How to FIX Amazon Echo that has STOPPED Responding

Hi, this video shows a very simple fix that can cure many problems on your Amazon Echo. In the video the Amazon Echo has become unresponsive and will not answer any questions, by simply turning it off for 30 seconds and then turning it back on again it has fixed it and can also fix other issues.

Same exact thing for me. I got this Echo Show 5 for Xmas, Alexa is 95% moody all the time, never wants to respond after I say "Alexa..." - Especially first thing in the morning to turn on lights, AND at night when I want to Turn off lights (I've been manually going into "Smart Home" and pushing the "Turn lights off" button...) - -I play this video for a possible fix, Alexa had no problem responded to all of HIS commands / voice! WTF?!?

That worked for me! Those lightning storms the last couple of days must have put it out of wack. I unplugged it as he did, waited 30 seconds, plugged back in and Alexa found her voice! Many thanks!!

Yeah that's BS you have to turn it off every time. I had my Alexa for several years and then all of a sudden the last 6 months or so it started doing it. I thought it had something to do with covid-19 and everybody being at home and everybody being on their Alexa at one time but seriously having to unplug it every day? Pain in the ass...

I got this Echo for Christmas and after about a month or more it started doing the same thing. The only difference is this happens every day. I also hate to keep unplugging it and plugging it back in EVERY day, it's so frustrating I almost tossed it away. I don't use it very often and mostly just to play music from iHeart and TuneIn radio so I don't know if I'm just not using it enough to keep Alexa "interested". It has to be some design flaw or I got a lemon. There has to be a permanent fix for this somewhere. I also set an alarm with Alexa for 8:00 AM every morning so as to wake it up and it seems to work sometimes and sometimes not.

Call Amazon. If you bought it less than a year ago it's still under warranty and they will replace it. I spoke with them today and I'll have my new unit this Sunday.

Omg thank you, I was about to throw Alexa to the wall and break it. It wasn't responding to my commands the only thing it will say. "I can't do that but If you would like to open up the kids play mode" 😭🤦🤷 Now, I did them steps and now it works.

What also works for me is to call or message my echo from the alexa app - the ring turns green and after I've told Alexa to answer/hang up or to read message she starts responding again.

Megan, I have the same problem as you -- only worse. I have several other Echos, Dots, and Taps and only one is giving me this problem. I suspect something is wrong more than just needing an unplug and re-plug.

My echo dot 2nd generation doesn't respond to any measure mentioned in the video. It is constantly showing blue light (not blinking at all), not a single button responses nor the resetting process works. Mine was acting crazy two weeks before it stopped working and I tried to fix it. It interrupted my conversation over the phone many times and I was getting annoyed. I unplugged it and put in box and put it away. I might sell it or trash it.

Also another fix is that somehow your Alexa got mysteriously attached to another source, so go into your Alexa app and open up that echo device and see what it’s connected to. If it’s “off” switch to the device it’s supposed to be paired with.

Hi I‘m from Mexico I have an other problem with my Echo Dot 3, although it is just occasionally. The problem is that sometimes when Alexa speaks after making a request, sometimes it stops suddenly and the LED circle turns off, It only happens sometimes, when the volume is louder and when Alexa speaks with the blue light circle, I don’t know what can be wrong with my device, is weird because I don’t have any issues playing audible media content, I mean music, Podcast or even other audio recordings that Alexa plays in some answers. Is it a Hardware problem with my device or is something wrong with Alexa? I’ve getting in touch with the Alexa technical support but they don’t assist me in the right way, I already made a reset to my Echo device but it didn’t work, it continues turning off when I never say Alexa to stop. I don’t know what else can I do, I’ll like some help please. Thank you

UGH - I've had an Echo gen 1 for almost a year and its about to be thrown out the window. I have to get up and hit the "Action Button" in order to get Alexa's attention - frustrating Amazon really does not care or want to fix this after spending a lot of money on this device along with a monthly subscription. It's a great idea, but not worth the frustration.

Both my A speaker and g nest mini speakers stopped working this week. I'm thinking its a Sky q router issue, but Alexa is refusing to do anything, even listen to voice commands. It just makes a very low chime sound and says it can't understand right now, try again later. I tried, everything, again later, but still no joy, so I have Emailed Amazon customer services and I will also contact Sky to send me a new q hub if I can't get it sorted. Has anybody else experienced this?

Hi, it might be in a bad spot for WiFi, maybe try moving it closer to the router or next to it just to see if it is working ok. If it is then you could look at ways of extending/boosting your WiFi signal.

Mine quits responding daily and only sometimes says it is not connected to wi-fi even though it's only 4 feet away and I have a small adapter for my PC in the bedroom and the signal is strong at that distance so it can't be signal strength.

go into your setting on the app scroll down to "Language" you have a choice of German/ English-USA/English-UK/English-Canada/English-Austrailia/Japan or China - however, you should NOT use them unless you live in these countries or regions due to skills not functioning correctly

I’m going to take the second amazon echo studio back for a refund In know time at all.. first one being the top speaker 🔈 cracking .. the second one being that it froze just like in the video but no response after troubleshooting either also out of all My echos its the only one I’ve had to do this ! Seriously this isn't obvious to everyone to power down and back up, when any device has hung for an unusually long time. The most informative thing about this post was "Dewey Plays" comment. Try Echo, Amazon and Alexa if your wake-up word doesn't work. I've also had Alexa pair to my TV's sound bar. I guess because I'd pair it once to the sound bar. Checked the settings, then I turned off Bluetooth. Never happen again.
