Great video, thanks it was a lot of help. When pulling on that cable to open the door, it helps to push in on the door. After I fixed my door, I called the Ford dealer. The service guy told me I needed new cables. He quoted $300 to $350. Your little frog boy is adorable.

I have a 2004 F-150 V8 extended cab & I actually went to a dealership near me in Cookeville, TN and talked to a guy that works in the shop about this issue and he said “Michelle, the only big deal about this job is that it is a little time consuming and you may get frustrated a few times. The parts are cheap, but if you want to get it done here in the shop, the labor is going to cost you way more than the clips.” It was only one door that was stuck and I decided to just adapt and deal with it. I dealt with it for several months until the other door did the same thing 😫! My husband and I are like you and your wife, we don’t want debt unless it is for a house or something big that we absolutely have to have a loan. I grew up on a farm and we did not have a lot of money, so we learned to fix everything by watching our dad and participating in the fix, even if it was just to pass tools to our dad when we were little. It really instilled great pride & value in the things that were ours and we took care of everything we had. That is why videos like this are priceless to me bc growing up there weren’t KZbin videos to guide us and you were lucky if you had a manual to follow but most things were done by trial & error. Today, people like you who take the time to do videos like this helps more than anything and I just want you to know how grateful I am and how much I appreciate you and your videos! I have ordered the pieces and will begin the repair on both doors when they get here! I will probably watch this video again and do play & pause while I am trying to fix both doors 😁! Thank you very much & May God send many blessings to you and your family! I will do a follow-up once the job is complete!

My husband has a 2004 Ford F150 FX4 and said your video was excellent. So he ordered the parts through your link to give you credit . But as others had commented the aluminum pieces where way to tight and it took him longer then it should have since he had so much trouble trying to widen them to fit over the black cable and on one of the brackets he even had to use a drill to grind down the piece on his truck so the round part of the aluminum piece could snap into it. But in the end he can now open his back door. So thank you so much for posting your video and saving us so much money by showing him on how to do it himself.

I can start my truck and change oil, but very limited auto mechanical knowledge. Both of My 2004 f-150 rear doors broke in a week. My wife found your instructional video and I followed in completely as you showed. I ordered the parts from a popup for Walmart, 8 pieces for $9. In about 2-3 hours I now have two working doors and probably saved $300 of repair expenses. Thank you very much

I have literally always liked to help people with their projects. I had a great father who taught me how to fix and do a lot around the house. I’m going to do the same for my children. Part of the reason I created the channel was because I know a lot of people didn’t have that growing up. Hopefully I can show people how to make repairs around their house and teach their children and others to do the same. Thanks for watching!

2007 XLT SCAB owner here. Excellent detailed DIY video. Much appreciated! One comment to add: if you have electric rear windows, there’s one more screw to remove before lifting the rear, lower door panel out. It’s behind the rear window switch, so you need to pop off that door handle panel to get to it. I’m gonna try to upload a photo here, but if that doesn’t work, just know that and use your flathead screwdriver in an intuitive way to pop that small panel off. Thanks OP for an excellent, very helpful post!

Yeah, I found that out as well, going to remove the door panel. Also had a bit of a time getting the handle positioned just right to make it work as well, but I did get it. Now I need to order another set for the other door as well. (I'd gotten some of those for a previous F150, that had the same problem. I ordered extra, in case I damaged one, or something).

I just had this problem and took my door apart and all behold the top white one broke, so i pulled on the cable at that spot and the door poped open. So i unclipped the yellow tap and pulled it out then put it back in with a 16th of a in. Slack and pulled the handle and it worked, even with the white pice broken. I kept those silver pieces and figured, i may need them later. Just remember guys if you have that to tight at the yellow part then it can't release the top latch, if you push in on the hook and it snaps shut when the door is open of course then pull the handle or push it should click back out, if it doesn't then give it some more slack and try again. Hope this helps!

Great video. I have power windows on the back so there is one more screw under the power switch. Pop off the top, front of the handle and disconnect the the wiring. Now you can remove the screw under the handle, as well as the 3 as shown in the video. Everything else was the same as far as removing and replacing. The aluminum ferrules I received had the slots wide enough for the wire but when putting the ferrule in place, it pinched the wire so it would not slide. I drilled a 1/8" hole in the top center of each ferrule. This allowed the wire to slide freely. Also, the cable cover would not slide all the way up into the ferrule so that it would work right. I drilled out the bottom sleeve part with a 13/64" bit (a 29 piece drill bit set will have one). This allowed the cover to slide all the way up. DO NOT drill into the top part that holds the cable cover in place. The cable cover needs to be stationary so the wire slides. Think of how the brake/clutch cables work on a 4 wheeler or dirt bike, this works the same. I replaced the other door ferrules as well before it got stuck. Good thing since 2 of the plastic ferrules were already broke. Total time to do the second, working door was 42 minutes and I did not hurry. Again, great video. Hope my comments help others.

Great video dude, including your son's frog. It was very helpful, and I too had to spread the new anchors a little to get the cable all the way to the stopping point. And you pointing out the difference between the 1 different anchor also saved me some time. I did run into a problem with the lower cable coming free from the lower latch. I just had to reach my hand down into the door where the latch is located, and feel around for the manual release. If you push down on it, it will release the door. I had to try it a couple of times before it worked. Thanks. By far, the best tutorial video on the subject

I was very sceptical because we all know these types of jobs are never simple and never work out exactly like the videos show. However, I was pleased to have found this just that simple. I have a few pointers as to making this job simple. 1. If you have electric windows (as I did on my 07 F-150STX) there is an additional screw (a 4th) that is under the panel for the electric window button. All you do is pop off that little panel that the switch is resting on and you'll see the silver screw. 2. I DID NOT have to un-click the cable wire tension piece as shown in this video. Leave it completely alone. If you buy the metal grommets through the link provided the 4th that has a different head then all the others IS the correct one for the top. 3. The metal grommets are designed to slide right over the plastic coating on the cable wires, however because of time, weather, heat and cold that plastic expands. You may have to strip the size of the length of the grommet to slid it over the wire cable. You would literally strip it back as you would like a radio wire. 4. The very bottom grommet that needs to be replaced is held down to the door by 3 screws. Those screws can get tight because of weather. Tap the heads with a hammer and they'll losen right up without stripping them. 5. BUY BOTH SIDES!!!!!! Even though I didn't need to do my driver's side, I did anyway and found all 4 grommets were broken...it was a matter of time for that door to lock also. The reason those plastic ones break is because they lose their petroleum over time, dry out and break. Total time for both sides was 1 hour and 40 mins for those wondering. I took my time and didn't stress about it.

I just finished my install 2006 F150 2006 just like this one. My cable ends where way to tight for me to get them to bottom out. What i did to open them up a good bit was a large screw driver and held it up and drove the blade all the way I was thinking surely this will crack but to my amazement I really got a very good opening and all my cables were easy after doing this. I did crimp them afterwards. My one mistake I tried to install one cable only half way in and the cable was really short to install the lower latch so I reinstalled cable end and bottom it out. and this did give me more cable that I needed. Thank you so much for your video.

The switch is disengaged by pushing a small flathead screwdriver between the switch and it’s housing on each side. After the switch is removed, the bolt holding the door panel can be accessed. This is the same issue I had with my 2004 gear selector, they used a cheap plastic grommet to connect the shifter to the actual switch on the transmission and it will pop out when it's cold and hot in the same day here in Florida, $2.50 fix that dont even require jacking it up.

Thanks! Great video, my 2005 F150 had the same problem. My dismantling work as yours to a point, had an extra bolt under part of the armrest, My truck has power rear windows. Removed it, unplugged the rocker switch and the palen came right out. One suggestion, I drilled out the top of the slot so the cable would slide through easier when used, that helped my installation a lot!

@@IAmAFixer Did it. Took him 3 days to notice but I cheated. He was complaining about the dog climbing over the front seat to get in the back and I said why not just open the back door for her and then proceeded to let her out of the truck. He just stood there with his mouth hanging open and asked what the dealership charged. 😂

Worked very well for me... only difference is my 2005 has electric windows. To get the bottom panel off, you must remove the switch and there is a 10mm bolt behind it. Then it lifts right out. The panel screws on mine were 6mm.. the ‘odd’ piece of the four parts is a God send... made that almost the easiest part. Thanks again for the great video... Bob

@@IAmAFixer I did get it done. Your video was most helpful. And, I discovered an easy way to open the doors without removing the panels. If you remove the handle you can get access to both the upper and lower cables. I just pulled on each of those cables and released the latches and opened the doors. Then it was easy to get busy removing the panels.

I’d definitely recommend to just biting the bullet and do both doors, and better yet, even before they break. I just replaced mine since I was already removing the panels to upgrade my speakers, and sure enough, three of the plastic pieces were cracked, and another one disintegrated in my hand when I was inspecting it.

Thanks! I’m not sure what that’s called. I’m afraid you may have a difficult time finding one unless you buy the whole assembly. You could possibly try local junk yards. The door mechanism is pretty common amongst many models of Ford vehicles.

Great video as everyone else has the same issues. Only word of caution is never use your hands as a vise while using a screwdriver or other sharp tools....I've seen people put a screwdriver right thru their hands....it's easier to put it on scrap wood and use a hammer and screwdriver or chisel to widen it. Another way is hacksaw....

Follow up: The parts came in and I have them installed. I had an issue with the cable fitting through the cam lock pieces but like he said a file is all that's needed to make it fit.A note that might help. Remove both of the old plastic pieces from the top cable first and insert the cam lock at the top then the one at the latch. I did both doors even though only one was stuck.
