Ever heard the old saying that the poor man pays twice! I replaced the clock spring in my Prado with a "Genuine Toyota part" from eBay. Used the same part number from Toyota and the clock spring arrived in identical Toyota packaging. I mean to look at it, it was the same. How much was it? $27 delivered. I thought what a bargain! So, I put it in and it did fix the airbag light. BUT, about 6 weeks later the airbag light came back on again, then went away, then came back on again. So, I bought the Genuine part from the Toyota spare parts at the local dealership for around $400.The part from the dealership has the yellow sticker like the original in your video and my old one which had lasted 17 years and the counterfeit has the green as has the one in the video. You don't know unless you give it a go I suppose and it only cost me a total of around $427. Buy Genuine the first time. Keep up the great videos guys.

Thanks for this video. I have an average skill set with tools and after I watch your videos and find competing the job so much easier. Looking for those little extra bits that most mechanics don't even do. Cheers.

Before replacing the spring, could it be worth by taking the connections off under those plastic covers and cleaning them out with contact spray? Or is it always the spring that is faulty?

I have a 2010 Prado (150), which was clean as a whistle when i bought it in 2016 at 95000 km. Of course, as soon as i drove it away, dust started coming out of every nook n crannie in the car... Clockspring died at 175000km, with the cruise control functionality going. After replacing the cruise control arm thing, it still didnt work, so that's when i realised it was clock spring, as that also carries the cruise control signals. Steering wheel also squeaks a bit now when i turn it. Anyway... i replaced clockspring (dirt cheap, $30 or so from ebay), and steering angle sensor ($120 or so on ebay), and cruise control is working now, but traction control indicator is still on. I'm hoping it just needs steering angle sensor recalibration, like they sometimes do when u get a wheel alignment done. Wish i had seen this video earlier, with your tips to mark the thread & wheel to keep everything aligned, and i mightve avoided need to recalibrate. TY for another great vid.

Always wandered what the clock spring was. I have a 07 hilux 2kd. 4x4. A while ago the Toyota dealer here in Trinidad called ne in for a free service. all the paper said was clock spring adjustment.

What size is the nut you got off with an impact driver?
@littlejoelgriffo22 жыл бұрын
It’s 19mm and turns out and luckily you don’t need an impact driver it’s not that tight. My steering wheel did that a lot of smacks before it could come off
