the rim. and check for leaks before install.... hope this helps and be sure to subscribe I be doing more videos like this soon and more tips on this subject

can you spray some dish soap and water and see if its leaking at the rim, or the tire its self. and look for any bends in the rim, if not take it to a shop and have them sand the inside of the rim, just not do a fast hit it with a wire brush. hope this helps a little

@@TattsForLife i've been driving for a year on 2 cracked 20's running 245/30/20 tires. You are correct, welding them was only temporary (repair lasted only a week, however it did stop the crack running). So i took off the tires and jb welded the rims. this time the repair lasted for 2 or 3 months before both rims started leaking again. one goes all the way flat the other loses a few pounds a day. i did the soap trick, and it turns out the jb weld hasn't failed, but the tire is not sealing where the jbweld is. so i'm thinking of trying your solution here to see if it helps. my rims are aluminum alloy and really old, but eventually i will get new rims. but for now, they are stable afaik. i check them every day to see if there is any sign of the cracks worsening. so far i'm lucky

Grease works great,,thin layer on both beads,make sure corrosion/rust is removed off wheel(bead area),make sure no corrosion/rust is embedded in tire bead,and install a new valve stem,especially on aluminum wheels,and clean up the valve stem hole and seating area,quite often the valve stem is cause of a slow leak,,this is from experience ,changed thousands of tires

At first it scared me to see antiseeze on a tire bead cause I would think tire would spin off the rim during use but if the old man used it on Cole trucks and that v8 transam dont break tire loose then good enough for me. I'm going to try this on my Honda atvs . Seems like I hot 3 that always leak at the rim while riding hard. Hopefully this works.
